Melding the power of Windows Mobile 6 with an innovative touchscreen navigation interface, Verizon’s XV6900 is a deceptively small and stylish mobile phone that brings together email and other essential business applications. The XV6900′s intuitive home screen provides one-touch access to e-mail, text messages, calendar appointments and contacts, as well as current weather conditions and forecasts for hundreds of cities around the world. Nicely compact at just 0.6 inches thin and 4 ounces, the HTC Touch also features a 2.0-megapixel camera/camcorder, fast Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR with stereo music streaming profile, and MicroSD expansion (up to 8 GB).

Leveraging the broad functionality of Windows Mobile 6 Professional (for touchscreens), the XV6900 includes Outlook Mobile, Office Mobile and the capabilities to run thousands of third-party applications. It also allows you to surf the web with Internet Explorer, send and receive emails, chat on Messenger, and send files to your own web space through Windows Live. It operates on Verizon’s North American CDMA voice network as well as on Verizon’s speedy EV-DO data network, which enables you to quickly access data applications and connect directly to your office’s network.

The stylish white Verizon XV6900 brings together email and other essential business applications with Verizon’s speedy EV-DO network.

Verizon Service
With support for the EV-DO high-speed data standard, you’ll enjoy fast access to the Internet and Verizon’s multimedia services (additional charges applicable), with average download speeds ranging from 400 to 700 Kbps and peak rates up to 2 Mbps. (Learn more about where EV-DO coverage is offered.)

With BroadbandAccess Connect (subscription required), you can use your smartphone as a modem for your notebook when you connect the two using a USB cable–or open a Bluetooth connection–enabling you to access the Internet or your company intranet. The tethered modem capability is ideal when you’re traveling and need to use your notebook to check email, access corporate networks, or download large files like presentations and reports. And with BroadbandAccess Connect, you won’t have to buy an extra PC Card or other devices.

Verizon’s Wireless Sync always-on email service (subscription required), you can stay connected and get the job done while away from the office–without a delay and in a secure environment. Email is delivered to your device in real time across the National Enhanced Services Rate & Coverage Area, and you get the ability to forward large attachments via email as well as access both your personal and corporate emails on one device. Wireless Sync offers strong security with AES encryption (Advanced Encryption Standard) technology so that unauthorized parties cannot access or alter application data transmitted over wireless networks.

Phone Features
With a nearly 3-inch display, the Verizon XV6900′s navigation is powered by TouchFLO technology–new underlying touch screen technology developed by HTC–which provides smooth navigation through menus with a finger swipe. Simply sweep your finger up the display to launch an animated, three-dimensional interface comprising three screens: Contacts, Media and Applications. In addition, the innovative TouchFLO cube brings a 3D cube interface allowing quick access to entertainment, communication tools and a dial-by-picture photo caller ID screen. It is intelligent enough to distinguish between finger and input via the included stylus and then respond accordingly. The home screen provides one-touch access to emails, text messages, calendar appointments and contacts, as well as current weather conditions and forecasts for hundreds of cities around the world. Since you’ll be accessing most functions via the touchscreen, it includes only buttons for a cursor pad, send and end, camera, and volume rocker.

In addition to real-time synchronization with Microsoft Exchange via Windows Mobile’s Direct Push Technology, the XV6900 also supports instant messaging capabilities for AIM, Yahoo, and Windows Live. The XV6900 also enables sending of SMS and MMS messages, and it includes XT9 predictive text entry (the new version of the T9), with such features as a word prediction list and spelling correction that spots transposed letters and missed keys, as well as instant integration into all applications on the device. The phone’s contact list is limited only by available memory, and you can store up to 12 numbers per entry as well as home/work addresses, email, IM name, birthday, and more.

You can load up your MP3 files on optional MicroSD cards (up to 8 GB in size) via a USB connection from your PC. The integrated Windows Media Player Mobile allows you to play your favorite music, videos and more while you’re on the go, and it synchs music seamlessly with Windows Media Player on a Windows-based computer.

This phone provides Bluetooth version 2.0 + EDR (enhanced data rate) wireless connectivity, and includes profiles for communication headset, handsfree car kits, object push, file transfer, audio/video remote control, and basic printing. With the A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music to a pair of compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones. You can connect your laptop (either via Bluetooth or wired USB) and enjoy dial-up networking–surf the Internet, send email, and access files from a server. Send contacts, calendar events, and pictures/videos/voice memos wirelessly.

The 2.0-megapixel camera on the back of the XV6900 has a 5x digital zoom and includes a choice of five resolutions and four quality settings. Other imaging features include white balance controls, night mode, image effects, and self-timer. You can also capture video clips in either MPEG4 or H.263 format, and record video for as long as you have available memory. Other features include:

  • Voice activated dialing and voice memo recorder
  • Virtual, all–touch QWERTY keyboard with additional input options
  • Hearing Aid Compatibility = M3
  • TTY compatible
  • Memory: 128 MB RAM/256 MB ROM
  • ActiveSync (v4.5) and Windows Mobile Device Center
  • Speakerphone
  • Security locking features

Vital Statistics
The Verizon XV6900 weighs 4 ounces and measures 4 x 2.4 x 0.6 inches. Its 1100 mAh lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 3.5 hours of talk time, and up to 250 hours of standby time with the included standard battery (an optionally available extended 1880 mAh battery provides up to 6 hours of talk time and up to 427 hours of standby time). It runs on the 850/1900 CDMA frequencies and is compatible with the EV-DO data network.

