Seagate External Expanded Storage has my back.

I’ve been looking for a hard drive to store my data from scheduled backups on my PC. The Seagate Expantion 640 GB Portable
External Hard Drive works like magic. I just use the Windows backup program that comes with all Windows operating systems.
It starts to run on schedule automaticly once a week, and when it is done I get a message that says, “Weekly Scheduled Backup
Successfully Completed”. It gives me great satisfaction to know that my Data is safe, even if my computer crashes, gets a
Virus, or gets squashed in an earthquake.I know that with 640 GB I’ll have enough space to store all of my data for years to come.
Portable drive is perfect

Good product

I use it primarily as a backup drive so I use it every few weeks of so. I don’t use it for nightly back ups. So far, it has not given me any troubles and it is plenty of space for me. The uploads and downloads very quickly. I also like it that I only need to use a single USB port as opposed to other ones where I needed two USB ports on my comptuer to support the power consumption.
USB cable lenght is very small

I purchased this disk in the last week. Everything is working well. The only thing i didn’t like is the length of the USB cables. It is of only 2 feet long.

Ideal portable drive
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This drive is fairly ideal if your looking for a portable drive (requiring no additional power) for you laptop/desktop. I am using this as a backup drive for my laptop. Given the large capacity I am able to keep multiple “full backups” of my system.
The drive is small enough to tote around if needed.
What more can you say, its a 750GB portable drive. Great price as one expects for Amazon.
Reliable and Versatile
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’ve had this hard drive for over two months and I have already loaded it with plenty of photos, movies, music, and documents. It is speedy and very reliable. Also, I am using on my Mac and it works perfectly, although I am not using it to back up my computer, just key files and media. Overall, I give this product five stars.
Not recognized by PC, MacOSX, PS3
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Purchased Seagate 750 GB for purpose of backing up PS3. After PS3 failed to recognize memory device, attempted to reformat on Mac and then PC, only to realize neither of those systems could recognize the drive, either. Followed instructions outlined in other reviews and on various internet sites with no success. Light on drive is on, but cannot reformat since the icon is never shown in explorer or system tools! Seagate troubleshooting was non-existent, and phone number in warranty section is automated. I do not recommend purchasing this product.

Got item and started using within 1 week. So far love it. Quick and easy transfer. Have not filled to capacity yet to see if it can take it, but I’m sure it will be able to handle without any problem.
Seagate Expansion 500gb Portable External HD
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
The reviews that I read about this hard drive were all true.It was so simple to set up and very quiet. I never know when its during a back up. I haven’t used it as a portable drive so can’t comment on that but, great for using as a HD to back up my desk top.
Great product for the cost
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
As others have noted, the only problem I have with this is the absurdly short length of the provided USB cable
Excellent price, bought it on an Amazon special
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I have purchased more than a dozen external hard drives in the past 5 years or so, most USB 2.0. This drive arrived promptly, and in good condition. USB cable was also included. Written documentation was almost non-existent.
My only complaint, is that I was frustrated with the installation, which with past drives ran very smoothly. My laptop refused to recognize the drive on boot up, nor could I “see” it on My Computer. I am using Windows XP Professional, SP3, and have my computer configured to receive all important updates from Microsoft automatically.
I went on Seagate’s web site, and used the troubleshooter they offered. It was of help, walking me through, asking me questions and the results. Tried everything they offered, but alas, still the same result.
Finally went to my Window’s Control Panel, and did a hardware install manually. It kept on telling me to insert the disk that came with the hard drive for the proper drivers. Unfortunately no such disk was included, and I could find nothing about a specific driver on Seagate’s web site. As a last resort, I told Window’s I had no driver or disk. Window’s XP Pro then offered to search for a driver, and I clicked yes. It found one, but gave me dire Microsoft warnings that this was a driver that was not certified by Microsoft, and I would be installing it at my own risk. At my wits end, and knowing I backed up my computers regularly, I agreed to the “suspect” unsupported mystery driver. It worked, and no dire consequences!
My backup program still does not see the drive as the “default” drive for my backup, and I have to manually configure the backup program to tell it which drive to back it up to at each session, not a big deal though. One other quirk, when I finally successfully installed the external drive with the generic driver, the drive was given the designation “Drive F:”. I thought that strange, since I have no drive E: on my laptop, and no hidden partitions using that designation either? It was no big deal, just that I was used to Windows using the next available letter of the alphabet when installing a new drive of any sort. I am very happy with the drive aside from installation frustrations, and would recommend it otherwise. Perhaps the name Seagate gave it “expansion Drive” has something to do with my initial installation problems?
