Fantastic Netbook!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’m an IT Manager and I needed some ultra portable machine I could use to remote in to one of our offices when I’m out and about or at a different office so I did the research and saw the Samsung NC10 was probably the best reviewed netbook out. Everyone who raved about the NC10 suggested people in the market for a netbook to go with the N110 as it is a new model NC10 with slightly better battery life so I followed their instruction and haven’t regretted it!
I’ve gotten well over 10 hours of use out of this netbook, albeit conserving energy by turning down the brightness and not having things like bluetooh running all the time. Also the programs and utilities that come pre-installed are, for a change, useful utilities that I have appreciated unlike most of the bloat that other companies pre-install like Dell or HP.
I do recommend upgrading the RAM to 2GB but that’s with any netbook, I also upgraded to XP Pro since it is more suited to my uses but XP Home should be fine for most users. Since having this laptop I have been able to tether my Samsung Blackjack via bluetooth and share the internet connection; effectively making this laptop extremely useful if I’m not in an area with wifi.
In the end, I highly recommend this laptop much like everyone else who has purchased it. It’s a bit pricier than the other netbooks but the battery life and quality of it more than warrant the slight price difference.
Very Pleased with the Quality anf Feel! Bravo Samsung!

I received my N100 a few days ago to add portability to computing which my heavy Sony Vaio simply did not have. This little guy is so portable and has all the computing power I need plus the battery lets you go on much longer than what I experience with the older Sony laptop. I love my Sony but I have a special place in my heart for my Samsung N100 now also. I bought the memory upgrade and a beautiful case with memory foam manufactured especially for the N110. The case has two handles and makes for very easy transportation of the N110 and a few accessories. Even though I have large hands I find the keyboard very easy to adjust to. I use a Microsoft wireless mouse with the computer because I am not fond of any touchpads. I also purchased the matching Samsung external drive and find it handy and adequate for the job. All in all I give Samsung very high marks for the N110 for portability and excellence in design. Amazon did a super job of delivery of all the items purchased separately. Three cheers for Amazon and Samsung for a winning combination.
Pretty good for its spec but understand what you are going to use it for

After arduous review of the players in this space, testing keyboards, screens, and watching pricing (and comparing pricing with generic netbooks I can get from China) I settled on the Samsung N110.
This unit was drop shipped by J&H, their fulfillment of the order was ok, just average. Came in about 5 days after ordering.
I bought this units since I travel alot on 8 to 10 hours portal to portal trips, and wanted something that I could work on the plane, maybe play an odd movie, and possibly some videos.
When I got it I deleted some of the non-neccesary files, and dropped in Openoffice, Skype, the usual suspects. I did not buy the extra memory.
The Highs:
1. The form factor is just as advertised. Love it. The keyboard is a little small for working all day on it (more later about that), but very adequate, and the key layout is rational and adequate.
2. Screen is very nice. I really like it. Very crisp and bright.
3. For a 6 cell battery unit, I find the weight is very light.
4. Wifi. Hooking it up took 1 minute, and it has been very good, once set up on a network, it will find the network with no problem. This is important to me as I have two offices, and rotate back and forth.
The issues
1. This is billed as a 9.5 hour battery life. That simply is just not true, the realistic battery life, running wifi and BT, is about 6.5 to 7 hours. I was a little disappointed at this, but I was probably not realistic in my expectations, the 9.5 hours would be with wifi and BT turned off, screen dimmed, etc.
2. A little slow at times.
Having said all that, I have been fighting with my primary laptop, an HP slug with Vista that just loves to freeze and crash. So after the last crash last week, I put all the files on my external hard drive and started using this baby as my primary laptop. To be honest it has worked better, with fewer crashes and system issues (XP vs Vista??), although it will struggle a bit with alot of stuff going on. Just paired it with 20 inch monitors and a separate keyboard in my office, and it has been fine.
I am going to upgrade the memory, and see if that speeds things up, but frankly for my company’s use, I am going to put the guys who travel on this, I can buy 3 of these a year vs. one of the other laptops they were going through each year.
Good job Samsung!
Perfect for me

This netbook met my requirements. It’s light, impressive looking and looong battery life! I’m glad I decided to buy Samsung N110 after checking various netbook models.
Dead on arrival–Great recovery

I purchased the my N110 through Amazon/Beach Camera. It arrive unable to boot up. I called Beach Camera and they immediately agreed to send a replacement. However, they did not offer to cover the original shipping cost, as well as the replacement shipping cost. When I requested this the customer service representative quickly agreed, despite saying that this is not their usual practice. The replacement booted up just fine.
I love this netbook. It boots up quickly, although applications boot more slowly. I use it for short trips and when I attend meetings. It is light, attractive, and can do what I want it to do, which is routine word processing, e-mail, Internet, etc. I’ve tried Skype conferencing, which works well. Battery life is great at 8-9 hours.
The only problem I’ve encountered is that there was a period of time when I had difficulty accessing the Internet via wifi. When I was able to access it, I often lost reception. I think this was related to overheating. These were hot days with room temp in the mid 80s. It appears that the N110 does not keep itself cool very well; I do not detect that it has a fan. I don’t know whether this is behavior is unique to my N110, or whether it is distinctive to them in general
As good as it gets for a netbook!

