Great Netbook!!!!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I can’t say enough about how good this little netbook is. I have found nothing to complain about. It has been on for two months now and has no problems at all. The wifi card is excellent. It picks up signals that my full sized laptop can’t.

Click the F11 key to go full screen when you are using your browser and you will have plenty of screen space. I have also used this with a second monitor, set up to be my primary, and it works flawlessly.

I have small hands so the smaller keyboard is not an issue.

pretty decent computer
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
The big plus to this netbook was the small size and portability, yet retaining many features and hard drive size of regular notebooks. The sub $300 price was pretty attractive as well. Lack of a CD/DVD drive was not a drawback since the main goal of the purchase was a small computer. For my needs, I’d rather have a smaller computer minus the CD, than a bulkier one with the CD. I can always sit at home and plug in an external CD drive to load software.

Here’s the biggest negative to this computer-the size of text and images. Obviously, when you’ve got a 9 inch monitor, things are going to appear smaller. I just didn’t realize how small until I bought it. I would strongly recommend to others to check it out at a store first, to see if this issue is acceptable. For all the benefits of the netbook, ie size, I can live with the small text, but it does take some getting used to, especially when you’ve been accustomed to a larger monitor. There may be a way to enlarge the images, but I would imagine that would have some consequence(I’m not computer savvy, so I wouldn’t know for sure-just a guess).

love, love, LOVE this netbook
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought this netbook in February and it is still as fast and effective as it was when I took it out of the box. I take it with me to the library every time I go so I can access the wireless network on my own machine, plus I’ve taken it on vacation because it’s so portable. Plus, I do all of my graduate school work on this little machine. It still boots quickly and is able to run multiple applications at once. My favorite aspects of this computer are its portability, decent battery life, and the cute pink color.

Horrible Customer Service – Avoid Acer!!!!
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I would have rated this laptop fairly high, we got it at a good price, and it was perfect for my son to use to access the internet (and not tie up our other computers).

BUT…we had a problem with the video component of the laptop after only about 6 months. We returned it to Acer (they have no local service facility and they REQUIRE that you ship it back to them at YOUR cost) for repair because it was still under warranty. About two weeks later we received the laptop back, with an apparent puncture in the screen and huge cracks emanating from that down either side of the screen. There was no note or explanation from Acer.

I called Acer Tech Support and I was told that there is a crack in the screen and I had to pay $199 for them to repair it.

I told them that there was NOT a crack in the screen when I sent it to them, that I shipped it to them following their instructions to the letter (actually it was packed better than they suggested, in about 5 inches of bubble wrap all around), and I expected them to repair or replace the laptop.

They claim that the damage must have been caused in shipping, but I disagree. I honestly believe they caused the damage and are now trying to cover it up. In the interest of customer service, you would think they would just fix or replace it (what would that cost them in real costs? $100? Come on Acer, grow up). As it was I was on the phone for two hours straight, first with foreign (India) tech support reps, and then with US based (I think) Customer Service reps. I spoke to 4 different people and they were all steadfast in their determination not to help me – to them, apparently, I was a liar and therefore I had to pay for the repair.

I asked for a mailing address so I could file a written complaint with their company, and the CS rep said he didn’t know the address where he came to work every day (this exchange provided the only comic relief in hours of painful exchange – I said “OK, when you drive in in the morning, what does it say on the front of the building?” He replied that he didn’t know).

I called Amazon customer service the next day, and was told it was the manufacturer’s responsibility to take care of this and that Amazon couldn’t (or rather wouldn’t) help me.

Acer says I have to go to the shipper and try to get money from them. I believe that Acer caused the damage (and if they didn’t, their product is inherently defective if it cannot be shipped in a closed position) and they should do the right thing and replace the now completely unusable laptop.

I would avoid buying any Acer product unless you are prepared for a Customer Service nightmare. A good deal on a cheap little laptop isn’t such a good deal after all when the company won’t stand behind their product, and when Amazon won’t stand behind their most faithful customers.

If you have already purchased an Acer product, and find that you need to return it for service – take pictures of every aspect of the product before you ship it. This way when they call you, their customer, a liar, you have photographic evidence to the contrary.

If you haven’t purchased an Acer product yet – think twice. You may pay a little more for Sony or LG or another higher quality brand, but you might find you have a partner rather than an enemy when you need their help.

I am giving this one star only because you can’t go any lower.

Shame on you, Acer and Amazon, for the awful treatment of your customers.

Addendum: I sent Amazon a copy of this review and they offered to refund the purchase price. They did this within 20 minutes of my sending an e-mail through their “Contact Us” page. Way to go, Amazon – you have restored my faith in you. Acer, however, continues to battle me every step of the way, and regardless of Amazon’s noble action, I plan to file a complaint with the BBB and elsewhere.

Small and light
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I use the Acer Aspire One for presentations outside my office. The Aspire is perfect for the job; I can also access my desktop computer using the Internet so I always have the information I need with me.

Be careful with the bag. Be sure it has an extra place for cable and mouse.

