Perfect choice for a second Windows Vista machine.
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is a perfect choice in case you need Windows Vista second machine for student, etc. My daughter as a student uses it a lot for Internet research downloads, e-mail, word-processing, and etc. My wife is happy with Internet research, e-mail, word-processing for teaching materials. Windows Vista are working very stable with good performance. Microsoft Office has good performance and no problems.
Reinstallation of software from main machine was not very tricky. This machine is coming with Norton Internet security latest version pre installed. On my main machine I have Norton 2006. It was easy to follow the instruction and replace new version of Norton Internet Security with needed 2006. One trick to reinstall Adobe Photoshop CS2. After installation I have problem to register the software. The error message was like you don't have administrative rights. The solution is posted on Adobe web site. You must open the Windows explorer. Then go to your Adobe "exe" file. Open file properties panel and select the check box - open as administrator. After this is done you will be able to register your software. For any specific errors with adobe - their web site is very helpful. If using screen calibrator hardware device make sure cable will reach our machine. I placed my desktop on the floor. The cable from "Huey" was short to rich machine's USB2. Instead I'm using the USB2 located on front panel of my printer.

Affordable Deal!
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
My computer crashed and I needed a new one quick. While not a fan of vista this computer with Vista Home Premium exceeded my expectations. It is fast and vista was easy to learn. I like the case design and having microphone and headphone jacks in the front are much easier to use then the ones I had in the back. I do miss the ablity to have slots for my camera disks built into my computer. With the anouncement of windows 7 be available I was excited, but dissapointed I had missed the cutoff for a free version, by purchasing this before their start deadline. Other then that this is a great computer for the price.

Great Desktop Computer
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought this computer for my daughter to replace an E-machine bought last year that turned out to be a piece of junk. For the three months that we have had it, it has worked perfectly for us. Also at $369, the price was right. I would strongly recommend it, or similar Compaq products, assuming they work as well as this one.

A tremendous buy!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I was looking for a new PC for my mate. Previously she had my old one and it is about 8 years old and had been upgraded to the max. I bought the compaq Presario SR5710F for under $350. It's 3gb RAM and 260gb hard drive make it more than adequate for her needs. Plus it's made by HP. HP and I go way back. I'll never buy another brand as long as I can get an HP. The real topper for this deal is I used my Amazon store card and got the PC and the monitor interest free for 6 months. Strictly an outstanding PC at a great price with terrific terms. Need I say more?

I liked it.
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I have basic needs on a PC: internet, word processing, video and pictures. This computer is fast and does a fine job for my needs. Please realize that it only comes with a 60-day free trial of Microsoft Office. If you want Office, you'll need to purchase it separately.

It likes to go to sleep in the middle of things
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
It is an acceptional computer, good with streaming video and have 15 or more windows open with 5 or more programs and no issues. the only problem is that it chooses to sleep in the middle of me doing something, still using keyboard and mouse moving. it does not wake up unless I push the power button sometimes two or three times.

No Stars
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I've had this computer for about six months now and thoroughly hate it. This is my 10th year for buying Compaq computers and this is by far one of the slowest processors I have ever used. They make slower ones because I bought one of those also. I tried to buy a card reader for it through Compaq and they told me that they would not sell me one even though the computer has the slot for it. I am really disappointed in everything about this unit and will replace as soon as I can. Most of my computer purchases last for 3 to 4 years. This one will not make a year. I got what I paid for and less. Another feature is that I randomly get an update and the computer shuts itself down with out the option of saving what I was working on. Sweet.

HP has no suport
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
No support, October 9, 2009
By Stan Tomberg (Hendersonville, NC) - See all my reviews

On 1/01/09 I called customer service (that is what they call it). I told the tech my internal lightscribe drive would not burn label's. I am not a not a novice and I went through all the steps - uninstalling the drive and reinstalling the drive, etc. I told the the tech that my external lightscribe drive was working fine so it had to be the drive. He had me duplicate all the steps I Had already done and after 1:05 he said he would send me a new drive it was under warranty got my credit card info and he put me on hold. After 10 minutes (1:15 total time) I hung up.

I called back after I cooled down and got a tech who saw what was done, bur insisted to let him take over my PC. He assured me it take only 20 minutes and I agreed. An hour and 35 minutes later I told him just take of ordering the drive (it seems the first tech did not it. Hr agreed and then after being on hold for 5 minutes he told me the system was down and I would have to call back on 11/2/09.

Both techs had bad attitudes and treated me like a dummy. I wasted two hours and 40 minutes of being insulted and talked down to!

Price can not overcome lack of service

250 watt power supply
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
FYI-----250 watt power supply
In case you read other reviews and wanted to upgrade the video card. Some say they added the video but don't say if they upgraded the power supply. You might be wasting your time AND MONEY!!!!! Question to the other reviewer's, did you have to upgrade the power supply?

June 27, 2009 update: I'm adding an EVGA 7200GS PCI-E video card. Technical support @ EVGA said this card with 512 megs should work, even though the product box says it needs a 300 watt power supply. I'll update if anything bad happens! after I install it.

Update June 28, installed and works great, for dual monitor support.
