Acer Aspire One
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
After customizing the Aspire to my liking (deleting previously installed items) I began to hear a high-pitched squeal and a tick-tick-tick I didn’t want to assume the worst so I muted the speakers hoping this would solve the problem…as in maybe I was just picking up interference.

The noise remained and you could hear it from a distance. Then the computer started acting really slow and sluggish so I was pretty much certain the hard disk was dying. I did a quick Google search and other customers had this problem with the Aspire, and received no help from customer service (which has very bad reviews, by the way). Needless to say I packaged it up and sent it back the next day.

I decided to give the Aspire a 3/5 rating because even though I had a bad experience I wouldn’t imagine this to be the case for everyone; it may have gotten damaged in shipping I’ll never know. The weight is wonderful and perfect for anyone who would be taking it to school which is why I originally bought it. The blue does pick up fingerprints, but that’s expected since it’s so glossy. The mousepad is a good fit. I found the left/right click to be a little hard to press down (plus I’m used to them being seperated where in this case it’s just a solid bar). The screen was very crisp and clear. Aside from a dying hard disk I didn’t feel like I would grow attached to the Aspire design overall, but it may be perfect for you. If you’re looking for something that isn’t priced too high I would also suggest looking at HP. I’ve ordered an HP Mini that is around $279 since I am more familiar with HP and know their customer service is more willing to help out.

Acer is excellent!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I purchased the Acer Aspire Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook – 6.5 Hour Battery Life netbook a few weeks ago and absolutely love it. This was my first laptop-ish purchase, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I had read a lot of reviews and price comparisons. The Acer was at the top of many product reviews, plus the price was great. I also had an amazon gift card, which made the purchase through amazon an easy choice for me.

The Acer battery life is great! Unlike some other comparable netbooks, the Acer’s battery life is 6.5 hours. Initially, I didn’t think the battery life would be that much of a deal breaker for me, but now I am definitely glad that I went with a netbook that has longer battery life.

I love a lot of things about the Acer….the color, the battery life, the keyboard, the functionality, the quality…etc. At this point, the only minor complaint I have is that the mouse can be a little sensitive. It sometimes clicks on things before I have even realized I have clicked the mouse. Otherwise, no complaints.

I would highly recommend the Acer, especially for first time netbooks users. You will get all the features you want in a stylish netbook.

Love it!

Been using this computer for about a month now and I think it’s great! The 6-hour battery life is definitely worth purchasing over the 3-hour battery. Great wireless capability.

The sound is the only thing I might change, to make it a little louder….but I wouldn’t change it by much.

Excellent deal
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’ve been absolutely delighted with my Aspire One. I loaded it with Ubuntu Netbook Remix as soon as I got it, and everything “just worked” after I updated the BIOS on the Aspire. This little gem goes to all my meetings, to and from work, and I can use it whenever the mood strikes me without worrying about the battery running out, even with high brightness and Wi-fi always on. My one recommendation: If you plan on watching videos/Hulu/etc. on the device, go ahead and purchase the 2GB single stick of RAM (it’s like $25); you’ll want it if you want seamless video playback. Overall, and excellent product!

Great Little Netbook/Price is Right!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
We’ve had the netbook for about a month. It is fun and works great. No complaints here. It is all we expected and more. Easy to trasport and although we have never had 6.5 hours we get about 5 with contant use. I highly recommend this computer. It was a birthday gift for my husband and I priced them everywhere. Amazon was the only place I could get the 6 cell battery for the same price everyone else was charging for the 3 cell. If you are looking to buy one for a Christmas gift I don’t think you will be disappointed.

Nice little mini laptop if you know what your buying
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I purchased this computer to use as a second laptop downstairs so I would not have to carry one up and down the steps, so this computer is not used as a power user computer.

When I was looking for something inexpensive to just do the basics I looked at several mini laptops and I finely decided on this one. I just had a friend who purchased the Toshiba mini that I liked but I did not like the fact it only had one speaker. Not that is a huge deal but I do like to watch some youtube videos and I liked this laptop because it does have two stereo speakers.

Before purchase I checked pricing and found that Amazon had the best price on this mini laptop. Matter of fact Walmart was 4 dollars higher and had only the 2.5 hour battery is one has the larger battery.

Right out of the box it was very simple to get it up and running. There not too much junk software installed. I did uninstall works, student office and the anti virus program and installed AVG anti virus, and Microsoft Office.

I already had a DVD burner to make backups of the Operating system and of the applications that are installed but did run into problems getting the DVD rom to burn the backup correctly. The solution for me was to go into properties of the DVD drive and change the setting for burning to a 4x write, and that worked just fine.

