this product is very easy to use. when you are in a rural area the map is not accurate, but we did not purchase it with that in mind.

for a mid price unit, i think it is great.

I like the unit very much!

I used it for my second trip ever to New Orleans, LA. It was very helpful for finding my way around. When one knows exact addresses it is excellent for finding where you are going. My only complaint is that it shows my home address as being a block off from where I actually live. Not that I can’t find my house but it puts doubt in my mind about other addresses as well.

Horrible is all I can say!

I purchased the Garmin 265WT at a major warehouse and after getting it home I stood out in the middle of my driveway which has a clear and unobstructed view of the sky so I could obtain a signal. After 16 minutes the Garmin had acquired a signal and was up and running. At first I had to zoom into my city and when I noticed that a lot of street names were missing I decided to restart the unit and see if it would see the street next to my house. After turning it back on I noticed that now their were no streets displayed. I went into the settings and ensured that everything was okay because my Garmin didn’t even show the surrounding streets.

After regaining my composure I placed it in the cradle and took a drive towards the freeway and noticed that only the freeway numbers were showing up. I turned around and proceeded home to see if it was the old map that was causing a problem.

I returned home and obtained a free 2010 map update at the Garmin website. After 2 hours the new map was uploaded to my 265WT and after it restarted and the map came into view it was the same thing all over again. No STREET NAMES again. I am sure that my streets should be there so I drove to the city next to me and the same thing happened, no street names.

I also toyed with the QWERTY keyboard (WHICH IS TOO SMALL) and was typing in the wrong characters. WOW, I am so frustrated with this thing. The signal strength was also an issue and even in the perfect condition with a clear view of the sky this thing was only on 3 bars.

I had total faith when I read the reviews and now I am going to bring it back to the store for a MAGELLAN 1475T GPS.

I don’t know what happened to this Garmin GPS unit but I can tell you I won’t recommend it to anyone due to lack of reliability and horrible user interface.

****UPDATE****

I just got my Magellan 1475T and this acquired a strong signal in less than 15 seconds and was up and running in the cradle in less than a minute. I love the QWERTY keyboard as well as the predictive text that helps with the spelling of a city or state. It also has a killer database for AAA hotels, restaurants, and other great POI’s. Overall the Magellan 1475T blows away Garmin hands down.

Low cost GPS with Traffic
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Got this unit replace my Magellan Roadmate 700. The traffic i had thought was going to be helpful did not seem all that useful for local driving. On the Magellan i can set the GPS to show Parks and golf course name on the map but not on the Garmin. The search for satellite is pretty fast and directions and easy of use are very good. The bluetooth using the GPS speaker phone is not very good. the unit’s speaker does not handle well if it is on loud volume the voice will crack for sure. Other than speaker not well made and not able to show names on Parks the unit so far performs very well.

Another winner from Garmin

I loved my wife’s Garmin so much that I wanted my own (with updated maps). I have been working with computer tech and in the field for well over 20 years and have never come across a device that just worked like I did these Garmins. I could easily have given these guys 5 stars if for their method of updating the device – ridiculous! Just after purchasing, (Which I was buying because I wanted the latest maps possible, and the cost of getting new Maps was more than half the cost of just buying new – so I got myself one and figured I would update the maps.

For starters – I am not a Windows zealot (so strike one for me – I could not even get the device registered on their Windows only Activx Registration process – needed to have their support do it for me – Which they did without fail but it did take some time.

Even after that, could not download the insane 2+ gig update through their Windows only Activx based download process (come-on simple web based ftp, or any other means of multi-platform download available that have been around forever). I ended up giving up and had to use a computer at work that was Windows based.

There is no doubt that this device (and I am sure all of the Garmin devices) would be slam dunk purchase for all of humanity once they get their update process cleaned up. There is no way that there shold have been a 2+ gig download to update the maps – there has GOT to be a better way. And dump the single platform ActivX garbage – you should be able to access web sites, download data, register products from any OS (from BeOS – to Solaris) without any hindrance. And for that I gave then a 4 instead of a 5.

Great GPS, starts quickly, logical directions, easy to read!
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I bought this Garmin after having continuous problems with a cheaper Nextav GPS that caused nothing but frustration. I have very few complaints about my purchase and would recommend it to anyone. The touch screen is pretty responsive, although sometimes it takes a minute for the screen to catch up with everything you’ve selected….for example, you can type in the first three or four letters of a street, but it won’t show it on the screen each time, then suddenly it all populates. small issue…

The main gripe I have about this unit is that I have been unable to get the Bluetooth connection to work properly. Maybe i’m doing something wrong here, but BT is supposed to be relatively simple and I haven’t been pleased with this feature so far. Not that big a deal, but it was one of the selling points to me.

The maps looks great, the voice directions are natural-sounding and clear, and it always find a signal quickly. To me these are the most important features and I’m very pleased with my purchase decision.

Love the little gaget.I am not a map reader, so this really helps out in the cities.I’ve only had mine for a short time. The unit I have is 265W and its great.. Didn’t want or need all the other options. There have been one or two addresses it wouldn’t enter ot couldn’t find.I found it helpful that the speed limits changed on the garmin as soon as we passed the sign. Love it

WORTH IT
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought this GPS primarily for my first time drive from Michigan to Chicago (I’m from another state). Love the fast calculation of the

driving direction. It lead me to where I need to be in crazy, busy streets of Chicago.

One thing though, it didn’t say nothing about driving the highlighted route while I took a parralel highway. Fortunately, the highway I’m driving later joined the highlighted route.

Nevertheless, it is worth having one.

First time user and I like it. Did some research and found this one to be the best for what I needed. I like the fact that this has life time updates.

Good but not great
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
Mechanically the 265WT is a respectable unit, with an excellent screen and sound. Traffic info is reasonably accurate and the map despite a few errors generally provides correct data. My biggest disappointment is the apparent lack of any feature that allows one to set waypoints or otherwise direct the GPS to follow a particular route, as for a daily commute. Even if you tell it to select the quickest route the software frequently does not do so. This is particularly annoying when the preferred route is a longer one that utilizes freeways rather than city streets.

How did I ever live without it?
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I picked this up at Costco for $219.99 before a trip out west. It was invaluable for navigating to restaurants and hotels along the way. Even when I screwed up my driving directions, the Nuvi got me back on track. I will say that you sometimes have to fight against the route it wants (I68 vs. I70-Turnpike in western MD, PA, and WV). I also had it send me to Cinci instead of Dayton on the way home, but I knew better. Imperfections notwithstanding, this thing is great, especially at picking shortcut routes around cities while staying on interstate roads. That was a win-win. The computer voice is still a bit War Games but discernable. I never received any traffic info, even though I hit some major cities along I70, and I live in the DC metro area and have yet to receive any alerts. Not a big deal, but it would be nice to see. Of course, the traffic I’ve encountered since purchasing is probably “normal,” so perhaps I’ve yet to have traveled whilst an accident was still “active.”

Garmin Nuvi 265WT
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Purchased this unit at the beginning of October and updated the map two days ago. Presentation is very nice and language features are fun but it seems that the unit does not recognize some prominent points of interest (CostCo, Sam’s Club, etc.) that have been in place for several years here in Reno. Perhaps this is an operator oversight but it would seem that coverage of these places ought to be included. Aside from that, the unit operates smoothly and recalculates quickly when diversions from route are initiated.
