A computer of missed potential
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
This is a fast, complex laptop all but ruined by the Vista operating system, hard disc restoration system and very poor unwanted software like Norton 360. It mysteriously crashed the first week and I had to use the recovery system, losing a lot of work and files in the process. I guess I will keep it but I am disappointed with it.

Beware Toshiba Satellite Webcam
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
The model I bought (P205-S6297)is no longer available.

However, I think all Toshiba Satellite laptops with Windows Vista may run into a similar problem.

The built-in webcam stopped working at some point. I’m not sure when, because I don’t use it frequently. It probably happened after a Windows update.

Going back using Windows restore point did not fix it. When I enable the camera I get an error message to “Please turn on the Camera”. Unfortunately there is no control to do that. Doing an internet search shows many users get the same error. The recommended solution is generally to reinstall the driver. Doing that brings a new error message that Windows cannot install the driver. So it’s catch-22.

Toshiba has no support. They refer all to Microsoft.

End result is total loss of use of the web cam. I have wasted about 10 hours trying to fix this with no success.

Otherwise, a nice machine, but I would never buy it again. This is why Apple is a better integrated solution.

Toshiba has poor warranty
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
The computer works great

But the warranty is worthless.

Not covering the broken LCD screen and/or visable outside covers/plastic or powersupply is common. But Toshiba has wording (they donot share with you beyoned the small print) that allowes them to not cover internal brakage. Our $249 extanded on site 3 year warranty purchase proved worthless when the internal power connector got loose. At the Toshiba dealer site they wanted $425 to fix it. A power connector.

If you feel this is ‘fair and customery” buy Toshiba. Otherwise go with Dell or Panasonic.

Words cannot express….
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Words cannot express the love I have for my new laptop. I finally got rid of my old cluncky desktop and this 17 inch laptop is the perfect substitute. Love the numbers keyboard to the right (great for working in spreadsheets). Windows Vista allows for multiple users so all my settings and preferences remain, even after others have used the laptop. I have an account for a guest and for my husband. There are not enough good things I can say. The screen size is great and it’s surprisingly light weight. It’s extremely fast very quite. I highly recommend it to anyone! Vista is very different, but I’m smart and after a few hours, I got the hang of it. You will too.

So far so good

We have had this computer for 4 months and don’t have any complaints so far. Love the 17 inch monitor and multiple USB ports. It did not come with any sort of recovery cd’s, so hopefully we will never need them. It was difficult for me to find a bag that I liked in my price range but I did find a Targus one that works well.

Enough horsepower to drive a truck.

I have a Toshiba Satellite M35X-S149 for five years now, and I never had any hardware problems with it. I figured it was time for a backup laptop. I found the Toshiba Satellite L355-S7902, and it has all the features and functionality that I want in a laptop. I reformatted and partitioned the 320GB hard drive to dual boot with Windows Vista and Windows XP Professional Edition Service Pack 3. The laptop is stable, and the picture quality is so much clearer and brighter than the M35X. I also like the built in camera option. Overall, I am very satisfied with this laptop. I recommend this laptop to everybody.

Love It
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I did a lot of research before buying this. I looked at a lot of different options and based on other peoples reviews decided Toshiba was the way to go. I bought it from Amazon because in the past I have had exceptionally good luck with their customer service (no, they are not paying me) :) .

It seemed that customer service was the biggest issue others had with their laptop which I why I went the Amazon route.

The laptop itself is easy to use, very comfortable to use and has a great screen. I have only used it a couple of times, but I am loving it so far.

About as good as $600 will get!
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
About as good as it gets. I have another Toshiba laptop too-faster and smaller but this model is a great replacement for that antique desktop. Most mere mortals will find all the whiz bang we need in this beautiful machine. Incredible display. Nice enough larger sized keyboard. It has goofy Vista quirks but they will soon be replaced. Another solid Toshiba with fine ergonomics. Unless you have advanced or complex projects this laptop is all t you or the family need. Of course it IS larger and heavier than the 15″ machines but you can still pack it. The small Toshiba I bought in 1995 for $3000 still works just fine-the way it did all those years without a pause.

So why spend money on a new name when you can buy a name millions of us trust. This is our fourth one.

Disappointed
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
My computer crashed the first day I got it. It gets really hot, fast. I don’t see that happening with the Dell or the HP laptops in this house.

I must agree with one reviewer who mentioned that Vista seems incompatable with this computer. I removed the heavy power draining virus program it came with and purchased ESET Node 32 which is a light fast and effective virus protection. I also purchased and installed RegCure registry cleaner seems to help, but still this is a troublesome product I would not buy again. For about the same price my daughter got a stay cool HP with built in video camera. The 17″ would be nice if the computer didn’t require an inconvenient cooling pad.

So far so good

Short out of the box review. Comes with instructions to get W7. Make sure your hands are clean cause it’s a finger print magnet. I have problems with my eyes with bright shiny computer screens. All you have to do is adjust the settings. I put on the highest setting and turned the brightness down halfway. I usually don’t have lights on so this works at home. There is no problem with the computer being extra bright; no worries. I have a DVD playing and really get the speaker love. Maybe its the DVD. I’ll play around with it some. This is a desktop replacement so I have all the extras and will just hook up my speakers at home. I don’t have any specific requirements except keypad and larger screen. Seems a good compromise with size and portability. All in all this model is a good value.

Excellent choice for the price
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Good: Price – bought it from Office Depot for $499. Fast enough, not for gamers, though. Very, very quiet. Easy to use, good memory and HD size, CPU for the price. Full size keypad. Outstanding quality of the screen. Excellent replacement for desktop.

Cons: Weight, battery life, portable enough to move it @ home, however, not for frequent fliers.

Overall, strongly recommended for quality vs the price.

awesome laptop
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
What a delightful experience! Excellent response, almost immediate. Great software and a lot of it. Only had to get an external mouse since the touch pad mouse was so sensitive the curser tended to wander. The new price made this a best buy. And the Amazon product description was complete and accurate.

Excellent laptop
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is a great computer. I am a college student and I needed a laptop to suit my needs. And this one is perfect! I love the keyboard and the screen is nice and big, which that was one of the top features that caught my eye. It is heavy, but personally, I don’t mind it because I don’t take it with me other than to my dads, moms and boyfriends place. It has a lot of awesome features such as a built in web cam and it burns and writes cd/dvd. This laptop is great for typing, I never liked the cramped keyboards with small screens. I went to a local retailer before purchasing this laptop, and he kept referring me to the smaller ones, but this one is so convenient and the price is excellent for all that you get with it! My boyfriend is a big computer wiz and he was nearly jealous when I picked this one out on my own, haha. Now he’s going to get the same one. Total five stars with this one! The ONLY downfall is since it has such a large screen, the battery only lasts a little over 2 hours.

failed after 1 week
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
One week after I received this model, I was unable to boot the machine in normal mode. I was also unable to get the machine to reach a system restore point from the safe mode. I have no option but to restore it to the factory settings which will lose all the information I have entered in the first week. I understand the value of regularly doing backups but I guess will have to do a daily back up due to the fickle nature of this machine. What a disappointment…………

Just the one I wanted!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought this computer to replace a desk top at home. I bought it for the larger screen and the number pad. It is heavier than my work laptop, but I am not using it to travel with. I’ve had it for 2 months now and so far it’s been perfect.
