Waste of Time…Buy a PS3
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Why would anyone see the value in purchasing an XBOX:

You can’t upgrade the hard drive…most XBOX consoles don’t come with hard drives.

There is no built in wi-fi…it will cost you $99.

You must pay for online service if you don’t want to get bombarded with ads…it will cost you $50 annually.

You can’t watch high definition blu-ray movies on it.

The games are limited to the size of a DVD at 9gb…the PS3 can store 50gb on the blu-ray disc.

The controllers are infrared…ancient technology and takes batteries….it will cost you to constantly replace the batteries.

The Jasper is still plagued by the constant failure of the RROD…plan on sending your unit in for constant repairs/replacements…the XBOX has overt a 50% failure rate.

For $299 you are getting ripped off…..you are paying for far less features….It’s like you’re paying them to rip you off, you might as well buy them the Vaseline while you’re at it.

BUY A PS3 INSTEAD…and thank everyone who told you too.

You’ll get FREE Blu-Ray capabilities right out of the box.

Upgrade the hard drive to any size you like…I put a 500gb in mine.

The controllers are much better and actually fit in your hands AND you don’t have to replace the internal batteries.

The controllers and all other accessories communicate via blue-tooth….MODERN technology.

FREE online gaming with NO ADS.

FREE wifi capabilities right out of the box.

The first party games are leaps and bounds better than anything the XBOX can produce because the developers aren’t limited by the older DVD technology.

The PS3 was built for the future…you won’t have to buy another console years down the road.

I’ve found so much value in the PS3…..I’ve bought two…one for the bedroom….one for the living room.

If you make the mistake and buy an XBOX you CAN’T play Uncharted, Uncharted 2, Little Big Planet, Metal Gear Solid, Eye Pet, God of War, Gran Turismo, Heavenly Sword, Heavy Rain, Agent, Infamous, Katamari Forever, Killzone, MAG, Socom, Motorstorm, ninja Gaiden Sigma, Ratchet & Clank, Resistance, Twisted Metal, Warhawk, AND numerous other exclusives to the PS3.

Microsoft skimps on it’s customers.

Having previously owned an Xbox 360 elite when they were first released; I was severely disappointed with the lack of accessories that came with Microsoft’s latest edition of the 360 elite. For one, the first generation xbox 360 elite box included: an HDMI cable, component a/v cables, and an extra long(9ft+) Ethernet cable. This packaged console only comes with standard a/v cables, the system, a controller, wired headset, a 3ft Ethernet cable, and the power brick/power cable. Am I being nitpicky? probably, but the accessories that came with the Elite, I felt, where necessary accessories for Xbox Elite owners.

Caution: elite no longer has component cable OR optical adapter included.
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I really like the xbox 360, other than the 3 ring of death issues but want to increase my drive space then decided to upgrade to the elite console and let the kids have the pro in the living room. No need to go into details about what the system does so here are my gripes… 1) no transfer cable included… if you buy the 120g drive you get the transfer cable but you can’t get the cable for free no longer… at one time M$ would send you one for free. 2) You no longer get the Component cable that has your optical connector, you get the cheaper Composite cable. Now if you want optical sound you have to buy the component cable OR the optical adapter. Starting to think I should have bought the PS3 slim. Thanks Micro$oft.

Great system!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Just bought this console even though I already have a perfectly working Xbox 360. I’m going to give that one to my brother. I still have one of the original Xbox 360s (I bought it a month after it came out) so it doesn’t have an HDMI port. With the new Jasper design, the Elite is more quiet and the power supply is much smaller. This is a great machine with probably the best games around for my age group (late 20s).

Be warned to those who never owned a Xbox 360

To start the 360 is an incredible machine that has many problems that people can avoid. For one of them is to always place supporters at the botttom of the console in the middle with out bolcking the ventilation system in which is one of the main reasons most people may expeiernce the Red Ring Of Death. i had my Xbox for 3 years and still runs like new with the help of my supporters i place at the bottom of the console. You can put any kind of supporter at the bottom it really dosent matter what it is, as long as it dosent block the ventiltion it ill run great.

Ah the InFamous 360! You either love it or hate it. Me? It’s more complicated. I’m a gamer. Love video games. I’m a PC gamer, a Nintendo DS gamer, a PS3 gamer and for a short while there I was a 360 gamer. I’m the type of gamer who prefers to stay out of immature fanboy flame wars and just buy all the consoles once I can afford to, usually after the first wave of price drops or if enticed by a rather savory bundle deal.

Shortly after the launch of the 360, and once reports of mass failures started surfacing, I made a vow to myself that until Microsoft stepped up the quality of their product I was just gonna have to steer clear. This consumer prides himself on not buying electronics most known for, well, breaking. I bought a PS3 instead and have been enjoying it.

Then something happened. I played the PC port of Gears of War which is a video game franchise exclusive to the 360 and Microsoft Windows based PC’s (the very fact that I do a lot of gaming on windows proves I’m not entirely against Microsoft – I love Windows!). It blew me away and I had to play Gears 2 ASAP. I couldn’t wait for the PC port to be developed. That and all my friends, who happen to play the 360 and not the PS3 as the 360 is a vastly more popular product, had been pressuring me into buying one for months, but I always refused due to its known failure rate.

But I couldn’t wait to play gears 2 (awesome game btw) so I finally plunked down my hard-earned cash for a 360 elite a few months ago. I figured I’d be safe. I keep my consoles in their own well ventilated areas in my entertainment center and turn them off when I feel like they are getting too warm. I figured I’d be okay and that, with a little luck, my 360 would last. I was dead wrong. Not even 5 full months passed and I fired up my 360 to the dreaded red rings of death. Disappointing? For sure. Surprised? Not on your life.

