Good small computer
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Using this 10 inch computer remindes me of when “portable” computers meant lugables, You know thos 25 pound huge monsters?

By comparison, todays portables seem like lugables compared to these 10 inch computers.

I can not compare the Asus to others, as this is the first netbook I have owned, but it works well, is fast enough for most anything I want to do, and really replaces a flash drive and music player for me.

I can carry it to and from work easily, store all my files on its 160 gig drive, and work anywhere.

Perhaps I should have given it 5 stars, but I am not delighted over it. It meets my needs, and provides the function promised.

However I really dislike windows vista, and if I could have hackintoshed it, or even run linux on it I would be happier.

I think I could still hackintosh it, but it requires changing the wireless card, and I have not wanted to change it enough, yet, to do that.

One comment about suppliers. Be careful. Some say “NO RETURNS”. While Amazon will take care of you, it is very painful to deal with vendors who will not accept returns on these products.

Awesome Little Pink Computer
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Like so many others, I’m quite in love with this little computer. Mine is pink. Sweet! My first experience with it was at an 8-hour education seminar. I took notes on it all day and like others, was really thrilled with the excellent battery life. This little machine is everything it claims to be!

Since I am a person to push equipment to the limit, I have found the following:

1) I purchased an aftermarket CD/DVD player so I could load additional software to the EEE. After attempting to load Photoshop Elements 5.0 an error came up — that my computer did not have a VGA card (?) I have no idea what that is, but sure enough, the program refused to load. So I dragged out my older (and perfectly fine version) … Photoshop Elements 2.0 … and it loaded perfectly. Since I’m not one to be enamored by the latest and greatest version of everything on the planet, I’m thrilled to get my Elements 2.0 up and running on this great little computer.

2) This same CD/DVD player does not have a DVD decoder in it, so Mies won’t play on my Asus EEE – yet. I’ve checked into purchasing decoder software and will soon add it to this groovy little computer. I will be very surprised if I can’t find appropriate equipment to allow me to use my Asus EEE to watch DVDs.

3) I thing the keyboard is the best thing since hands on a clock. A lot of attention was paid to the keyboard sizing and ergonomics, making this a comfortable and easy piece of equipment to use for extended periods.

4) Small thing, but for the record, my computer does not look like the photo displayed on Amazon. My top is not the 2-tone in the picture. Mine is a consistent shade of pearly, iridescent pink. No finger prints, no fuss, no muss, but not the fancy 2-tone as depicted.

5) I, too, LOVE the no-glare screen. Why doesn’t every computer have such a screen?

I will probably continue to use this computer beyond its bragged-upon attributes. It is a terrific little computer and performs way beyond its stated features.

Excellent Netbook

A simple and easy to use netbook. I purchased it for my daughter in college, and it is perfect for simple applications, such as email and the internet.

upgrade of memory to 2GB
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I bought this netbook for my niece who will be attending college next year. I have rarely opened this netbook since receiving it beginning of September 2009. I’ve loaded it with some softwares she needs in the future. Main problem is how to upgrade the Crucial 2GB memory, which until now I have tried installing couple of times but does not read or recognize the upgrade. I will keep it and already recommended to other people, but just need memory upgrade assistance. Visiting ASUS website did not give me much assistance. Help.

Dean on Arrival
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I had great hopes for this little computer after reading the reviews. However, my experience wasn’t so good. I charged the battery overnight, then turned on the computer the next day. After a few seconds of lighted display screen, nothing. I contacted the company, but the advice they gave me was not compatible for my model. I had to send it back. I then bought a netbook computer locally in case there were problems again. A big disappointment, since I couldn’t get the same model. The original model has a dongle for attaching to a projector for presentations.

Love this!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Bought it as a lighter, more portable version of my laptop. Love it! Light and easy to pack, battery has lasted almost 9 hrs for me (several internet windows plus Office; I turn down the screen brightness but still very workable).

I bought the white finish. Very sleek and doesn’t show fingerprints like the blue and black models that I test-drove at Best Buy.

Disappointed
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I did a lot of research before deciding to purchase the Asus Eee PC 1005HA. I was very excited about the decision to buy this one. It’s cute and people seemed happy with it. Since recieving it i’ve been able to use it 2 or 3 times. It freezes up every time I turn it on. Asus instructed me on how to restore it and it’s still not working. I have to mail it in to Asus (and pay for shipping) so that they can repair it. I have had this netbook for 5 weeks. Very disappointing….I wanted to love it and use it for travel but so far it’s been nothing but a headache.

