AT&T Service Options
This AT&T phone can handle high-speed data connectivity via AT&T’s 3G mobile broadband data network, which is available in most major metropolitan areas. The AT&T 3G network uses the dual-band UMTS 850/1900 MHz network, and this phone is also compatible with 2100 MHz 3G networks (found in international territories). The AT&T 3G network provides download speeds ranging from 700 Kbps to 1.7 Mbps, and upload speeds ranging from 500 Kbps to 1.2 Mbps. This makes it possible to enjoy a variety of feature-rich wireless multimedia services, and it gives you the advantage of offering simultaneous voice and data services. (For use outside the United States, an AT&T international data plan is recommended.)
In areas where the 3G network is not available, you’ll continue to receive service on the AT&T EDGE network, which offers availability in more than 13,000 US cities and along some 40,000 miles of major highways. Providing average data speeds between 75-135Kbps, it’s fast enough to support a wide range of advanced data services, including video and music clips, full picture and video messaging, high-speed color Internet access, and email on the go. You’ll also enjoy quad-band GSM connectivity, which allows you to make calls in more than 190 countries and access data applications in the more than 135 countries where AT&T offers international data roaming.
With 3G connectivity, you’ll be able to access AT&T’s Video Share service, which enables you to send a live, one-way video stream to another compatible phone during a standard voice call. The service also allows you to switch the direction of the video stream during the same phone call. (Customers must be in an area served by the company’s 3G network and have a Video Share-enabled phone.) A majority of users in the architecture, engineering and construction industries rated the ability to share live video through Video Share highly, according to research commissioned by AT&T. Video Share lets you see progress on a job site or review the day’s work without having to drive from an office or other site to do so.
You can take advantage of the AT&T Navigator GPS software and service, a full-featured premium navigation application that includes audible turn-by-turn directions, real-time traffic updates and re-routing options, and 3D moving maps (additional charges applicable). AT&T Navigator offers several other features to make your commute more enjoyable and reliable, including mobile access to Yellowpages.com. Additionally, AT&T Navigator is the only mobile phone-based GPS service that provides integrated speech recognition for address entry and points of interest search.
With 3G connectivity, you’ll be able to access AT&T’s Cellular Video (CV) service and the Internet while on the go. Cellular Video features content from CNN, The Weather Channel, iFilm, Comedy Central and exclusive premium content from HBO and much more. And you get access to AT&T Mobile Music, which enables you to buy tracks while on the, access the Napster and eMusic subscription music services, stream music video, discover what’s playing with Music ID song-recognition software, and find out what’s hot with The Buzz music news portal. (A MEdia Max subscription bundle is recommended for accessing AT&T’s Internet, video, and music services.)
The phone has a built-in web browser for MEdia Net downloads and mobile web browsing. AT&T’s MEdia Net service enables you to receive and send emails, read news headlines, get weather updates, download games and ringtones, and more.
The integrated accelerometer lets you shuffle music by shaking and play games by tilting the phone. |

This Walkman phone offers a full-function digital audio player that’s compatible with MP3 and AAC files, and it includes Sony Ericsson’s innovative shake to shuffle feature. Playback settings also include an equalizer, playlists, stereo widening, and shuffle and loop modes. This Walkman phone features MegaBass enhancement for added depth of sound, a flight mode that lets you keep listening to tunes with the phone’s network connectivity turned off, and the PlayNow feature that enables you to download new music tones directly to the phone.
Sony Ericsson’s SensMe technology is used to incorporate mood analysis into the track details, which allows you to create playlists that suit your mood. Select SensMe in the downloadable Sony Ericsson Media Manager software, and it will mood-analyze all MP3 files on the computer. You can connect your laptop (either via Bluetooth or wired USB) and enjoy dial-up networking–surf the Internet, send email, and access files from a server.
The built-in 3.2 megapixel camera captures stills and video–and playback of video or still pictures is only limited to the memory card size (or capped at 20 seconds for sending via MMS). You can choose from four resolution sizes and two quality settings for still photos, and it also features white balance and brightness adjustments, digital zoom (up to 3.2x), night mode, panorama, and multi-shot mode. It provides support for PictBridge technology so you can print your photos without the need of a PC (either using USB or Bluetooth). Video clips can be shot at up to QVGA resolution (320 x 240 pixels) at 30 frames per second (fps).
The phone also ships with a built-in email client with support for POP3 and IMAP4 protocols, while the included Access NetFront Web Browser allows you to surf full HTML web sites. It also supports RSS feeds, allowing you to use your phone to view up-to-the-minute news and other content from selected Web sites and blogs. Just subscribe to the feed and let it come to you. T9 text entry, a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit–a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.

