The Xbox 360 HDMI Cable provides gamers with separate audio and video connections via the included Audio Adapter. The Audio Adapter allows HDMI video to be routed to the HDTV with the audio routed SEPERATLY to the home speaker system. Without the Audio Adapter the video and audio signals are both carried by the HDMI cable. This means users without an HDMI receiver (new/costly) must listen to their Xbox 360 game and movie audio via their TV speakers. * One wire for both digital audio and video * Experience high definition movies and games at up to 1080p resolution * Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound output * Optical/RCA Audio Adapter included for non-HDMI supported stereo systems * 2 meter (6.5 feet) shielded cable more info

It is what it is – and that’s it!
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
This unit from the evil empire that is Microsoft is a simple product that does exactly what it says it does. It is not a converter for non-HDMI Xbox 360 units.

The HDMI cable is a standard HDMI cable that you can get from any old website for a lot cheaper. Almost ALL HDMI cables are gold plated and even if they aren’t, it’s still a digital connection and doesn’t matter. I work for a company that makes receivers and other audio/video equipment – believe me, spending $100 for an HDMI cable doesn’t make it THAT MUCH BETTER than a $6 cable from the web! Until more receivers and systems can handle the other options that HDMI will eventually provide, regular cables are fine.

Now that I’m off of that tangent, the audio connector is needed for those who don’t have HDMI receivers. Thus, you would only be able to hear the volume from the TV itself and most flat panel LCDs and Plasma displays don’t have great speakers. The dongle is good so that you could hook it up to a stereo or sound system via the analog cables or optical digital cable and hear games in their native surround sound. Though, with most A/V receivers, the audio is better through HDMI than optical or analog.

So, in short, if you don’t have a stereo receiver, get this unit. If you do, get yourself a regular HDMI cable from a discount website and you’ll be fine!

Dissappointed in Product
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I expected the HDMI cable to be specific for XBox 360 use.

I couldn’t use it due to the short length (approximately 6 ft.)

There are other HDMI cables available that are 1/3 the price that I ended up purchasing that I recommend.

Newer 360? Don’t get this
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
Does what it should, but not worth the money. If you have a newer 360 with the HDMI connection right below the audio/video connection, simply pry apart the plastic surrounding the audio/video connector that came with your 360 and plug back in. Take the 2 audio red/white and hook to your receiver, ignore the yellow. Buy a simple and cheap HDMI cable from Amazon and hook up to your HDTV. With the plastic gone, both will now fit easily, without needing this. Total cost for me yesterday was an HDMI cable for about $5.00 which included shipping. Works awesome.

Arrived on time, & it works.
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Not much to review here. It either works or it doesn’t, its just an adapter & an HDMI cable. Instead I’ll make a suggestion: Don’t pay full price for this thing. I got this for like $15 on here through Direct Deals. Sure, it shows up loosely placed in a black shipping bag out of the box, but do you really need the Xbox packaging? Do yourself a favor & save the money. You can use that extra cash to put towards an overpriced Xbox hard drive!

Oh, & just in case you’re confused about whats in here, its an HDMI cable & an audio adapter with both standard A/V & an optical cable input. I have the Logitech Z-5500 speakers & they don’t support HDMI, so I plug them in directly to the Xbox using this adapter plus an additional optical cable. (purchased seperately).

Hope that helps.

Deffinetely worth getting over the standard component cables, especially if you plan on running 5.1 dolby.

only bought it for the audio adapter.
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
only bought it for the audio adapter.

it does it’s job… you will need this if u HDMI display doesn’t have speakers or you want digital out (optical) from the xbox to connect to your 5.1 (or 2.1, or 7.1) system.

the HDMI cable is a typical hdmi cable. nothing special.

5 stars for the audio adapter.

-5 stars for microsoft for not putting digital out audio port on the xbox itself (like ps3) and making us buy this over priced thing.

This product fries your video card – 3 RRoD!!!
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
As soon as I hooked up my Xbox 360 to an official Xbox 360 HDMI AV cable, the console froze. After power cycling the unit, I started receiving the 3 flashing RRoD.

I know it isn’t the cables fault. It is Microsoft’s fault for installing faulty video cards in the Xbox 360!

works good, overpriced
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
The cable works as intended and has the audio dongle needed for optical toslink audio. But Microsoft is overcharging for this cable. You can pickup a compatible one on monoprice for 10% of this price.