Installed 2 gig RAM prior to turning on the first time. Works faster than expected, nice screen, good keyboard, internet connection is quick and has good connectivity. I like everything about this netbook, except for the shiny black case which is a fingerprint magnet. Battery life is exceptional! Highly recommended.
Some positives, some negatives.

I got this netbook about a month ago, and deliberately waited to review it to see how it stood up to my busy school life.
Pros:
Nice screen
Plays video well, for the most part.
Using OpenOffice, works great
Multiple programs doesn’t slow machine much.
Great Keyboard
Touchpad is easy to use, but I still bought a mouse
Doesn’t get hot, just warm.
Great Internet surfing
Cons:
Diagonal cracks from the top corners of the screen toward the edges.
Definitely not a 9.5 hour battery life.
Can’t replace my desktop for anything more than flash games.
Glossy screen can show with any amount of backlighting.
Not entirely sure how to insert the SD card, there’s already something in there.
Touchpad’s scrolling is a little hard to get used to. There is also a sideways scroll at the bottom of the touchpad that doesn’t show up or is ever mentioned as far as I can tell.
I got this netbook about a month ago, and deliberately waited to review it to see how it stood up to my busy school life. Overall, I have really enjoyed this netbook. I upgraded to the 2 gig memory in about 2 minutes. Didn’t see much improvement in speed, but multitasking seems faster if not single programs. However, this may have caused the drop in battery life, I’ve never had more than 6.5 to 7 hours at Max Battery Life. Also, it’s really hard to see anything if you’re backlit, but it’s not the end of the world. It does have 3 usb ports, which is good for me because I always have my mouse and a usb drive in, so I can’t see myself needing any more.
Definitely a solid netbook that’s light and fairly fast. I like mine, as long as those structural cracks don’t grow. I do recommend getting the free version of DropBox and storing important documents there. I would and am recommending it to my friends.
fascinating

I am amazed with this Samsung netbook which is mine second notebook( first one is LG 10.2″ at Europe) First of all, I always like Samsung because of its designs and this netbook has a very modern look. Black color with perfect thin red line and with blue leds, it looks great. What I like most:
-the attractive look and great shape of keyboard +its quality
-The quality of the screen( I have also a sony vaio fw 465J)
-Battery life + the battery design creates more space in your case
-Touch pad has same size with some laptops:)
-the webcam is not bad
-speakers are better than expected,
I highly recommend this netbook, I am sure you will love it!
Solid Netbook

I was torn between this netbook and the ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X. I couldn’t get past all the problems people were having withe the AC power adapter and battery on the Asus so I chose the Samsung and couldn’t be happier. There’s nothing worse than a portable device that has power issues.
I also purchased the portable DVD drive and installed Office 2003 and have watched several movies and it runs smooth with no problems. The battery life is excellent.
This little netbook has very little warmth to the bottom of it so you can use it comfortably on your lap.
I like that it’s not loaded with all kinds of bloatware that would take forever to remove.
Overall a great stylish netbook that performs great with excellent battery life. If you are looking for a rock solid netbook look no further.
Just thought I’d add my 5 stars…

I’ve been using the Samsung N110 for 3 days now at the time of this review, and I am very happy with it’s performance.
The screen is excellent (although a bit reflective if there is a bright light to shine off it)
The battery life is wonderful although not quite up to 9.5 hours. I get closer to 7.5 hours with a mixture of light gaming (solitare, pinball etc.) and web browsing.
The touchpad and touch-scroll features respond well.
It easily connected to my home wireless internet without a hitch.
The built-in speakers have acceptible sound considering their size. I’ve heard much worse from speakers built into full size desktop monitors.
Bootup time is fairly fast.
Aesthetically the N110 is better-looking than Acer’s and ASUS’s similar offerings in my opinion.
This is my second purchase of a $300+ Samsung product and I remain pleased with their quality.
Very good quality netbook!