Incredible Phone!

Incredible Phone!
I’ve owned several Motorola phones in the past and was hesitant to switch to a Sony Ericsson. Since I was going to be stuck with `this’ phone for the next 2-years, I spent a good amount of time researching several phones (LG, Motorola, SE, Iphone, and Samsung) and found this one was prefect. CNET gives it a very high rating!! (BTW-I would have loved to get the IPhone but I didn’t want to pay the extra monthly service charges the phone requires and as a `phone’ it is quite large to carry around.)
I wanted a Slide Phone but not one that was too bulky & thick and also one that had a key-pad that would (1) last and (2) had numbers that were not too small. Surprisingly CNET reviewed several phones that did not meet those simple criteria.
While I waited for my phone to be delivered, I saw the previous reviews. I became very concerned about the choice I had made. Well, I have had this phone for 2 weeks and have not seen any of the problems the other reviewers listed. I bought a 4G M2 card and have loaded a good amount of music and images. The great thing is, the computer software is free on SE’s site, where Motorola made you pay for theirs.
So, to say the least, I love this phone. I LOVE the walkman ‘SensMe’ feature, the fact you can shake the phone to shuffle or go to the next song, and you can lift or lower the phone to change the volume… Not to mention, for the size you get a great camera and AAC/MP3 player all in one! It’s prefect! Also, if I want to add web-access, I can add it later but I am not committed to an additional monthly service plan like I would have been with the I-Phone. Honestly, the list of what I love goes on.
Also, I did send SE an e-mail suggesting they read the reviews on Amazon’s site. SE also provides software upgrades for their phones so if there is an issue, hopefully they would fix it. I have received an e-mail back informing me they have not had those issues reported as of yet but would look into them.
I HIGHLY recommend this phone! And it easily deserves the 5-stars I have given it!!!
Love it!

Best phone I have owned, has more features than I need. They must have fixed the problems the others are complaining about with the memory card because my phone only did this once and that was because the memory card was not properly lock in. Takes great pictures and is a very attractive phone. Wish it had more ring tones or at least better ones to choose from. You would think they would include the ear buds like the last Sony (810) I got. The phone was free so can’t complain to much. Amazon is the best place to buy this phone, no problems what so ever.

This phone works better, is better looking, and is easier to use than I expected or even could have imagined. I have never been any happier with a purchase than I am with this one. The images on the screen are unbelievably sharp, the sound is great, the keys are easy to use.
The price ($.01 with free shipping) wasn’t hard to take, either.
Sony W760a – keypad backlight is serious defect
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I use iPhone, which offers the greatest overall mobile device experience (other than the AT&T voice network which is substandard compared to Verizon). I got this Sony Ericsson W760a for my wife (she didn’t want iPhone). It looks very nice. However, there is a serious design defect in the keypad backlight. The buttons of 6, 9, # are barely visible, and the letters on them (if you need to text) are invisible. If you just dial, may be you can live with this defect, but if you need to text, it is dysfunctional.
Not perfect, but a very good non-smart phone.

I bought this phone to replace a Moto Slver S7. The reception and voice quality on this phone is generally superior and the screen is very nice. The sliding parts feel sturdy and I doubt they will break any time soon. This phone is also surprisingly light weight given how sturdy it feels.
The phone does have two issues which are big negatives for me. The battery life is generally short. Perhaps I expect too much since the Slvr had such fantastic battery life, but charging my phone every 2-3 days or so is irritating. From what I gather this battery life is about as good as other phones that are available now, but it is still disappointing. The second issue is that the bluetooth is bothersome to turn off manually. I only use bluetooth when I’m in my car and this phone either leaves it on all the time or off all the time. In order to turn it on and off you must flip through 5 menus. (You can link a shortcut to the handsfree menu, but not to the bluetooth menu.)
=====
EDIT: The problem that I describe above does not actually exist. I decided to investigate this issue a few days after I wrote the review and it turns out that you can set a button to automatically turn the BT on and off. No menus or any of that mess. It’s actually very convenient! I would add a star to this review if it were allowed.
======
Another odd thing is that they do not package an ear-bud or computer connection cable or memory card with the phone. I suppose that since I paid $.01 for the phone I cannot hold that against them.
Great Phone ! Great Price !

