Panasonic Blu-Ray Player
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
We received the Panasonic DMP-BD50K very quickly after our order through Amazon. The player has worked flawlessly and we have enjoyed playing both blu-ray disks and regular disks. Great equipment. Updates the software via the internet connection we provided.

very nice player
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This is my first Blu-Ray player as I’ve been waiting for one like this to come along and it does it all. seems well built, the menu is easy to follow, tons of user setting and load times are good. my only complaint is it ships with a set of composite cables. Huh? who would need these? Composite cannot output HD. This is why i didn’t give it five stars.

SD DVD up conversion is very good to (i still use my XA2 for this job though)

I waited until all format BS subsided and for the new generation blu-rays to be released. The difference between blu-ray and regular dvds is not as big as the difference between HD and cable, but on this player there is a noticable improvement in the picture quality. One great surprise was the sound improvement. The sound quality will really blow you away!(I recommend the Matrix scene where Morpheus is rescued.)

The BD-50 is easy to set-up. I don’t think I will utilize all the BD-Live capabilities, but downloading new firmware is a nice feature. Also, photographers will enjoy the HCSD slot. If you don’t throw away all your regular dvds, I think the upconversion does make them look a little better. I know the BD-50 is more expensive, but you will be happy with the purchase!

DMP- BD50, great player, once set up
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’ve had this player for about 2 weeks, now. It’s not for the faint-hearted to set up! Now that I have confirmed that all functions work, including BD-LIVE, I am thoroughly happy with it. Great picture, great sound, and BD-LIVE. But, because of all the difficulty I had setting it up, I would have liked to have given it a 4.5 instead of a 5. Here are the problems I faced. Perhaps it will save someone else some grief. It took forever for me to connect this to my Onkyo SR-604 A/V receiver I connected it via the 5.1 analog connections because my receiver doesn’t decode the HD audio. It took forever to get sound, until I finally read that the “multichannel” button on the A/V receiver needed to be pressed – that was not the fault of the Blu Ray player, of course. Then, today, I couldn’t get BD-LIVE to connect – I was using the Iron Man disc. I kept getting the message, “No internet connection,” even though there was an Internet connection – in fact, when I established the Internet connection, the first thing it did was offer to download the latest firmware. I did that and installed it successfully. And, the setup allows you to test the Internet connection which verified that I DID have a working connection to the Internet. This was the only problem that required a call to Panasonic. A very knowledgable and courteous support person helped me and asked if I had an SD card inserted into the player – I did not, and I didn’t see anything in the instructions that told me that was necessary. I tried that and, voila, the BD-LIVE worked. However, it’s still upsetting that the error message was, “No connection to the Internet,” rather than, “Please insert an SD card.” And, speaking of network connections, I had to buy a power line network bridge to connect the player to the Internet, for about $50. My DISH PVR has that home networking bridge built into the unit – it would have been nice, if the Blu Ray player had that also, or if it had a wireless connection. Lastly, before I had the Internet connection, I downloaded the firware upgrade from the Panasonic web site. I created 6 different install CDs from two computers and the player would not recognize any of them. Having all that behind me, this is a great Blu Ray player – I’d recommend it, highly.

Outstanding Player

I have had this for about 6 months and it is excellent. Panasonic provides excellent support via frequent firmware updates. The picture quality and sound quality are both excellent.

I have used the blu ray player extensively since receiving the player-about a month. The player starts up relatively fast. The main controls are convenient. The video is outstanding. I was able to display pictures on my large screen lcd television with great results using the sd card reader included in the player. My delivery was done in a timely manner and I was continuously informed of the progress of my order.

Works like a charm…
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Since one of the reviewers had a bad experience with this player’s quality, I was hesitant to purchase one… even though it was at the top of my list in every other way.