Great until you need warranty support
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
My husband bought one for me for my anniversary. I love it. I carried it everywhere and used it everywhere. Then the power supply failed, less than two months after I got it. Called warranty, waited days, called back, waited, faxed documents, got pissed, called again. The part is on backorder till the end of september which is what they told me on August 20. Called at the end of September, part is now backordered another two weeks. I’ve now called six times. Can’t even get their customer support managers to call me back. Meanwhile, it’s a beautiful paperweight.

Wonderful netbook, runs windows 7 awesome and I love it as much as my iphone but the company completely lets it down.

Great for college–exactly as advertised!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have an Apple MacBook Pro circa 2007, and after about a year, its battery life dropped to about 5 minutes. Instead of buying a rather expensive battery that could also die after a year for all I know, I decided to go with something far more portable and practical for my simple mobile needs.

Uses:

E-mail, calendars, Microsoft PowerPoint and OneNote note taking for lectures, MS Word usage, and general internet surfing.

Pros:

The EeePC has not disappointed me in performance in any way, and I do honestly get between 6 and 9 hours of battery life, turning my WiFi and WebCam when not using them.

The keyboard is totally comfortable to use, and feels the same as my MacBook Pro’s.

I was worried the screen size would restrict me from effectively viewing pdfs or large images, but I have been pleasantly surprised by how much space it really has, and have not had any issues with the small screen.

AMAZING PRICE.

Cons:

Admittedly the Synaptics touchpad is a bit sticky and not nearly as smooth/responsive as the one you’ll find on an Apple product, but it has useful features you can get like 2-finger scrolling and pinch to zoom (I highly recommend finding the latest drivers online–automatic updates won’t get the latest ones).

The black model does show even minor scratches and fingerprints very easily, if that bothers you.

Overall you cannot beat the price and the quality of the product has more than satisfied my expectations thus far!

How’d they get so much power into such a portable PC?
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
We love this little gem! I researched up the wazoo and settled on this one for many reasons, including:

1. battery life — the best! tho. watch which exact model you get

2. power/speed — again the best,

3. cooling ability — a lot of power creates a lot of heat; Dell and other brands have no cooling fan, which not only creates mucho heat on your lap, but also affects performance I’m told; granted, the fan can get a little noisy when you have 10 windows (on the computer) open and lots of computing going on, but it becomes white noise quickly,

4. price — pretty much in the ballpark of the others, maybe even a bit lower.

One little complaint, which I read elsewhere too, is that the default setting for the screen resolution isn’t right, and it took awhile to find the little icon in the lower right tray, right click it, and select the right option. Otherwise, we’re very happy. Get a cheapo external DVD R/W for backups and watching movies, etc. Enjoy!

Great netbook if you don’t need power or customer service
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
The features of this netbook are very nice. Nice keyboard, screen, specs, etc.

The power adapter is specialized to this laptop. On the one we received, the power adapter quit working after 2 hours. We called customer service, and even though we had had the computer for less than 24 hours, the best they could offer was a replacement adapter in about a week, after WE filled out and FAXED them paper work. Even though they took all our information, AND we had registered, so our information was already in their system. They would be happy to expedite a replacement part for THEIR defective product IF we paid the expedite fees. I wonder what they would feel like if they were in our shoes, and then were told all this.

I don’t care how good the netbook is, if the accessories are poor quality, and the customer service is this poor, I will think three times before buying another one of their products. Too bad for them and good for us that the competition is fierce, and there are plenty of quality competitors out there.

Nice product, poor support
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I would agree with other reviewers here that while the netbook itself is quite nice, I can’t recommend it because of the customer support — it’s the worst I’ve experienced for a computer maker. Mine came with a defective battery and so in early August I called to create an RMA. I was told they had no batteries in stock but would ship one out by the end of September. Well the date had arrived and I received no communication so I called and was told they still do not have batteries in stock and cannot give an ETA when they will arrive. It just seems outrageous considering this model of netbook is in stock on every retail website I’ve seen. I’ve faxed the “cross-shipment” form twice now and they still claim they haven’t received it. So now I use it on A/C only and hope that I might one day receive a new battery before the warranty expires. It’s a shame because overall I like it, but if support is a concern for you, I’d suggest looking at another brand.

Great all around netbook for the price!
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I bought this for school and for the purposes I am using it for (Word Processing, internet, Power Points), it is a great little machine! Very light and portable, GREAT battery life and wonderful resolution. The only quibble is the keys are a tad finicky, as they sometimes push down too far or overlap. But it IS a small net book and that is probably to be expected if you don’t have kid sized fingers. All around, a great value!