You see, Microsoft knowingly and intentionally manufactures these things with poor hardware, for the sake of a lower price tag, making them excessively prone to failure, and sadly, people who buy multiple 360′s are only enabling Microsoft to do so for future generations of xbox consoles. And with so many apathetic consumers out there so unwisely voting with their wallets in this way, don’t expect a well built microsoft console any time soon.

To be fair, I know some people who bought this thing on launch day and it still works. Actually I know one person who fits that description, and he’s not a “hardcore gamer.” But you marathon gamers, the ones playing 3-4 hours straight during weekdays and logging some impressive marathons during the weekend, you have a 50+% of kissing your sweet 360 goodbye at any time. But who knows, you could get lucky?

Over the years I’ve owned a dozen video game consoles, from the colecovision to the sega saturn, and yes even the original XBOX and NONE of them ever broke once, after years of play and hundreds of hours of useage. The 360 IS undeniably the worst made console of all time, and quite conceivably the junkiest consumer electronic ever mass produced. I’m not trying to start a flame war but just do the research. (as if you need to at this point in the system’s life cycle)

Consumer electronics should not fail above 3-5%. 50%? Simply outrageous. Shame on you, Microsoft.

So just weigh the pros and cons. Both the PS3 and 360 are great systems when they work. They both have great user interfaces, great exclusive games and great controllers and, now, great prices. It’s just that, in my experience, one broke after 5 months of normal usage while the other, my faithful PS3, has been going strong for over two years as not only a gaming machine, but also my primary blu ray movie player, something the 360 can’t ever dream to achieve. Keep in mind with the 360 you have to pay to play online and, unless you like dragging ethernet cables all around your living room, you’re going to cough up even more money to play wirelessly as microsoft would prefer to charge $100 for their wireless adapter (an insulting rip off, especially to a PC savvy guy who knows that a comparable non microsoft adapter costs fractions less) than give their customers the convenience of including wifi right out of the box.

One company gives you more value and free online gaming, and the other would seemingly prefer to nickel and dime you with online subscriptions, expensive accessories and the cost (and downtime) that occur every time you mail in your broken 360 for repairs. You make the call.

You will certainly use your warranty.
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I bought one and two weeks later the power supply failed. Microsoft sent a new power supply within a week. A while later I got the RROD. Microsoft sent me a cardboard coffin and about three weeks later I received someone else’s broken 360. I’m guessing they couldn’t fix mine or they just send out fixed ones to whoever is next in line. Then finally about a month after receiving that 360 the disk tray just stays open. So now I can’t play games that are disk based. To have it fixed again it will cost me $99. Don’t get me wrong the 360 is a nice video game machine, but so is my N64, Sega Genesis, PS1, PS2, original XBOX, PSP, and PS3. All of which still work and have never broken. Like many people I will probable buy a new one because it would be silly to fix one for $100 when you could buy a new one with a fresh warranty for $200. But Microsoft also knew what they were doing when they set the repair price point. As long as there are good multi platform games and Sony keeps pumping out good games it will be a while before I buy another 360.

New, But Broken / Defective / 3 Rings of Death
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Bought new, but disappointed. Returning to Amazon, but will have about $6 deducted from refund for Return Shipping.

Heard about the problems, never expected to experience it on New product. Microsoft still not taking their gaming product seriously. I will never never buy another Xbox. This experience reinforced my faith in my 2006 PS3.

MS nickel and dime you to death by selling standard items from the PS3 for extra cash and cannot faithfully produce a quality console.

This is such a corporate mindset of profits first and customers____LAST.Xbox 360 Elite

Great Games, Unreliable Hardware
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I purchased an Xbox 360 Elite back in June 2007. Since then I have gone through many systems – meaning that I’ve had the 360 die on me many times.

The Red Ring of Death, for those who don’t know, is an extremely common defect with this system in which it overheats and/or malfunctions. Luckily I had the 2 year replacement warranty from Best Buy for the first time that my system died on me. However, the warranty had expired by the time my system died on me a second time – so my other option was to send it in to Microsoft for it to be refurbished. I had heard that this usually only results in a temporary “band-aid” fix, and that seems to be correct. My refurbished system only lasted a couple of weeks before dying on me, again.

If I was reading a review like this on any product, I would assume that it’s either a problem that only a small minority of customers experience, or that the reviewer takes poor care of his/her console. This is not the case with the Xbox 360. I take great care of all of my video game consoles, and millions of others have had the same experience as me with this particular console.

It’s a great mystery to me why anyone would want to support this faulty product. Sure, it has terrific games – but what good are games if you can’t play them? It’s a shame. If you’re a serious gamer like myself, you like to be able to play all of the games that you wish. However, I cannot continue to support this console.

Luckily, all of the games that I enjoyed on the 360 are also available for the PS3, PC, and even the Wii. The aforementioned are much better alternatives with reliable hardware, and free online multiplayer (unlike the 360 which charges a yearly fee). Plus, the other consoles have far more games that are exclusive – as opposed to the 360 library, which is mostly made up of multiplatform games.

Don’t support the Xbox 360. By doing so you will send a message to all manufacturers that it is not okay to mass produce a faulty product and expect there not to be any consequences.

Unreliable
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
The failure rate for this console is probably the highest in the history of video games. They break down far too often, scratch and laser burn your discs, and requires AA batteries for its included controller. Additionally, you have to pay a monthly fee to play online, even though it advertises that online is free on the box.
