5 hour battery life, not 7

I bought 4 Asus Eee netbooks within the last 2 months. I started with a good one for my husband for his trip, then ordered one for myself, that one was returned. I replaced a white one VU1X. The battery die the 2nd night. I returned it and bought a new one with different battery life. Turn out it was a different model than the white one I had and returned before. This one is going to Hong KOng. Hope this one is a good one, not a lemon. I tested the battery life in different ways. It lasts about 5 to slightly over 5 hours. But never 7 hours.

Other things to remind buyers. I thought all ASUS Eee netbooks are ATom N processor. Wrong. Some are Intel Atom N processor, some are Intel Celeron. Model number maybe the same, but the processor or the model maybe different. Read the description carefully.

I bought all from Beach Camera via Amazon. Beach Camera shippments are fast and provides great services. But i worry that they said they do not accept PC return. As the chance of getting ASUS lemon is 50/50, I do not want to deal with ASUS customer services. They are horrible. I followed the tech support instructions, it did not work. Then, you could hear from her voice that she started thinking you are a 'stupid woman'.

Great little machine…

Travel a little? Spend a few hours away from the office here and there? Still need to get access to your files, e-mail, and other information? Then and Eee PC might be for you. For me, the cost was definitely right. I love my desktop and spend as little time away from it as possible. But I still needed easy access for the times when I was away. Running Windows XP, the Eee PC is just like a laptop but smaller, quieter, and cheaper. While it won’t win any prizes in the “Computing Power Olympics” (or run any modern games) it can definitely fill in when you need a quick computer-fix while you’re on the road or on the run. Only downside is that Asus was a little cheap on the memory side, but for $25 more that is easy fixed.

Few Flaws - Not Perfect!

I've had mine for a couple of months now. Few flaws I've found.

1) The monitor output doesn't work for my HD LCD TV (I thought there was something wrong with the current cable I have, but bought a new one and it still doesn't work!)

2) Battery life isn't what it claims... 10 hours huh? More like 3.5. I sent an email to ASUS and no response yet.

3) You'll find that some software won't work unless it's in XXXX x XXX pixels.

Other than that, it's convenient. It takes time to get use to the keyboard like everyone says. If I could, I might have gone with an HP.

Great Little Notebook!

I am very happy with this little notebook! Although I use a larger Mac laptop as my primary computer, this one is wonderful for it’s portability. It easily fits in my book bag. I read some of the more technical reviews here prior to purchasing, and was impressed. So far this little Eee lives up to the reviews.

I did install the optional 2 GB memory because I wanted to run photoshop and other software. Everything works just fine.

I would recommend the Asus eee 1000HA to anyone who is looking for a small portable computer.

6 mos.: button failure, touch pad failure, hard drive failure

I ordered this laptop 6 months ago from Amazon, and was initially pleased except for a few things:

- battery life quickly dropped from "7-8 hours" to more like 3.5-4, even with screen brightness down and power-saving battery setting
- the right Shift key, as everyone says, is a phenomenal pain, and takes a week or so to adjust to
- the wifi signal was inevitably weaker than I would get with other laptops in a side-by-side comparison

About three months in, the left button below the touch pad stopped working. A problem, but I adjusted to using just the touch pad. Then the touch pad began acting up -- not releasing when I released my finger, etc. I switched to using a portable mouse more often and got ready to send it in for a repair.

Not soon enough. The hard drive died two nights ago. No warning, no trauma, just a blank screen and no more whirring sound. The BIOS doesn't find it, and ruling out a few other things means it's fried, along with months of work. (Back your data up TODAY, people.)

This is the last Asus product I ever buy.

Great Laptop… Even if a tad limited.

I ordered this laptop a few months ago, just as something nice and basic to get the job done while I’m in transition. It’s a great laptop, don’t get me wrong, but the graphics card can be a bit limiting, but this laptop can still crank out some games I wouldn’t expect, like Half-Life 2[but for some reason CSS doesn't run], though. And the lack of a disc drive can be annoying when you don’t have other means to run discs. Besides those two nitpicks, which you should already know before buying it, it’s a great laptop for the price. The wireless works great, the memory keeps it running fast and smooth, and really portable. Given a second chance I probably would’ve just waited to get a laptop more suited to my tastes, but this handy little netbook should be just perfect for most audiences.

Small and powerful

This is a very compact but relatively powerful laptop. My only problems have been the space bar usually inserts two spaces rather than one, and I have had problems in connecting to the internet at times using my home network over a satellite connection. Other than those problems, we have been very happy with the computer.

It is a good device, to travel, or to stay on-line, however to be a team with little memory, it is usually very slow, the one that wants to use it as regular computer, is not very good.