The Only Audio Dongle Available if You Need It
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
If your sound system setup can simply read the digital audio through an HDMI cable, then you can buy and use any HDMI cable which should cost significantly less.

However, if you need to split digital audio separately from HDMI such as to a receiver that has only HDMI pass-through, then you need this dongle if you want to use HDMI for the video. This is the only cable that doesn’t block the HDMI port. It as a digital optical out on the dongle.

If you only need the RCA output, then I suggest you just plug the HDMI into your TV and then use the RCA out from your TV. But given reports of some problems with digital out from TV, you might not want to leave it to the TV to send the digital out as it might be PCM, not full Dolby/DTS even though the HDMI does it. Some setups detect or are set to send PCM through HDMI when connected to a TV that doesn’t have its own Dolby Digital or DTS decoder, which might explain why you end up with only PCM out.

So the dongle works perfectly. The HDMI cable works as best as I can tell. I am very happy with it. The price is steep, but it might be your only choice. So just try to find a deal.

Close but not quite what I expected. 360 HDMI Cable
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
First, let me say the Xbox 360 HDMI AV Cable that I purchased works flawlessly and is exactly what I needed to solve my AV needs. However, when I purchased it, it was listed as NEW, but is obviously a unit that had been returned to stock, the original packaging was held together with packing tape and the confirmation e-mail I received after the purchase listed it as a “returned item”. It works and works well but I thought I was purchasing something brand new; just something to consider. The second thing is the item came within the time frame given but that time frame was 3 weeks, it came in two. I purchased other items days after this item which arrived within 2-3 days of purchase and then I had to wait another full week before putting everything together because this item took so long to ship out and then make its way to me. Still, it was very good price and as I said, everything is working fine now. I would rate higher but the deception(?) on condition and length of time from purchase to receiving was disappointing.

Completely misleading, this doesn’t work on all XBoxes
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
If you have an XBox with an HDMI connector, you probably don’t need this product. If you have an XBox without a built-in HDMI connector, like I do, this product seems perfect but instead it is completely worthless.

See, Microsoft sells adaptors that go from an XBox to standard RCA A/V outlets. They’re fine. And they sell adaptors that go to S-Video. They’re fine. And they sell adaptors that go to component video. They’re fine. Those are all fine because they work on all XBoxes. This is the one that I really wanted, an adaptor that goes to an HDMI outlet, for my TV. It’s not fine. It sucks. It doesn’t work on either of my 2 XBoxes. And there is nothing in the description of this product that might give any hint of that. There ought to be a warning 5 feet high that says, “if you think you have an XBox that needs this, it won’t work!”

PrimeBigTime said it best when he said:

> Microsoft decided to place the HDMI port on the back of the [Xbox 360 with HDMI]

> so close to the other video/audio outputs that the dongle for the component video/audit

> actually BLOCKS the HDMI port. That disallows you from running an HDMI cable for video

> while using the shipped dongle for optical audio. The

> dongle you are buying simply extends your audio outputs so that you are not blocking your

> HDMI port. Simple, and stupid, because if they just redesigned their cables in the first place

> they wouldn’t need to sell this accessory.

>

> This is a ripoff because they package an HDMI cable with it. Most of us already have HDMI cables!

>

> Do yourself a favor and get the audio dongle from this package separately, which you can do

> on eBay for about $3.00. Yes, $3.00.

Expected a Miracle
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I’ve had my XBox 360 for about a year and a half now. I’ve been using the cables that came with the system (I think they’re called RCA cables???). All of my friends have told me to buy the HDMI cable, claiming I am losing quality in the picture. So I forked out the $35 bucks for this cable. Once I got the cable I expected better quality, but to tell you the truth, I couldn’t notice the difference. The only benefit I see with this cable is it’s just one cable as opposed to the three that come with the system and it has stereo output for surround sound systems. Long story short, if you like what you see with the cables that come with the system, don’t waste your money on this product.

It shows good on the tv. I’m glad my tv supports 1080p. Games look amazing. Only problem was that the package took a long time to get here.

Works but MS is just adding unnecessary expense
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
So, this cable should only be required if you need to use optical out or RCA audio outputs along with HDMI and don’t want to use the component cable hack that requires cutting (you can read about that online). So, you pay an extra $50 or so penalty to MS for those of us who want/need to use the optical audio out and still get a high quality image (HDMI).

The cable works just fine but 3 stars for the price and the fact that we need the cable in the first place.

