Noisy, Noisy and Noisy
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
When I read others’ reviews that mentioned the noise problem I thought they probably got defective piece or may be they are overly critical because they were only a few. I was wrong, and this thing makes VERY LOUD noise. Amazon was very good and promptly sent me the replacement but the second one is also very noisy. Its so loud that it ruins the fun of watching movies in home theater. I don’t know how others who gave it 5 stars are able to bear with the noise. I’m not sure if its the fan or the disk spinning but I’m sure its going back to store. Its a shame, Sony didn’t bother to address a basic and very obvious problem.

The browser looked good at first, but it makes the system hang sometimes. It also wouldn’t play video on some news sites. Once the resolution is set for 1080p, the font size on the browser gets too small and there’s no way to increase the font size or zoom in.

When I got the second one, I tested it before and after the system upgrade (to 3.01) with no improvement to any of the problems I encountered.

Get the PS3 Phat or wait 6 months, you’ll be glad you did.

So I bought the PS3 Slim the day it came out. I was totally looking forward to it. I finally got it, unpacked it, started setting it up, I was like a kid again. Downloaded Fat Princess, downloaded some demos, tried a few of them out and popped in Valkyria Chronicles, had some fun with all of those. Everything was going great, then I decided to try the Bluray player.

Watched about 30min and the movie stops playing, tried to play it again and i started to hear very strange noises from the disc drive. Lots of clicks and awkward disc spinning sounds immediately stop it and eject it. Disc looks fine, pop it back in try again, and the disc fails to play and I receive a error screen some 800— number (googled it and it’s about BD’s not playing). Tried about 3 other BD’s and I get the same problems. I haven’t heard of other people getting this exact problem though but I guess it has to be that cheaper and slower BD player.

Amazon ships me a new PS3 Slim, and guess what same problems. I’m most likely gonna try for the third times the charm route or just get a refund. So if I were you I’d stay clear away from the PS3 Slim and get a PS3 80GB or 160GB model. The older models have more features and are time tested with great reliability and since the price drop they are in line as the PS3 slim in affordability.

Blu Ray and Games, I loves it
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I got this so I could play Little Big Planet and watch Blu-Ray. It’s small (fits in my entertainment furniture easily), and it doesn’t seem to run really hot or anything, which is good. It is fun. I loves it. Also can play really pretty high-def games, like the Pixel Junk games, on it. I don’t own any older PlayStation games, so the backwards compatibility issues with the Slim don’t affect me. I think it’s a good choice for a “first PlayStation.”

Love my PS3!!!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought my ps3 last week and have been enjoying it ever since. I’ve always been a fan of the Playstation ever since the first one was released in 1994 I believe. So far I’ve not found one thing this baby can’t do, except play ps2 games which I was already aware of that. I love how it doubles as a blu-ray player, and web browser. If your looking into buying a newer system look no futher then the PS3. Some other reviews are saying that it gets hot and and some are saying its loud, I don’t know if there just hearing things but my system has not been loud at all, far as it getting hot, it does get warm after a few hours playing it, but really nothing to worry about.

review from a 60GB Phat owner who bought the 120GB Slim
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought the Playstation 3 60GB the day it came out in November 2006. I’ve been a happy owner of this system since.

When I first read/learned about the new PS3 Slim, I didn’t pay much attention to this system since I already owned a Playstation 3.

Also I thought it looked a little ugly from looking at the pictures.

But 2 weeks ago, I was able to get a great deal on the Slim so I decided to give it a try.

Why?

1. I never played a PS2 game on my 60GB Phat

2. My 60GB Phat gets a little noisy when heating up (this is normal)and emist a lot of heat.

3. I can sell my used 60GB for the same price as the new Slim.

After receiving the Slim a few days ago and using it during the weekend, here are my impressions:

- it look way better than in the pictures.

- this thing is DEAD SILENT (compared to my 60GB). Even after playing games for few hours, I still can’t hear the fans from my couch around 12ft away(with volume on mute)

- DS3 controller that came with the system is lighter than my older DS3 controller.

So in conclusion, I’m VERY happy with this system so far and I 100% recommend it to anyone who want a next gen console. For $299 you are getting one heck of a deal.

Plus, with a tons of amazing games already released and coming up right around the corner (Uncharted 2 being the next one), there are no reasons not to buy this PS3.

Great Gaming/Entertainment Platform
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
First, NO RED RING OF DEATH!!!! A HUGE PLUS.

The PS3 slim is much quieter than the original form factor PS3, it runs much cooler and has a sleeker design. With triple A titles like Uncharted 2 coming out October the 13th, this is the way to go for gamers who want a hassle free complete entertainment system with less than 10% hardware failure rate (Xbox360 after several years is still has over 40% failure rate).

Great system

it’s nice to have a smaller and powerfull PS3 and the only con could be the no backwards playback for good ol’ PS2 Games.

other than that is the best PS system.

This thing is so cool, I may not even plug it in. I’m just going to place it on top of my AV cabinet and stare at it in awe for a few days.

Great Console Fair price
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
for 299 you get a great game device with a huge game catalog also you get a blue ray player which is the new video format to replace the dvd as you all know you great also a great HD device to see the pictures or Videos in HD from your ipod or digital camera and PLUS without the awful technical issues that make you be afraid of playing or enjoying your invesment the only thing that sucks is that it comes only with a ship A/V cable so you can’t enjoying HD from day 1 but those cable are really ship right here on amazon [...] bucks and that’s it. also if you compare this PS3 slim with the fat one is smaller and colder it gets a little hot when you play but is only in the back part where hot air comes out which is good (because is taking out hot air from inside) and normal

from the other hand the next months will be full of great PS3 exclusives such as:

- God of war III

- Gran Turismo 5

- Killzone 2

- Uncharted “among thieves”

- Resistance 2

and well others that i can’t remember at this time

so my advice BUY IT you won’t regret it really gives you something good and RELIABLE for your money

PS/3 Slim

I use it for a blu-ray player and it does a great job. Quick Blu-ray live updates and easy to use, though not plug and play as the Blu-ray DVD ability is not is primary function by design. Very happy with the purchase.

Could’ve been great.

There is doubt about it that the PS3 is a great system. Well I let me define great for those thinking about buying one. There are 3 problems that I’ve came across on the PS3 Slim that each take away 1 star because the problem is either incredibly annoying or just plain stupid.

Problem 1: This PS3 Slim comes stripped of PS2 compatibility. You cannot play any PS2 games on it at all, so for the people who value space, well you need to keep your PS2 in commission because you’re still going to need it.

Problem 2: The original PS3′s came with Linux support, that is now gone.

Problem 3: I’ve bought 6 or so games for this PS3 since I’ve had it and they love to lag. For example in GTAIV when you get a wanted level of 3 or higher you’ll experience low FPS (5-10), it’s NOT just GTAIV either, Oblivion lags regularly, as does MGS4. Assassins Creed isn’t bad with lag, as a matter of fact I can’t tell anyone that I’ve experienced any lag in AC. However the previous games (which are the PS3s best games) are very laggy and even-though some games have patches the lag is still NOT fixed.

Now that that is over with the PS3 Slim does have a few bonuses:

The controllers are bluetooth, and use lI for the battery. So they’re rechargeable. The charge time lasts quite awhile (my experience 20-30 hours).

Good price for a good product!

Very good blue-ray player, astonish high definition and easy-to-use operating system. The only problem is that it doesn’t come with bi-volt (120/240) transformer.
