I would NOT recommend this product.
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I did not have a good experience with this laptop cooling pad. Though it looks convenient in theory (it’s lightweight and the cord that plugs into the USB port is about the right length), mine just…doesn’t work well.

The fan stopped working completely after about a week. Not good, right? The only good thing I can say about it is that its concave design allows SOME air to flow under the laptop, which does help a bit when it comes to overheating (only minimally, though–my computer still overheats regularly). You can achieve the same effect by propping the computer up on something.

The rubber grips that are supposed to hold the computer in place aren’t “sticky” enough; the computer shifts around a lot if not set on a completely solid and stationary surface (making it impractical to use on your knees or while sitting on a bed).

All in all, I was very disappointed in this product. I would not buy one again.

The BEST Cooler I’ve had
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I has to be the best cooler i’ve owner, it keeps my MacBook cool, the computer fan is hardly even on, I like the fact that I can actually feel the air blowing underneath my MacBook, I know that this cooler is keeping my laptop cool, AWESOME product a must buy.

Cheap, inadequate, short cord, loud. Dont buy.

Very cheap plastic and very flimsy. I had to position my laptop to the right so the air would cool the part that was getting hot (to the left), and it barely tipped and started making a deathly clicking sound. Returned to normal the next day, but it shouldnt be that fragile. The cord is super short and i have to turn the unit backwards just to reach the USB port near the front of my laptop! But it blows air and not sucks it through, which is good. But the fan is loud! Louder than my laptop fan when it works overtime, which is saying a lot. And who puts a fan in the center of the unit? That is not where laptops (at least any laptop ive ever encountered) needs cooling. Granted, I have a 17in, and this was not made for a 17in laptop. It puts a fair amount of air out and would be an OK fan for a smaller laptop, which is the only reason i gave it two stars. But you can buy cheaper 2 fanned cooling pads. Dont buy.

cooling good!

I got this about a week ago, and since the first minutes it worked just great.

Had my quickly overheating laptop running just when the shipment arrived. I plugged it in and the temperature started dropping immediately.

I’m living in West Texas, with the AC NOT running most of the time…I like it hot, my laptop does not.

The average temperature dropped from around 60° Celsius to around 48° Celsius (yes I’m european we got that other method of displaying the temperature, and I dont get yours).

when its running on 100% cpu usage, the cpu temperature sometimes got up to 80°Celsius, shortly after that the laptop did an emergency shutdown. With this cooler the temperature never got over 62°Celsius, which is really nice.

The Construction seems to be quite stable, mostly its sitting on the table, using it on my knees isnt very comfortable for me, because the cooling pad is so small. I’m using it for a 15.5″ laptop, and it looks a little strange because the pad is so tiny…might be more “eye-appealing” to use it with a 14″ and smaller.

Im not saying you shouldnt use it with a 15.5″ laptop, mine has a very solid place on it! Just looks a little weird.

I uploaded a picture so you can see how it looks.

Another thing to mention might be that this pad does NOT supply an additional usb-port, so if you’re short on usb-ports, you should search for another pad or also get a usb-hub.

Its also not VERY quiet, so if you like using your laptop in a silent space, not listening to music or other “noises”, you might not like to have the overall noise of your laptop being raised quite a bit.

All in all I’m quite satisfied with this, though I dont know yet about its long-term-durability…I read some reviews from people saying the fan broke after a short amount of time, so maybe I’ll get back here to add a comment about that issue.

On again, Off again

Bought this cooler on Aug 4 due to the good reviews. My laptop had started getting so hot it was turning itself off – really not good!! Anyway, received the Belkin in perfect condition & in good time. It worked perfectly. Kept my laptop cool and I was happy as a clam for all of 2 wks when the fan suddenly stopped. One of the arms on the fan had broken & was just hanging there. After pulling the broken piece off the fan started right back up and again I was happy as a clam for another week. The fan stopped again – this time due to the back panel pressing too closely to the fan. Guess this happened when I set it down without putting up the little stand thing. After tugging on the circular back panel over the fan to give it a little more room it started right back up. And I was again clam happy for a week. This time the fan stopped due to cat hair. I have a long-haired cat & I guess it had sucked in too much hair, clogged everything up, & the fan stopped. So I cleaned out all the hair & again the fan worked fine. Now I’ve discovered I have to clean cat hair out of the fan about once a week or it will simply stop. Really good product but it had some technical issues of it’s own and I would not recommend it to someone with a long-haired cat…