Don’t be suckered into buying these!
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Hopefully since you are already shopping online for HDMI cables you know how inexpensive they really are. [...] sells them for a few bucks, and they are a digital product so in most cases signal degradation doesn’t happen. But just shop around here on Amazon and you can find cheaper HDMI cables. If you think you need this cable for the audio out option, you don’t, just break of the plastic tab that prevents you from using standard HDMI with other standard audio cables. Microsoft is just unfairly pushing its first party products and you should not have to be suckered into BS like this overpriced POS.

Just what I needed
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This cable is just what I needed. I don’t run sound through my TV at all, so having the optical out was perfect.

HDMI=big difference
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
If you have a good TV, the standard XBOX 360 cables do just fine. However, on the same TV, if you ever chance to compare HDMI with standard cables, you’ll see a clear difference. Definitely worth the buy, HDMI is a superior product.

Rip-off
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Nowhere in the description of this does it tell you it does NOT work with the Original XBox 360.

The dongle that this gives you does NOT have an HDMI connection on it. This product assumes you have an HDMI port on your XBox. The only XBox 360′s that have an HDMI connection are the Premium and the Elite.

If you do not have one of these systems you need this product, http://www.madcatz.com/Default.asp?Page=411

Loser Microsoft
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
So I wanted to use Optical Toslink cable along with HDMI, well guess what? I can’t! why you ask? MS made the A/V port so close to the HDMI port it’s impossible to use them both because of the huge plastic square on the A/V cable. Microsoft then tries to sell you on more cables that will allow you to use both HDMI and A/V so you can use your toslink cable, otherwise you can only choose either to use A/V with component or HDMI with sound bound to your tv speakers. SHADY MOVE! this is what makes the PS3 a better buy after its all said and done, at least Sony doesn’t make you buy tons of accessories just to use what the system was designed to do.

Sadly Necessary
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Let me give this five stars just to let people know that this is, in fact, the solution for HDMI video with your XBox 360 while retaining RCA (red-white) support for your existing speaker setup. All of the complaints people have about Microsoft’s damaged design leading to the need for this cable are true, but it works fine. Just get it used for much less.

Microsoft needs your money
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
Normally, I review products so people know how they compare to the competition. I also want to give customers a feeling about whether the product is worth buying. It’s tough to do in this case. There are no competing products, and you end up with standard connectors. If you need them, you have no other choice.

HDMI is a standard. Microsoft hates standards because they allow you to buy things from other vendors. Their HDMI cable is probably fine. I don’t know because I don’t need it. I have plenty of standard HDMI cables. What I didn’t have was the dongle. Instead of building a standard Toslink connector into the XBOX, Microsoft gives you a proprietary connector and a standard HDMI connector. They give you an SD cable when you buy the XBOX, which defeats the point of HD graphics. If your XBOX came with component cables too, you got the Toslink connector BUT the cable blocks the HDMI port. Why would Microsoft design it that way except to force you to buy their dongle? This way, even though you already have both connectors you need, one blocks the other like the school bully who wants your lunch money.

You can use any good HDMI cable you want and get the same results. It will give you the best picture and sound. But if you need to hook an HDMI cable to your TV and need a Toslink connection for your audio system, you get ripped off paying for this dongle. The dongle itself works fine. I now get full surround sound for my XBOX and for any HD DVDs it plays. It’s no better than from the component cable’s Toslink jack except it no longer blocks the HDMI port.

In my case, I have a top of the line Sony HDTV. Sony designed it to accept three HDMI connections, and its Toslink output gives full surround, EXCEPT when the input is from an HDMI source instead of their built in tuner. This has nothing to do with this cable, except that’s the situation that would require you needing one. If you can plug an HDMI cable into your audio system and have it send HDMI output to your TV, then you don’t need this cable/dongle. If you are using your TV’s audio, or if it sends the full digital audio signal to your audio system, you don’t need this cable either.

This cable also gives you analog stereo output. It’s fairly pointless. If you have an HDMI input on your TV, you can use its analog audio outputs if your audio system has no digital inputs or surround sound.

Xbox HDMI cables.
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I have not been able to use these cables, I don’t have an HDMI port on my Xbox 360, I thought it would convert the signal from the Xbox 360 video out to HDMI. Found out I need a digital video signal output from my Xbox 360. I have a pre-HDMI Xbox 360. Will hold on to the cables if I upgrade my Xbox.
