Great Gameplay
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Gameplay is solid and the best way to enjoy basketball on a console. The graphics are well done, but the frame rate is choppy. There are minor glitches and a few things they should have cleaned up before release, but overall a good improvement over previous years and lives up to the 2k basketball franchise.
Still the best…

Lot of new changes for 2K10. The implementation of the turbo button in this year’s game means that the more you use it, the faster your player will get tired. Ultimately, this results in a slower paced game. This is something that may take some time for experienced 2K users to get used to. One of the negatives that I found were many of the player faces look worse this year than last year. Outside of that, the animation is still top notch. They added a lot of new moves this year as well as the new player modes. I love how they added the NBA Today feature and update you during your game with stats and commentary regarding each teams real life performance. Overall, it’s still the best option for any NBA fan.
Glitches Glitches Glitches
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I have been playing 2K basketball for awhile, this game does feel like last years with a couple of new things added to it. The My Player mode is pretty fun I haven’t gotten too far into it yet though. The game feels the same as last year but the glitches when you post up and shoot or even drive or dunk a ridiculous, I know they will have a patch for it soon but come on they need to release this game perfect. The frame rate is horrible and also the new presentation is getting really annoying, I’m talking about when they start talking about when another team is playing they repeat it waaaay tooo many times during game play. I have also notice that the crowd does not follow the game that well; sometimes when the court is silent the crowd is going wild. They are a lot of things that need to be fixed and I wish they could have done more to this game play rather than adding new modes. If 2K does this next year I’m going to stop buying this game, I might try NBA Live 2010 and I hate NBA Live.
Was quality control on vacation?

What is going on with 2K? Their baseball series and NHL games have been terrible, you would think that their baby NBA2K wouldn’t suffer the same fate. But ya know, every dynasty comes to an end, and while NBA 2k10 is not terrible, its certainly a major disappointment for fans. The major problems are technical issues. Since launch, this game has been unplayable online. There are some serious framerate issues. I don’t quite understand why 2K would released unfinished product to the public. It was obviously to beat NBA Live to the door. But don’t let the NBA 2k name fool you anymore, this game is a major disappointment. Casual fans and guys who don’t go online probably won’t notice the major issues, but once you go online, it’s all downhill from there. 2K promises a patch down the road, but ya know ,why not make the game right before you release it. I will not buy 2K on launch next year, neither should you. Check out NBA Live, it’s at least finished and I enjoyed it more than this.
Realistic and then not….
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
This game is put together pretty well except for two BIG flaws. EVERY single time the computer shoots an uncontested/open shot, it goes in, EVERY time. How realistic is that? Real NBA players cant even do that during practice. Ridiculous. The second problem is the defensive help. I cant just play the center on defense because if I leave it up to the CPU it wont even try to block a shot from another player. The player just stands there looking stupid. This makes you have to switch to a different defender every time the ball is passed. So I am guessing that if you let the CPU play itself on 12 minute quarters, the score should end up being about 200 on each side. Seriously 2k, if youre going to make such a nice looking game, dont skimp on the fundamentals…..
Loving the game
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
First, let me say that I don’t play online, so I haven’t encountered the problems that others have. Also, this is the first sports game that I’ve played on Xbox 360. But so far I love this game, especially the My Player section. True, there are some glitches that are annoying, but I find myself saying ‘Just one more game before I quit’. That is how I judge whether or not a game is good or not. I’ve spent the majority of my time in the My Player and while it’s difficult, it’s still a blast to play. The only negative that I have, besides the usual glitches which will hopefully be fixed in the patch, is that the game manual doesn’t give enough information for those that are brand new to this type of game. I feel it’s for those that have played the previous games and too brief. That’s why I gave this game 4 stars instead of 5. Other than that, I really enjoy it!!
It’s ok
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I’d like to say the game is an improvement, but I feel that something is missing. The AI is much tougher and the controls have changed a bit taking some time to get used to.