Update: Sept 22 – think it’s dead for real this time. I’ve poked, prodded, cleaned, & even banged a little. It’s not working. Thinking of getting a replacement but from other comments don’t know if it’s worth the trouble. Might just try a different brand…

i was disappointed

i have this cooling fan and was totally disappointed. first, the stand on the back broke off and because my laptop is a little to big for the pad, the rubber strips that are supposed to keep the laptop from sliding, got chewed up by the bottom of the laptop. the blades broke on the fan and it got very noisy. now it doesnt work at all. i have had it for maybe a year. i have a dell widescreen 15.5 inch laptop. this cooling pad is too small for the laptop.

Fan is unbearably loud since first use
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
My MacBook Pro recently overheated so badly that it completely crashed due to internal heat damage. After the having the logic board replaced, I bought the Belkin laptop cooling pad to make sure it never overheated to such a dangerous level ever again. However, from the first use the noise of the fan was so loud that I had to unplug it because it was bothering my roommates (with both our doors closed and thick walls, I’m not kidding, it’s LOUD!)

I tried everything to get it to quiet down; I thought I could reposition it, clean it, tap it gently, try unplugging it and replugging it in, using different USB ports, leaving it plugged in for a long time to see if the noise eventually died down (I only got to try the last option when no one else was home), I even tried taking it apart to see if anything was obviously scraping the blades, but none of these things worked. At first I thought I just had a defective fan in mine because surely not all of them could be this loud, or they wouldn’t sell, but after reading other reviews here and searching for words like “noise” and “sound” in other online reviews of this product, I find that LOTS of people have problems with the sound, it seems to be the second biggest reason why people have to get rid of theirs (the first most common being that the fans simply stop working, which seems to happen most often in under 6 months).

I wish so much that I was in the minority of people who have had this product work well for them. Luckily I kept my receipt and the original packaging, and I will not be exchanging it for another Belkin laptop cooling pad, I will be putting the store credit towards buying another type of cooling pad, hopefully the price difference of $10 between this and the other cooling pads will be worth it. Either way, myself (and my roommates) will be happy to get the awful grating sound this fan produces, out of our lives.

Seriously, don’t buy it, the chance that you will be one of the lucky few who has a quiet, rewarding experience with this product are slim to none.

the fan broke after a month. The plastic fan will hit contantly with the walls..and the sound well, you can imagine. Very poor construction..Do not recommended…

Fan Noise
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
While I think the unit does a great job keeping the laptop cool when I first boot up the machine the fan emits what sounds like loud bearing noise. After the OS boots up fully it quiets to a hush. It may be that the USB port is not receiving the full voltage (12 volts) that the fan requires. Other than that I feel better about using the machine all day because I can feel the cool air flowing from the unit. Great Product

Broke in Just a Few Weeks

I found that the leg support in the back of this product would slam my laptop down if I moved it slightly in any direction because it doesn’t lock into place. Eventually the leg support broke off and the fan stopped working completely. Very disappointed.

I got this one on sale, and it lasted about a month. The fan blade broke and that was that. The fan is too open to whatever on the top and I don’t know if something fell in it or what but it didn’t last very long. This thing wouldn’t work very well on a soft surface, lake a bed, it got blocked off very easily. I tried several different coolers and the only that has worked for me in the Antec which has been working for over 6 months with no problems, but it has a lot more protection around the fans and is designed to work on any surface unlike the Belkin.

so-so
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
This cooling pad is very effective. My computer used to heat up pretty fast and I had to turn it off every three hours to let it cool down. With this cooling pad my computer can run all day and doesn’t heat up that much….BUT I bought the cooling pad in June, now it’s the end of September and I already have to throw this one out and buy and a new one, because, first of all, it’s now making so much noise that I simply can’t stand it, second, one of the little wings of the fan broke off. So I’d give it five stars for effectiveness, but the durability could certainly be much better!

This so-called “laptop cooler” worked for me about a week and one of the blades fell off. I had to unscrew the thing and take the blade out and now when I plug in the USB it doesn’t even work! This thing is definitely NOT worth $20. And the funny thing is, I had to smack it around like 5 times and blow on the back for the fan to start running, speak of ghetto… Don’t waste your money folks.