I decided to take a chance and I’m glad that I did. So far it works flawlessly. It has all the features I’m looking for at a price point worth the player. Easy to use and well designed unit and remote. It also has the support of the high reputation of it’s sister player the BD30 among professional reviewers. I have to think the one reviewer with problems was a fluke considering this player’s predecessor and it’s reputation for quality. Fear not.

Great blue ray player, but I wonder if it’s worth it

Simple to set up. Have it hooked up to my Pioneer Kuro 50″ plasma and it looks beautiful. Slightly annoyingly long time to start up when you turn it on.

I just have this slightly nagging feeling that buying a blueray player was just a waste of money as compared to a regular DVD player or an AppleTV. Not sure if paying more for this one vs one of the cheaper blueray players was worth it either.

This player has outstanding audio and video quality. Unfortunately, in my opinion, the owner’s manual was written for a total geek. The instructions for even the simplest function are so convoluted that they are virtually impossible to understand.

The Viera Link instructions are particularly difficult to follow, although one can gather that Viera Link is intended to simplefy thing. If it weren’t for the owner’s manual, I would rate this product five-atars.

I bought the Panasonic HD camcorder at the same time, and those instructions aren’t much better. They give you these incredibly complex instructions on how to edit scenes and burn a DVD, but the things most people want to do is make a video of their grandkids. The basic instructions could be made much simpler. (Same comment for the Viera Link)

Great Player but…

The picture quality and sound on this player are excellent. My unit seems to have issues with the BD-Live feature. After numerous calls into Panasonic Tech Support, they were not able to solve the problem and it looks like I am going to have to send it in to the service center (on my own dime). This is the only trouble that I have had with the unit, the other features work like a charm.

I am a Blu Ray newbie, and I am so glad I made the decision to go for it. This new Panasonic player is highly rated on CNET and other reviews, and of course, I read the reviews on Amazon.

I have a Panasonic 46 inch Plasma Viera 850 series, which is AWESOME, so went with the Panasonic Blu Ray player. I am glad I did. The player came from 6ave, and it arrived early, and in excellent condition, and hooked up very easily. I did update it via the Ethernet connection (GREAT feature) from my router, and that worked flawlessly. It plays regular DVDs beautifully, and of course the Blu Ray is Awesome. I got The Fifth Element and Pirates of the Caribbean to try in Blu Ray, and loved the perfect picture on both of them. This is a great investment and quality product.

I spent a lot of time reserching what type of Blu-ray player to purchase. I read a lot of forums and the one thing that kept being said was to purchase one which had; Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. This unit had everything I was told I should look for. I’m playing my regular DVDs on it currently and the picture is amazing compared to the old DVD player. Can’t wait to go out and purchase some Blu-Ray DVD. Purchased the unit through Amazon and it was shipped from 6ave. Arrived on time and in great shape. The unit is thin and looks great!

High Definition has arrived!!!!!!!!!

With the money we invested with our audio video system we were hard pressed to replace our fantastic processor to obtain the new codecs. This baby solved the problem. Run five cables to your 5.1 analog input and presto chango you entered sonic paradise. We could not believe the clarity, the openness, the impact of the bass, the detail of the sound, surrounds came alive etc etc We got our high def butt kicked. Picture quality is fantastic very detailed. But the sound is what fried our eggs.

Cheap admission for the results we received. Highly recommended.

Excellent Blu-ray Player
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This is my first Blu-ray player, connected to my Samsung 52″ LCD TV. It is absolutely amazing. Picked up the BBC Planet Earth series on Blue-ray and the picture is stunning. I was able to add it to my wireless network by using an Airport Express. The only reason I did not give this Blu-ray player 5 stars is that it doesn’t not come with built in wireless. For the price point, built in wireless isn’t asking too much plus this is compatible with the new 2.0 ‘Live’ discs that enable additional internet content with some Blu-ray discs. With that kind of functionality, wireless seems obvious to me. I was able to update the firmware easily. So far I am very pleased and have owned several Panasonic electronic items and have always had good luck with them. Currently still using a Panasonic DVD Recorder that works perfectly as well.