Positives
+ Graphics are nice
+ Tough AI
+ New My Player mode
+ Animation is fluid
+ Being able to download draft prospects from other players around the world in association mode.
Negatives
- Not the most up to date rosters. I’m a fan of the OKC Thunder and Serge Ibaka is no where to be seen. There is no player model for Taylor Griffin on Phoenix sons just basic default looking character.
- On Association mode the ranomly generated draft prospects all look to much the same.
- There is really not enough player detail in the player creation to make any one created player look too much different from another player.
Glad I did not buy it
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I played my buddies game and I am glad I did not waste my money. This game has glitches and the frame rate problem is real. Maybe I will have to check out LIVE again. I cant believe they would sell this game, what a downgrade from last year.
Run of the mill release from a solid franchise
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
For a long time I was a devout NBA Live player. A few years ago the franchise went stale and little was changed or improved upon from year to year. That was when I switched over to the 2K franchise. Every year I found myself getting excited for October because that’s when the much anticipated new version of the 2K series is. It pains me to say it, but it appears that 2K has fallen into the same slump that Live was in a few years ago. Other than minor improvements on a few mundane details, this is the same game as 2K9.
THE GOOD:
- The new NBA Today feature that gives a breakdown of each day’s real NBA games and their results.
- The graphics are better than last year, but the difference isn’t as profound and jaw dropping as in years past. Nonetheless, players do look more realistic.
- The commentary by Marv Albert and Clark Kellogg is the best of any sports game I’ve played. While a lot of it is recycled from past years’ versions, there is a surprising amount of new stuff (if you’re familiar with the NCAA Football franchise from EA Sports then you know how annoying it can be to have the same commentary every year, especially when it doesn’t add anything to the gaming experience). The banter between Albert and Kellogg is very believable and it doesn’t sound like they are acting.
- 2K has done a total overhaul on the in game menus. This is going to be a matter of personal taste, but I like the way these look.
- By far the best change is the addition of the “My Player” mode. It allows you to create a player of any position who has a specific set of strengths and weaknesses. Here is the general synopsis:
You start out playing in a summer league and try to make it to an NBA training camp. If you get an invite to training camp then you try to avoid getting cut. If you do you head to the D-League, if not then you play in the NBA. Along the way you earn skill points used to improve any aspect of your game – from mental toughness to scoring from the post.
In each game you are assessed a “Teammate grade” for what you do on the court. Taking good shots, setting good picks, rebounds, assists, getting good position on your defender, running a fast break correctly and a number of other things will raise your teammate grade. Turnovers, excessively calling for a pass, letting your match up (the man you guard) score, taking bad shots and not staying with your match up will lower your teammate grade. Before each game you are given three challenges to complete during the game. For each one you complete successfully you get additional skill points. For example, you might be asked to hold your match up to 51% shooting from the field, make 4 baskets in the paint, and finish with a teammate grade of B+.
The My Player mode is a lot of fun if you can get past the idea of only being one player on a team. You have to work to get open and its not a good idea to shoot the ball every time you touch it. If you stick with it then you will enjoy this game mode. It is a good addition to this franchise, but it certainly isn’t enough to carry the game. Which brings me to…
THE BAD:
- The online play, or should I say the lack thereof. A quick history lesson: 2K8 had a great online feature complete with leagues, quick games against any random person who was online and ready to play, and game lounges for all different skill levels. After such a great and expansive online option the previous year, 2K9, for some inexplicable reason, did not have game lounges. This meant who you played – and how good he or she was – was totally random. A beginner playing an expert meant the beginner left feeling frustrated and discouraged and the expert got to pad their stats. Not to mention connecting to an online game was unacceptably difficult. In my experience, over 3 out of every 4 attempted online games wouldn’t be able to connect in the first place. It was very frustrating.
