Dualshock – Yes
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’m sure everything that could be said about this controller has been said in the previous reviews.

I like the weight and feel better than the non-vibrating controllers. I would not buy non Sony controllers – these things take a beating and go forever.

who has a PS3 needs this joystick is simply a necessity, very good and accurate and brings comfort to your hands when you’re playing.

Dual Shock Controller Review

This is the standard old Play Station style controller with a rumble pack. It has the added feature of a motion sensor system in it.

So far I have not had any games that take advantage of the motion sensor.

The battery life on both of the controllers I have is abhorrent. They will die off with only 2-3 hours of solid use or if you don’t put them on the charger they will be dead over night. Since one of them came with my system and the other I bought 3 months later I would be left to believe this is simply a bad design instead of a bad batch of controllers.

Over all the controller does what it is supposed to but for the common price if 59$ I would not buy one. I found one here on amazon for a nice price and it came a with wireless guitar so Amazon made it worth purchasing a second one.

Good controller, but not perfect
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
First of all I own 2 of the dualshock controllers. One of them I just had replaced through a warranty. The controller works well, it gives good tactile feedback and for me personally, the size is just right. The only gripe I have with these controllers is that they aren’t exactly durable.

I have never had to replace any controllers for ANY game system I have ever owned. The PS3 controllers cannot stand up to the same use as controllers of the past. These are definitely NOT made to the same standards as controllers of the past.

Some examples of issue I’ve had with my PS3 controllers (dualshock and regular six axis):

-L2 and R2 button springs stop working

-the sticks become too loose or don’t center properly

-the stick movement becomes too stiff (opposite of the above)

I have owned 8 PS3 controllers overall and experienced issues with 4 of them. I love the controllers but I don’t buy them without warranties anymore.

Great controller

I got what I paid for…a good controller at a decent price. I don’t necessarily need the dualshock feature, but it was only $5 more. After charging it lasted many hours. Don’t buy that USB plugin bull-honkey. I always suggest name brand when it comes to stuff like this. Keep it simple, stupid!

Rumbles as expected
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Adjusted to the controller movements quickly and now I don’t even notice. Still in good working condition after 3 months of daily play. Not much else to say – all works smoothly – the buttons, the sticks, and the vibrating. It’s taken a hard knock or two falling to the floor and hasn’t been affected – a definite plus.

Great controller

This is one of the best gaming controllers their is. It’s light, easy to grip, and best of all it comes with an internal rechargeable battery. Only downside has nothing to do with the controller but the cord that comes with it is usually pretty short.

You Need Two

Unless you have no friends, you need two. So just buy one with the PS3.

I am a huge fan of the playstation controllers, they are very comfortable, and after 10+ years of owning all the playstation models nothing beats the familiarity of a great controller.

What’s with the triggers on the shoulder buttons?
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
The Playstation controller has always been a favorite of mine as it kept with the traditional SNES controller format, while adding new functionality of additional buttons and the analog sticks. While I’m not too crazy about the SIXAXIS or the analog buttons that came about during the PS2 area (mostly since almost NO ONE used them), it was a standard controller that was very comfortable to me.

Right now I think the Playstation Dual Shock series has the best d-pad out there right now. The buttons don’t stick out enough and each direction is separated, making it easier to make sure you’re going in the direction you want to, not accidentally going in a random diagonal. Compare to the horrible X-Box and Dreamcast d-pads, which made playing fighting games or directional sensitive ones so very painful. The addition of the built-in Bluetooth wireless with the induction of the PS3 is the icing on the cake with this controller.

Now, the biggest problem with this control is the “triggers” for the L2 and R2 shoulder buttons. What’s the deal with this? It doesn’t make using a gun in a game more real, nor does it make playing the game any more efficient. In fact, it actually reduces reaction ability as it actually takes effort to push the button down, so in a situation (i.e. a fighting game) where you need to hit many buttons quickly, the amount of pressure and time it takes (although very minimal) actually breaks up the flow one might have when playing. And, with the lack of analog button support, you may not even be pressing the button if you’re only putting a little pressure on it. This comes back and bites you in the add two fold since it takes a bit more pressure to keep the whole thing down, and letting up just a bit of pressure causes the button to not be active any longer (I can’t even count how many times I got killed in Devil Summoner 2 because I wasn’t putting my guard up when I was clearly pushing down on R2). Ever since Trigger style buttons were implemented from the SEGA Saturn on, this has been one of the most confusing and frustrating additions to a standard controller I’ve seen.

I still think this is the best controller that Sony has put out because of the wireless support and the familiar set-up, which trumps the horrible trigger shoulder buttons that this controller sports and makes it my current second favorite controller of this generation (next to the Wii-mote and Nunchuck set-up). I can’t ever give this controller a full five stars, however, unless they remove those god-awful triggers or someone releases a controller mod that makes them like the original PS1/Dual Shock style shoulder buttons.

It’s important to note, though, that you can probably spend a little less money by getting the original SIXAXIS controller without rumble in it, assuming you can live without the rumble. I personally can, but the added weight of the Dual Shock rumble motors actually gives the controller a little bit of weight and makes the controller feel a little more comfortable.

PS3 Dualshock controller review
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I have purchased three of these controllers and something has gone wrong with each of them. I returned one to Sony and they sent me a controller that malfunctioned within two weeks. The non-DualShock PS3 controller was much more durable. This controller has been a dissapointment. I think that I will buy a generic controller next time. At least if that one breaks, I wont be out of [...] These are the XBOX 360 of controllers. Beware!

Made of Cheap material
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
The American version of this controller is horrible, buy the Japanese controller and you will see that its made with completely different material that is much more stable and stronger, anyone who has both, can open them up and see the difference, i bought one of these and it didn’t last more than one month, while my other Japanese joystick is still working for more than one year

It’s authentic Dualshock3…
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Solid Dualshock3 controller. Identical to the controller with the console — just blue-er.

Now, do I change the console color to match the new controller? Probably not, but I could.

Sony’s same build quality… great stuff.