Small But Powerful
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
The Acer Aspire One 8.9″ is a tiny but yet powerful computer. Running Windows XP Home Edition, the netbook provides all the services and convenience of a full dimension laptop packed into the size of a large book. The screen is tiny and the keyboard cramp, but if you need a full service computer for a briefcase or handbag, this guy is it. Even the built in web-cam works flawlessly. I decided on the glossy-black unit but be warned it’s a fingerprint magnet. As for the screen, expect to squint a bit when reading small text- but hey it’s the size that matters…

Pro- a full computer with ample disk space, Wifi, card readers, and web-cam.

Con- small screen and a small keyboard. Also the built in touchpad is a somewhat weird design with the mouse buttons on the side rather than the bottom of the pad.

soooo disappointed
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I had high hopes for this, after I researched the Acer Aspire on multiple websites. I wanted something small for me to take with me on vacations, solely for the purpose of keeping in touch and being able to get on the internet and check on tourist sites, restaurants, attractions, etc.. So the first week I had it, I set up my browser preferences, email, etc. – packed it in my suitcase and was quite pleased with my choice. At the hotel, within a couple hours, I got the blue screen of death flashed by with a page full of text and shut down. I gave it a cooling down period, but it would not restart – - – I just had a black screen. The next day, it booted up, seemed fine, but then again, the old BSOD and nothing! Repeat scenario several times. After vacation, I put the Acer away until 6 weeks later, I went on another vacation. Checked out the Acer at home, and everything seemed fine. Arrived at hotel – - – same story as last time!!! (I think my Acer is allergic to hotels!!!)

This time, when I got home, I emailed Acer tech support. They were very responsive, and gave me several steps to go through, things to test. So by email they tell me to mail in the netbook, but they didn’t give me the address! So I called Acer, HE wants me to do each of those tests, try this, try that, and after a lot of pushing, FINALLY got the address to mail it in for service.

A week later, I had it back, and it worked fine – - they said they upgraded the BIOS. Everything looked good. UNTIL I went on vacation again – - – you KNOW what happened – - – - – it worked a couple hours, then BSOD. I never could get it back up again, after 5 days of trying.

So now, I’m looking at taking a glass of wine with a couple prozac before I get on the phone with Acer again.

Maybe I’ve got a lemon.

Great little machine

Better performer than I was expecting. Only one problem. The memory card reader came not working for Sony memory sticks. It worked for the other formats, just not that one. Annoying, but not a deal breaker.

Not garbage but close to it.
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
Runs most programs ok with XP nothing impressive, but the power supply and charger connector is just garbage and stays loose in the connector port causing it to zone in and out and not charge properly. Once you unplug it it shuts off, no battery life to speak off. Net books suck anyway, most laptops are now are no different to carry around and at least then you have full performance, battery life and screen size eg. Macbook Pro/Air.

Very pleased with performance
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
My first effort in the netbook world was the orginal asus 2 gig surf. It filled a need at the time and was well enjoyed used for web surfing email only. When i looked to expanding the asus i found by getting the orginal it was not as easy to upgrade as other latter asus were.

A pal mentioned this one and after doing homework asking questions here i went a head and used a seller on amazon and got it.

Very pleased with windows xp, the larger hard drive multi usb ports 2 different sd ports .

I found since this one had more features then my orginal one I use it much more often.

I got a flash drive for transfering files and found a 2.0 slim dvd external drive for this which made it complete to me.

Happy with purchase and glad i tried this acer instead of the other route i was looking to go. I also like the way acer did the space bar better then the asus…..

Good Value for the price
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Got it for my wife.

She uses it for web, email and light office work.

Very compact and handy, small enough to fit in her bag.

It’s not a laptop replacement by far, but for such a price who could ask for more.

Great for the traveler
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This little laptop has been with me for about 6 months now. I really have enjoyed the little computer. It has been my lifeline during my travels overseas. I have taken it to London, Seoul, Dubai, Munich, and all over the US. My main reason for liking the netbook is its portability. It is so easy to take a little netbook out with my work issued computer (big old HP). This netbook is great when you are streaming from the web; both music and movies. Playback isn’t that great but lowering the size helps. Typing isn’t too bad, but I am upgrading to the acer 11.6 in model. Acer has addressed issues that I was wanting to see in a netbook. This guy will go to my son and is a good back up for the main computer. My biggest complaint is that the internet connection is inconsistent at best. Every now and then the wifi turns off. I have tried the power-saver solution but it didn’t fully solve the problem. I have a old linksys usb adapter (it is about half the size of the netbook)…crazy but it works. All in all I would and have recommended this product others and would buy again myself.

Good spec’s but no operating system installed
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
After reading the Amazon reviews, which were largely positive, I ordered this unit for a trip to Thailand and Cambodia. I had read the one review which said

“I heard good things about this item, but unfortunately the one I received did not have the operating system installed. I had to return it for a full refund”.

Remarkably enough, the unit I received was also missing an operating system! Amazon has taken back the unit and I’m replacing it with an ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X-BK 10.1-Inch Black Netbook (with 10 hour battery life!)

From the reviews I have now read, Buying an Acer Aspire is an unpredictable and often disappointing experience. [ASIN:B001NT9UIA Acer Aspire One AOA150-1555 8.9-Inch Onyx Black Netbook - 2.5 Hour Battery Life]