I received this phone from Amazon last week. And I am still going over all the cool functions. I owned a S.E. W580 before this one. So, i was already familiar with the walkman features. But, I was pleasantly surprised by this phones improvement (over the W580) in audio quality. I thought i would never say that, after being so satisfied with the W580. But, I can hear music parts of songs, on this phone, I have never heard before:-) And some of the songs were over 30 years old. And listened to MANY MANY times before. On Very good stereo equip. So, I thought I heard everything in these songs before. *BUT*! The output audio level is lower than the output audio level of the W580. The MEGABASS EQ is almost unnoticeable, compared with that of the LOUD W580. But, the quality of music on the W760, makes up for the slight deficiences in sonic output. The voice quaility on phone calls, is also very good. The 3G speed for internet and video access is FAST and CLEAR ! The SENSME feature is interesting. But cannot be used on PREVIOUSLY downloaded music:-( It could only be added, WHILE DOWNLOADING NEW MUSIC. So, the 900 plus songs I downloaded with my W580, onto a 4GB M2 memory card, does not have SENSME:-( I will have to DOWNLOAD ALL MY MUSIC AGAIN (From Media Manager @S.E.) To get the SENSME feature added to those songs. (I sill might do it. But. A few of the 130 CD’s at a time.) I have the Red one. And ordered the Black rubberized plastic case. I like the contrast in those colors:-) I could go on and on about this phone. But, I will end it here, for now:-)
2 thumbs up to Amazon ! For offering this GREAT PHONE, as an upgrade with my AT&T service provider:-) And the price was right too ! (1 cent) lol
I was going to upgrade to this phone anyway ! And would have paid the AT&T or S.E. price to get it:-) Its that good a phone !

i am on my 2nd w760a now. my replacement phone has the same problems as the previous one. lockups, shutdowns, problems with bluetooth (on multiple bluetooth devices). i got this phone because i was tired of carrying around a bulky “smart” phone…but this is ridiculous. I had a motorola razr that lasted for about 5 years with never any single issue what so ever. additionally, all the extra accessories you have to buy on this thing are ridiculous. i can honestly say i will never again purchase another sony phone, or probably any other product. oh, and all these problems happen with the ATT software, or debranded. if you have this phone and don’t have any problems, at this point i would recommend you buy a lotto ticket.
One HUGE Negative!!