The only real thing I am not too satisfied with is the display, it’s kind of dark and when you lighten the screen it gets too shiny.

If you want a basic computer nothing fancy, and you want something light very portable than this computer might be for you. If you are a power user forget it, or a gamer.

I would like to add that it was shipped very quickly and double boxed.

Slow as molasses

I purchased this machine for a class I took, and found it was too slow to be useful. When I returned home, I looked at the disk, and it had numerous files which were not Germaine to XP, and which I did not create. I’m sure this machine was previously owned, and re-packaged by the store. I contacted Acer, and paid them to ship me the original XP install disks. I re-formatted the disk, and loaded the OS on a clean disk. To my surprise, the machine was still to slow for me. Browsing the internet was painfull, and the boot time was almost 2 minutes. I decided either to sell it, or to make it work for me. I exchanged the 1GB memory for a 2GB strip; Replaced the HDD with a 32GB SSD, and formatted the disk, and loaded Ubuntu. It is now a nice machine… very usable.

Acer Aspire One Netbook computer
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Neat little computer, easy to carry. Thus far, has functioned flawlessly. We intend to use it as a back up to our desktops, and for traveling. Will fill the bill for travel perfectly, lightweight, easy to carry, yet versatile enough to do all the things we need to do while out of town. Hard drive has plenty of capacity for our needs.

People new to Netbooks should not expect the same speed of performance as with a much more powerful desktop or laptop. A Netbook is not designed to replace your current computer, it is a compact, easy to use, convenient little device to be used when you don’t want to carry your bulkier laptop with you.

All in all, the Acer is a top notch product, and the price is right.

I got this netbook about 10 days ago primarily so I can have access to the internet and retrieve emails when away from home. It has worked perfectly. I also love the compact size.

Just got it and I am in love already!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have read many of the reviews and some critiqued the “small” keyboard and the tiny screen. Well, all I can say is that

if you want a mini-laptop for the convenience of portability and as an adjunct to your “stay at home/office” laptop or desktop, this is the BOMB!

If you have extraordinarily large hands, it may be an issue, but I am an average female– with rather long fingers— and the keyboard is just fine.

I probably would not want a 1GB 10.1″ screen laptop primarily to run my business, but for travel and on the road, you cannot

beat this. I also don’t worry much about security since I don’t have anything stored on it that could be compromised. Most of my documents and programs I use are online, which allows me great flexibility. I can always add another GB if I want, but I don’t think I will need to.

I love the size, the light weight and the Ruby Red is gorgeous. I like the XP OS and I decided against the Asus since Linux was not compatible with Open Office Org, the FREE software I use instead of Microsoft Office.

I think this is way better than any iphone and way more useful. I have a tiny little flip-top cell phone with my directory stored in it.

With a 6.5 hour battery (and I haven’t tested this out yet), and for under $300, I am very pleased.

Very frustrated
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Purchased the item for my daughterand received it on October 6th, 2009. Pluggged in and attempted to turn it on after a few minutes but without any response. The Power On button lighted up right away and the hard drive was working with low pitch humming. However, no response in the monitor. Press the power off-and-on button several times it finally responded. I attempted to put in the 2G SDRAM with some difficuly then the machine stopped working. I switched the 2G SDRAM back to original 1G and press the on-and-off button numerous times it finally workied again. Attempted to install Norton 360 the machine stucked during installation. Now it literally refused to be turned on. If I am not able to use it I doubt my 8-year-old will be able to. Always trusted Acer since I am a Taiwanese but then felt so frustrated with the quality. Will return it right away and have to explained to my daugther in length. Thanks :(

Don’t recommended
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
Don’t recommended, go with msi wind U100-432US. The chasis is made of this really cheap plastics the makes cracking noises when you lightly pussh on it. The right click button is a piece of garbage, I have to press it extremely hard for it to work. Another thing is the screen, on the right it feels like it is hollow, what I mean is every time i lift up the lid, it feels like the plastic is about to crack. It makes like a clicking sound, I know it sounds weird but it’s just how it is. As far the battery life, I get around 4 hours max, not 6.5 hrs. Another thing that sucks is not it does not support bluetooth. Shipping was great by the way. I strongly suggest you go with another netbook.

Not too Shabby
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I purchased this for my step-son’s birthday and to my surprise it wasn’t too bad. It is small, as most netbooks are, but it uses a normal windows operating system, so it is just as easy to use as a regular PC or laptop. The only things that I didn’t like was that the battery gets too hot , its a little slower, and that you can’t double-tap on the mouspad, you have to click the left click button. Other than that is pretty good. Great for a 3rd PC.