The screen is excellent. And the battery life is amazing. The Samsung is better constructed then the Asus. That’s why I bought the N110 instead of Asus Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X-BK.
Terrible warranty service

I bought Samsung N110 from Amazon on 8/6. It worked fine till the 34th day when some device spinning very very loud while the machine is on. I talked to Samsung support and shipped the machine for repair on 9/14. 9/16 Samsung sent email that they received my netbook and it will be repaired and ship back in 5 business days.
Today is October 6, I still don’t have my computer and don’t know when I’ll receive it. During the past 3 weeks, I made over 10 calls and spent many hours to trace down the status of the netbook. First to found out that it’s waiting for a back order part which doesn’t have a receiving date. After several calls, on 9/25 they agreed to submit exchange request, which didn’t approve till 9/29, then said it’ll take 7-14 business days to process. I check the status on 10/5, and was told that I have to provide UPS tracking number to approve that Samsung received my machine before sending the replacement to me. What in a world that a customer has to provide shipping company’s tracking number to approve to Samsung that they have my machine?!! Samsung has my computer, but they won’t ship the replacement until I provide UPS tracking number!!! What a ridiculous logic that is!!! I’ve been out of my newly purchased netbook for over 3 weeks now, and still don’t know when I’ll have it back. I believed their word and wasted 5 business days to make the first call. If I didn’t trace it down, I will never get my netbook back.
Major Birth Defect– BLANK SCREEN
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I recently purchased a N110 on Amazon. Everything worked fine until I plugged it into my HDTV via VGA cable and then unplugged it. After a few minutes, It started to flicker a bit the the screen went blank!
The notebook is still working on the background since I can still execute functions with key commands from memory, but there’s no possible way to bring the normal screen back.
I find if I hibernate and then start up again, it is fine. But also seems to have a bit of a memory as it can happen then again. So, buyers be aware, it could be defective from manufacturing.
Those who hasn’t experienced the problem, why don’t you give it a try and then tell me what you see.
Again, plug it into an external display such as doing a PowerPoint presentation, then disconnect it, wait for 10 minutes see what happens. Then reply.
So far, so good

Just got my netbook a couple of weeks ago and haven’t had a chance to test it fully but I like the overall design. It’s fast and lightweight and I love the battery life.
This is a really nice netbook !!

I just received the 110 (from Amazon) 2 days ago, and have it setup with all of the apps that I would use on my desktop PC. At the moment, I am using the Bluetooth support to use my LG Incite smart-phone as an internet connection, and it works like a champ (of course the 3G access is not as fast as the home WiFi, but it is the same browsing speed that you would get with your smart-phone). I turned off the wireless (WifI) and the wired Gigabit ethernet to make certain that the internet connection is via Bluetooth.
Since this machine came with 3 disk partitions (one for XP-home, one for a restore backup of XP, and one free for any purpose) it made it tempting to set up another operating system (i.e. tempting because you don’t have to reload XP due to having the free partition available), so I thought I would give Ubuntu 9.04 laptop edition a try. The reason that I choose Ubuntu is because, even though I am very familiar with Fedora, Ubuntu is the preferred Linux distributions for laptops and netbooks (when I say preferred, I mean by OEMs, pre-installed). Not knowing anything about Ubuntu, I wondered why it was the preferred installation, and now I know.
I choose to create the bootable flash-stick, and it worked perfectly on the first try – I used a 2GB flash drive, although it only requires a 1GB drive. Not only is the flash stick bootable for the Ubuntu installation, but it also allows you to run Ubuntu directly off of the flash drive without installing !! The installation only took a few minutes, and when I was done, I rebooted the machine after removing the flash drive and the Ubuntu boot manager appeared, giving me the options of booting XP, Ubuntu, or Ubuntu recovery mode. NOTE: in order to make the 110 able to boot from a USB flash drive, you need to go into the BIOS settings for booting (F2 key at system start time) and change the highest priority boot device to be USB HDD.
The Ubuntu user interface is much nicer than Fedora (I also have the latest Fedora on a different machine) so I understand why OEMs prefer it. To my great surprie, Ubuntu recognized all of the hardware on the 110, so it had drivers for the WiFi and Bluetooth properly selected. I did not have to change a single setting or install any third party drivers. Very impressive indeed.
All and all I am very happy with the 110. The keyboard is great, it comes with all of the bells and whistles (except built in 3G support, which I have worked around by making my smartphone the internet connection through Bluetooth). The screen is very bright and sharp. The battery life is exceptional. There are 7 status LEDs on the front, left of the touch pad (i.e. wireless, hard-drive, battery, caps lock etc..). The sound is better than what I would expect from such a small device. The Samsung external DVD drive looks like it was made for the 110, and it is extremely easy to use – there is no power connector required – you simply plug in both of the USB connectors and the 110 immediately recognizes the device. This is very nice for situations where there is no power available (and it looks really cool – very slim).
I really feel like I’ve gotten a lot of machine for a very reasonable price. YEA to Samsung !!