The only way you can plug in your ear buds is buy a bulky accessory that plugs into where you plug it in to charge it, then it won’t fit into any carrying case. So if you want to listen to the walkman on earbuds you have to carry the phone around in your hand every where you go. I always do my homework before I buy a product. This time I didn’t. Great reminder to me – ALWAYS DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE YOU BUY. That word “Walkman” cast a magic spell over me that got me to ‘assume’ you could of course plug your ear buds into it. Fooled me Sony Ericsson. Thanks a lot. NOT.
Sony Ericsson w760a: Just hope you luck out!
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I wasn’t too interested in this phone to begin with, but after trying many others, and seeing Amazon’s unbeatable price, I went for it. What I got was a mixed bag…
DISCLAIMER: Most of my reviews are complaints and gripes –stuff you won’t hear from the manufacturer or dealer– so don’t take me as a pessimist. Anyone can tell you how GREAT it is. Take me as a realist, someone who’s setting your expectations to a reasonable degree.
The phone software is a tad sluggish. Not horrible, but noticible. That Shazam (MusicID) software is AMAZING, but now I get the blank white screen whenever I try to use it. It shouldn’t happen to you, but reading another review here, I noticed it happens on other programs on this phoen model as well.
Onward to things you should be able to change but cannot– When you push any of the buttons, you can choose a sound– a click, a tone, or silence. I like the click, but you CAN’T change the volume of it! You could be texting away in a car or something, and boy is it annoying! Same thing with the BG lighting timer for the screen and keyboard– all default set at about 10-15 seconds. Also, you’re stuck with nearly ALL the text as it is. No sizing options. Now why weren’t any of these customisable? Not a major gripe here, but surprising.
I’m sure by the time people read this, I’d have figured it out. But you can minimize many of the programs and have them run in the background. That’s great, but I have no idea how to MAXIMIZE them back to usable mode!! The user’s manual is difficult to reference, so count that out. A feature that should be helpful, yet came off as perplexing…
The clock has 2 modes, small and large. Seeing the analog clock on any of the Themes is difficult, because the BG is animated, and doesn’t project it very well. Something you have to see to understand. Something else that bugs me– on the main screen, it lists your alarms set. Time and date. Do I need to see that?? It’d have been better if you just put an alarm bell icon at the top of the screen instead! Also, if you register Yahoo or another mail service provider, it won’t tell you when a new mail comes in like me LG would. Slightly inconvenient, but maybe I’m a bit spoiled there. It may just be me, bu the battery time seems short too.
Finally, the aesthetic gripes. The volume rocker is on the right side of the phone, and is THIN! Like…thinner than a toothpick…and higher up than my previous phone. I’ll get used to it eventually, but worth noting. You’ll also notice that (unless I was just unlucky) most of the keys light up just fine. But the 3, 6, 9, and # barely light up, and the * key is really bright, and actually shines partly out of the frame! Like I said, maybe this is just my phone.
Okay, now that the negatives are done with, lets get to the good stuff. Colors are nice and bright, the camera quality is decent (better than my last LG) at 3.2MPs. Many of the menus and some of the keys are customizable. Definetely a plus. Texting is fairly easy, and the T9 software is easily navigatable. Keys are fairly large as well, and I didn’t make many mistakes when typing a message. I really like the options available for volume, and it plays MIDIs real well (haven’t gotten to MP3s yet since my memory card still hasn’t arrived). Speakers are nice and loud, and offer a better stereo option (though volume is sacrificed). As stated in another review, it requires Sony Ericsson’s own adapter/headset to listen to music. No standard jack. Sound quality was so-so on some calls, and good for others. Speakerphone, also, is good and loud, but a bit more staticy, though, what phone isn’t?
Overall, it’s not a bad phone, but it’s got room for improvements. If you can deal with the above, and are loking for a nice non-touch screen MP3 player, it may sound like I hate it, but I don’t. This is a good phone. Just hope you get one that’s not buggy or has stray LED light leaking out from the * key!
Nice phone, bad software, bad backlight on the keypad
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
the w760a rocks, it has nice red color, too bad the camera doesn’t have focus; this makes the picture quality lose to another 2.0 MP camera with focus, for example w810
the features and the screen is nice… i like most of this phone features except:
1. the att software disabled many of the phone ability, such as ability to switch from 3G to GSM (3G EATs the battery really quick)
2 the SE shortcut button is replaced by the att button. In addition, the bad thing is sometimes u press the button while sliding the phone up. (u have to pay for the data usage! its not expensive though).
3. the ring tones cant use mp3 with size bigger than specific size and length, i don’t remember exactly what the number is. its around 300 KB if im not wrong.
4. the keypad has defect on the backlight, i already check the att stores’ phone and its the same. There is almost no light on keypad 9 and #, keypad 6 has half backlight.
the feeling when u press 123 with 456 and 789 and *0# are all different… 123 and *0# are similar
Also, the att is getting cheaper and cheaper everyday… they only give u the phone, a battery, a manual, and a charger! no memory card, no headset, usb cable, software cd, etc..
Yes, it has some bugs, but it’s still a great phone!

