Using Garmin’s in over 20 Emergency Vehicles!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
We are using Garmin Nuvi’s (350′s and now a 255) in our ambulances and our command vehicles. They have given great service and Garmin is easy to update. I would only buy a Garmin!
A very good product

I have had this product for about two months and am completely satisfied. Since my vision is not the greatest I rely mostly on the audio directions.
Very Nice

I have had this little GPS for over a Month now and I must say this is a nice little unit. I also own two Magellan GPS units and I like this one just as well, if not better. I originally purchased one of these 255s for my son before he went off to college. I liked it so well I purchased another one to mount on my motorcycle. I used a Ram Mount kit and it all works perfectly. Very good buy!
The best affordable GPS

It has everything, Text to speech with good voice quality, 2010 map update free to download, receives signal & re-routes fast , sturdy built , reliable windshield mount. I received it brand new well packaged with in 4 days of ordering .Thanks amazon.

I picked this one out because I was used to the screen format on my parents’ GPS. I like how the top has an arrow to show you the direction of your next turn, the distance til the turn, and the name of the turn. It also gives you the speed limit, but it is not always right. This one has a few male and female voices to choose from, and it speaks the street names out loud.
It is pretty easy to figure out how to use the different features if you play around with it for a few minutes. You can program your home and favorite addresses to find them easily. You can also search for businesses near you, near your destination, or along the route. The businesses usually have a phone number in the GPS so you can call to reserve a hotel, etc. While you are driving, you will see a little car on the map to indicate where you are. You can press the green bar on the top to see future directions and the full map of your route. You can also zoom in and out on the map.
Usually the GPS finds a good route, but it does not know which routes have high traffic which makes them take longer than expected. You can get around this by setting a via point to direct the GPS in the direction you want it to go. Occasionally the route is confusing, usually when there are multiple turns in a row, but you will get where you’re going. You don’t have to worry about missing a turn because it will recalculate and put you back on track. There is a detour option that you can use if you come to a traffic jam or some other problem. So far I have not liked the detour route it gave me, but I don’t know if there was a better one because I was in an unfamiliar area. At least it got me back on track eventually. Usually it finds the satellite signal fast and rarely loses the signal. Overall, I like this GPS. It is very easy and helpful once you get used to it.

This is a small unit and pretty easy to use. I just wish you could set POI so they scroll along the road as you drive.
Great little GPS.

This is a very basic GPS, but for the price it does a very good job and I’ve had no major problems with it.
Garmin Nuvi 255 3.5 inch Navigator
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I purchased this item a couple of months ago and have used it several times since to guide me to certain destinations. It is very user-friendly and easy to understand. I still have not had an opportunity to use every feature yet but simply for finding where you’re going, it’s ideal. The specifications did not suggest that it came with the auto charger so I purchased one separately, only to find that it did come with one so I have to send the other one back.
We Love Our NUVIs !!!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
We just moved to Virginia from Upstate New York, and since both my husband and I have cars and do things separately as well as together, we both bought a Garmin NUVI 255. We absolutely love them!! There are so many great features on these little guys, and by “little”, I mean you can carry them in a purse and use them on the street as well as in the car (making them much more useful than a GPS permanently installed in a car)! NUVI speaks the street names and alerts you to the turning direction beforehand so you can easily be in the correct lane. You can search for all kinds of venues (shopping, restaurants, gas stations, etc. NUVI tells you what the speed limit is on highways and how fast you are going. You can avoid toll roads, U turns, etc. You can choose from different voices (we love “Jack”). I can’t say enough about our NUVIs; they are a great tool and the price is affordable. We take them everywhere (although I must say that after 3 months at our new home, we finally know our way around town without them)! But they are invaluable on a trip and we’d never travel without one!
Good product at a good price

Decent product at a decent price. Garmin is by far the best of the 3 GPS units I’ve tried. Wish I’d waited for the 255W but this one is fine. Does what it is supposed to do and does it well.
Great product sold with outdated maps
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I received a nuvi 255 from my family for Christmas last year. We have 4 nuvi’s in the family now and 2 are 255′s. I really like it but it is sold with maps that are a couple years old and in order to update them you have to pay a pretty steep price. Why isn’t it updated for free when you first purchase it so it at least starts out up to date? Where a bridge was built a few years back it shows me going over water and the bridge to one side of me or the other. Lots of roads that have been there for a while don’t show up either.
Good but…

it doesn’t like to make u-turns.
I bought this for my husband for a business trip to Canada. He is notorious for getting lost.
We tried it the first time to go to a familiar restaurant by our house. As we were approaching, we can see the restaurant on the left and we were getting ready to make a U-turn. But the GPS told us to make a right turn, a left and another left. It got us there eventually but I felt it was a waste of time (waiting for the light) and gas. Maybe we haven’t figured out the settings yet.
Other than that, it’s helpful. We used it to drive 7-1/2 hours to drop off our son to college. My husband likes it because it lists all the nearby restaurants.
Unnecessary option

When I bought the Garmin nuvi 255, Amazon asked me if I wished to purchase the Garmin vehicle power cable. Not knowing that a cable was included with the GPS, I bought it, as well as the dashboard mount. After receiving the GPS, I found that a vehicle power cable was included. Don’t buy the second one unless you need it.
Even after downloading the latest map from Garmin, I noticed errors in road information for my area.
Love it!

So far so good. My Garmin is just what I was looking for. I’m very pleased with this model. It is my first GPS and it does everything I need it to do. For the price, this is great!