Powered by Windows Mobile 6

Windows Mobile 6 adds power to your mobile office with up-to-date e-mail delivery and automatic synchronization of Outlook calendars.

Edit Word documents and Excel spreadsheets on your phone, just as you would on your desktop/laptop PC.

Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 6 updates the Windows Mobile 5 platform with a number of handy features that make searching through email, editing Microsoft Office documents, and staying on top of your most important communications even easier. Emails can now be viewed in their original rich HTML format and now offer the ability to visit embedded links. It also includes Windows Live for Windows Mobile, which provides a full set of Windows Live services, such as the Windows Live Messenger IM application, which now enables you to chat with more than one person at one time or send a file.

With Windows Mobile 6, your phone will finally be able to emulate the power and features of your PC’s Microsoft Office suite. You’ll be able to neatly view, navigate and edit Word documents and Excel spreadsheets in their original formatting–without affecting tables, images or text–as well as view PowerPoint presentations.

  • Microsoft Office Word Mobile features include spell-check, Find and Replace commands, bulleted lists, text formatting, and support for tables for the first time.
  • With Excel Mobile, you’re not just confined to editing charts: with the new Chart Wizard you can create charts quickly and easily.
  • PowerPoint Mobile allows you to view the full presentation, rehearse timings, check the order and any live links you may have in your presentation. You can then email comments back to the team or communicate via MSN Messenger for an immediate response.
  • After creating or editing a Word document or Excel spreadsheet, you can synchronize it with your PC and it will automatically be converted to the PC version.

All Windows Mobile 6 powered devices include Direct Push Technology for up-to-date e-mail delivery and automatic synchronization of Outlook calendars, tasks and contacts through Microsoft Exchange Server. It also offers a set of important device security and management features that include the capability to remotely wipe all data from a device should it be lost or stolen, helping ensure that confidential information remains that way. more info

Not a good buy
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I have had this phone for over a year and have had problems with it since I got it. Unfortunately, it is a work phone, so I am stuck with it until I can get an upgrade in 6 months. The first problem is that you can not talk on the phone without opening several other programs because the screen does not lock when on a phone call. In order to talk and not accidently hang up on someone or open another program, you have to push the top button in order to turn the screen off. Second, my caller ID has not been working from the get go. It will cut off the person’s name and half of the phone number when it shows up on the screen. Sometimes it works, but I would say 85% of the time, the caller ID is cut off. And last, the screen is slowing starting to stop working. In the top corners, the screen does not work any longer. This is a problem considering you have to tap the “x” at the top right corner in order to close a program. I have to press extremely hard on the screen for it to work in the corners. It has slowly gotten worse over the last couple of months.

The camera on the phone is pretty good, but there is not flash. It’s fairly fast compared to my Treo I had before….but those are the only positives about the phone.

I would not buy this phone. It is not worth the money….but I actually think its much cheaper now than when it first came out.

Excellent Device. The iPhone for adults
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
THis phone does most of what the iPhone does but it is smaller, has better sound quality on calls and there is no need to dump Verizon and go to the slow AT&T network. I have had this phone for a week and I love it. Web browsing is fast, call quality is excellent and you can change out the battery in 30 seconds. The camera and video quality are quite good.

If you like the iPhone but want to stay with Verizon, you want to be able to change out the battery for a spare charges one and you want fast data transfer speed, go look at this phone. It is about time Verizon offered something this cool.

this phone does what I need it to do. Windows mobile 6 can be upgraded to 6.1. No problems with slow speeds. I haven’t hit any buttons with my cheek while i was calling anyone either. It looks very nice also. The camera and video are nice quality and I love the preloaded games of solitaire and etc. No regrets.

I love this phone, Great Service, If you use outlook and like a PDA you will like this phone. All your contacts in outlook load easy to the phone. The Camera is good but no flash which is fine for most times you would use a phone camera anyway. All in all this is a great phone/PDA snd I would bay another.

windows mobile 6 limits phones potential
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I’ve had my handset for one week, previously i tried the Samsung saga which i found disappointing due to a small screen and low pixel count. The 6900 is much better than the saga for web access and viewing/editing office documents. I also find the 6900 more responsive than the saga but not nearly as quick as I-phone.

I like the small size and Verizons 3G network speed, these were some of my criteria for buying a smartphone. This was purchased for my job where i need access to email and internet everywhere i go, it meets these qualifications easily. Since I plan to carry the phone with me i wanted a few feature to make my life better such as: steaming audio and video. It does a great job with streaming audio if attached to a windows stream, forget about non windows streams. streaming video capabilities are limited to windows streams only, no flash support which means no youtube or online NBC shows.

I contacted Verizon regarding flash, they replied they didn’t support 3rd party software, wouldn’t offer anything more. I found an upgrade to windows mobile 6.1 but no improvements. Adobe states no flash support after W.M. 5 but they are working with MS.

I signed a one year agreement, at the end of the year i plan to look at linux based handsets with any 3G provider.

No good

I have had this phone for two months. It sucks but I cant compare it to other touch phones because I have never had one before. You cannot be on it without opening up at least two programs or windows while talking on it because your ear hits all the buttons. The camera button is right where a typical right handed person would put their hands to talk on the phone, so you constantly are tunring on the camera and taking pictures of your hands. Hands down the most frustrating piece of electonics Ive ever owned.