I’ve owned this phone since April and I’ve become very accustomed to it and finally feel I’ve had enough experience with it to write a thorough review.
I love that it ISN’T a smartphone! It’s becoming very difficult to avoid those clunky things and I have no interest in heavy-duty texting, mobile internet, etc. I wish more companies would make phones like this one.
I’ll start with my gripes:
This phone is very lightweight. Part of the reason it is so lightweight is the rather flimsy plastic. The back cover could easily break, just warning you. I bought one of those rubber-type snap cases here on Amazon to snap around the phone and that has made the phone feel more substantial in my hand and more comfortable to use. Also, will make the back cover less likely to break.
One more downer is that the phone is buggy. It has some little glitches from time to time (haven’t had one in a couple months) that require me to plug it into the charger, sort of to snap it out of its fit. haha. It works, so why am I complaining?
Another thing is that you really cannot use this phone while it is charging because the heat generated makes the phone so hot that I can barely hold it in my hand. Not kidding.
Another problem is that a lot of the components: earbuds, data cable – have to be purchased separately. Come on now, Sony. You should include those. On the plus side, they are available here on Amazon for very little money.
Now that I’ve gone through my complaints, it’s time to show some love. I love the color. It’s a deep, sexy red. I love the size of this phone. It’s big enough to hold, but not clunky. I love the slide feature. Again, this helps with minimizing space. I love the big screen, it’s easy to see and very bright. The camera is great on this phone. Being over 3 MP, it’s one of the better cameras you will find on a phone. You can transfer these to your computer and the resolution is good enough for prints. I like how easy it is to expand the memory and you can get the memory cards cheap here on Amazon. Never again would you need a separate digital camera to lug around. I love the Walkman feature and how you can use your own songs as your ringtones. Never again have to pay for ringtones!
When I bought this phone, I saw nothing about signal quality and figured that must mean it is okay or people would be complaining about. Well, the signal quality is good, but you will find it even better when you use the earbuds. Not sure why this is, but I get phenomenal reception (an extra bar or even TWO) with the earbuds.
After reading all this, you probably wonder why I would give this phone 3 stars with all the complaints, well, I really like the phone in spite of its issues. It has a lot of great features and the things that are great about it are really wonderful. I do not regret purchasing this phone because I do love it, but wish Sony would take the initiative to make it as good as it could be, so I could give it a better rating.
Just don’t like Sliders
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I’ve owned a Motorola Razr for years and like the large keypad for ease of dialing. The Voice dial is exceptional and the keys are responsive, which takes me to why I had to sell the Sony W760a. The voice dial set up is terrible. Took me a long time to activate 3 entries and it is entry specific. The Razr allows you to voice dial ANY entry on your Sim card after you activate the feature. Also, the Sony has an annnoying delay after entry of numbers and data. The slider feature is attractive but several times when I thought the keys were locked, I was actvating the browser! It showed on my bill. So, I’m back to my Razr and other flip phones.
Speaker Sound poor not impressed at all.
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
sony W760 is not that great. For every feature of the phone you need special data package from ATT which is a rip off. GPS doesn’t work without data service from ATT for example.
Keys are not a good feel – plastic feeling and its hard to realize you are entering any numbers. speaker phone is crappy or poor. cluttered menu – cant hide useless ATT icons cluttering the phone.
great phone, missing basic accessories
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I switched from Verizon to ATT for roll-over minutes and free calls to my ATT landline. I like this phone b/c of the 3mp camera (although they could easily put 5 mp in a phone by now). I have a newborn and it’s nice to always have a decent camera handy.
I also have a macbook, and with the bluetooth connection, transferring files is super easy. The reception is good, and the bluetooth also works well with my car (2006 G35 sedan), although, not as well as my older razr did.
The speakers on the phone are really good for such a small device. I put baby songs (the baby Coldplay and Baby U2 ensembles are worth buying) on it and put it in my baby’s stroller for walks.
The FM radio is a nice touch, but the fact that you have to buy the headphones to use it is a major blunder by SE. They should include that with the phone, or better yet, put the antenna in the phone. I got the headphones for $8 online. I also bought a car charge and extra wall charger (I like to keep one at work and one at home) for $6 together, and a 4GB memory card for around $20. The proprietary memory stick is quite a bit more expensive than standard SDmirco cards, but still cheaper than they used to be.
So for 1 cent, plus about $40 in accessories, it’s still a good deal.
Can anyone explain why the same phone costs $129 at ATT stores? I still haven’t figured out the catch with buying on Amazon? Which is a good thing.
Nice phone but definitely not great!
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I recently upgraded from my old w810i to w760a. Found that the phone is pretty much same as w810 w/o any much upgrades…Definitely don’t use GPS coz don’t have data plan. So that upgrade doesn’t matter me.
Goods:
1. Camera is better as always was
2. 3G capability
3. Navigator…those who don’t have GPS but have data plan (i wouldn’t like to have data plan unless i have iPhone)
4. better resolution
Bads:
1. Network – I used to get full signal with my old w810 at my home. Now with new 760 i no longer get full network. Also i have observed overall network strength has decreased at number of places. At places, some 10$ cheap nokia phone gives full network whereas my w760a doesn’t…Haven’t seen any noticeable change in dropped call but donno whether people have noticed it while reaching me…
2. Battery life – Compared to 810 battery life is half…My 810 used to last for 3/4 days for sure w/o much talking…But with same amount of talking my 760 doesn’t even last 2 days…Also takes little longer to charge the full batter as compared to 810.
3. Memory card – I had sony’s proprietary pro duo 2g card for 810. now its useless since they have changed the card format…its awful and i hate it…
