Stunning!

This book is both helpful and utterly gorgeous! I am hoping to go to college for animation/movie design so naturally this book interested me but this goes well beyond my general interest. I can’t stop looking through it! The styles of the artists are so unique, its hard not to get a little jealous. There is more about character design than there is setting and places, but they do have the places (both used and not) in the book at the end. The book is good for reference for characters, lighting, poses, color, shapes and everything else.

Kung Fu Panda: Enter the fantastic art
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I had been coveting after this book for a good year and a half before owning it.

I first saw it at the Barnes and Nobel, its glossy cover promising kickass art, the width suggesting it contained massive amounts of drawings, and the length making sure the art was big enough to really savor.

Upon opening the book, I found all of the above to be true.

The sketches, the finished pieces, the explanations for why the development of certain characters went the way it did- all wonderful!

But the price… It is well worth $45, don’t get me wrong- but I’m a working student, and definitely don’t have an extra $45 in my pocket.

So I waited.

I asked for it for my Birthday, and Christmas- no luck- it was already not in print in stores!

Then I checked on Amazon. $109!?!?!?!??!?

So I waited.

And waited.

And waited.

Then, one fateful day, the price was miraculously reasonable, and I swooped down and retrieved the book.

It is beautiful, and definitely one of my most treasured ‘art of’ books I own to date. I collect animation ‘art of’ books, and this one really outshines the others by a large margin.

Good book, but not for me….

I have The Art of The Incredibles” and it is absolutely fantastic! I like the characters alot in Kung Fu Panda and based on the other reviews figured it would be a great book. It is a good book and very complete but way too many digital paintings and renderings for my taste. The thing that I liked most about the Art of The Incredibles was all of the artwork done in traditional mediums like pencil, marker, gouache, watercolor, even collage. I am not a fan of digital artwork and this book is about 98% digital.

I am oldschool though, and most people buying this book will be excited that most of it is digital…

It’s AWWWWWWWESOME!

Picture books as beautiful as this one are not often published. If you are an animation artist, a cartoonist, an illustrator, or a fan of graphic arts, you’ll enjoy its pages more than the movie itself. If you didn’t like the movie, have your head examined!

Chapters are loaded with full-page color artwork and make for an exceptional acquisition for any film or arts collection

The Art of Kung Fu Panda is a fine companion book to the film and an excellent acquisition for any serious animation arts collection. It explores the DreamWorks Studio results, examining the making of the film and providing over 300 pieces of visual development artwork as well as behind-the-scenes stories and insights from the filmmakers themselves. From storyboarding and color theory to special effects, chapters are loaded with full-page color artwork and make for an exceptional acquisition for any film or arts collection.

Fellow readers, go with all the above 5 star comments of PRAISE! This “Art of” book has met and exceeded all my requirements to be a fantastic and worthy book. Art! Color! Foldouts! Character design and story development galore. I have to go back and watch the film now when it comes out on DVD. I never spotted that the markings on the character “Viper” were Chinese poetry!! ! Kudos to Dreamworks for this film AND this absolutely wonderful book. It will hold an honored place on my shelf along with my other “Art Of” film books. *unlike the shameful and empty *Art of Madagascar 2″ which was the first book I ever returned to Amazon. :( *

BUY IT! BUY IT! BUY IT! BUY IT! BUY IT! BUY IT! BUY IT! BUY IT! BUY IT!

Awesomeness

only seeing bits and pieces of it I had been wanting it for awhile and for the longest time it was out of stock everywhere, and I mean EVERYWHERE.

Finally they reprinted it and it was worth every penny, especially though who have an interest in concept art and development.

Seeing whats it you kinda wish they took the different plot ideas instead. You can only hope now they use that in the second movie.

A Wonderful book filled of concept and graphic design
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is one of the awesome books i have found in the last years, it not only talk about the movie but about all the process of design and the concepts in the creation of the atmosphere and characters of the movie. It really worth the price. The quality of the prints and the paper are great too. i recommended it widely for those who want to know about the concepts and graphic inspirations and character expressions.

There will be a reprint, a cheaper price, i waited 3 months, but i have it now. Be patient.

For sure, the bestest artbook ever. The 1st place were Tarzan’s Artbook from disney… now, it’s “The Art of Kung Fu Panda” THE best one.

an artbook for professionals

The Art of Kung Fu Panda

As a professional of the animation I really appreciated this artbook especially because the approach to the description of a feature film was conceived in order to explain more than to amaze. So they hadn’t nothing to hide indeed or nothing to fear in showing the “building” process of this really 3d gorgeous picture.

Simply Beautiful
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I don’t buy too many Art Books simply because so many of them are filled with too much writing. This one however, is a HAVE TO HAVE. Its 192 pages of “AWESOMENESS!!” Pages of character designs, a section dedicated to each character, with size relation charts, early character designs and sketches, background designs, full page layout concepts, screen shots, and rough animation. This is a unique book, it tells a story in its self of the journey this movie went on behind the scenes. It was a pleasant surprise. I still haven’t read it yet, but I’ve looked through it dozens of times. You never really know just what to expect from an art book as they’re all different. This one will be a treasure in my collection and one that will make for many inspirations for my own projects in the future.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I am.