Well, that was nothing compared to the problems 2K10 has. The main reason I play sports games is to play online. I have owned this game for over a week and I still have not been able to connect to an online game. I have tried every day and every single time it reports a connection error and refers me to a website that offers no help and a FAQ that is blank. I have heard a rumor that 2K is planning on releasing a patch to fix the online problems but I am not holding out much hope; they did the same thing last year and it didn’t help.
- The gameplay is almost the exact same as last year. The look is a bit different, but the first time I played it I dominated my opponent because it is essentially the same game I’ve been playing since October of last year.
- It is unbelievably easy to score inside. Playing as the Hornets, I was able to have Chris Paul post up Kevin Garnett on several occasions and only get blocked once. I had Mike Bibby dunk on Tim Duncan. My jaw dropped as the laws of physics were suspended when Allen Iverson went for a layup and the ball traveled through – that’s right…THROUGH – the arm of Shaq as he made a futile attempt to swat the layup into the next zip code.
- In the game manual it claims that you can control the different dunks the players do. It could be user error, but I haven’t been able to make it work. I have talked to others who have complained about this too.
- The shot stick is counter-intuitive and largely unnecessary. It has been a feature in the 2K series for a while now and I know they are trying to answer NBA Live’s manual dribble moves but not all of the shots work and the one’s that do are confusing and take practice to get down. When you’re in the middle of a game and you are driving to the basket, you don’t want to think about which direction to point the shot stick. It would be better to hold the shoot button and then use the movement stick to control how the player releases the shot. To me that seems like the more natural way to play.
IN CONCLUSION
2K has a great tradition of producing top of the line basketball games. While this newest version certainly isn’t a bad game, the game makers left way too much room for improvement. It is a disappointment mainly because I expect better from this franchise, especially considering this is its 10 year anniversary. Instead of taking time to innovate the gameplay itself, the makers of 2k10 spent most of their time and energy on aesthetic details like the menus and commentary. With the exception of the My Player mode, this game is no more than a brightly decorated version of 2k9.
Awful!
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I am truly impressed with how little amount of time a company can put into a game, create a huge hype and then make boatloads of money. The online play is unplayable.
Let’s start with the controls: If you want to feel like you are playing basketball on ice in tennis shoes, then buy this game. There is so much delay from when you order your player to move (or stop moving) to when they actually do it, you almost start to wonder if they put this in for a “realistic” effect. There are two problems with this. 1.) Reality isn’t fun. and 2.) They didn’t do it on purpose. The controls work significantly better in offline mode, but that doesn’t help someone that plays almost exclusively online.
Gameplay: The gameplay is, for the most part the same as previous versions of the game, with one major difference… once again, the ONLINE! There is so much slowdown that when combined with the controls, it feels like you are sometimes playing basketball in the Matrix. They made the gameplay a little more realistic and difficult. Personally, I’m not a fan of this, but it is way down on the list of complaints
Graphics: Nothing to complain about here, other than that Shaq looks like a zombie
Sound: Personally, I think this area is where 2kSports really shows their stripes. The other complaints that I have about the game regarding gameplay and controls can be explained away as “glitches”. Nevermind that they obviously didn’t spend enough time testing the game (if any at all). But to me, the sound is simply unexcusable. I skipped NBA2k9, so NBA 2k8 is the last game that I have to base my opinion off of, but I was genuinely SHOCKED to find that much of the audio commentary is recycled from a game from 2 years ago! I’m not asking for anything groundbreaking here, but at least word your cliche statements or use different inflection to indicate to me that someone actually cared at all about how this game turned out.
Fun Factor: If you were having a couple friends over and playing in the same location, I could see how this game could be very fun. However, if you intend to play online at all, forget about it. I have heard good things about the “My player” mode, but considering I am primarily an online player, this comes secondary to me and honestly, after playing one online game, I had seen enough.
Replay Ability: It’s basketball, every game is different. High replay ability.
The game is a collection of glitches and bugs. Avoid
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
2K apparently rushed this game so badly to make its release window that they simply let an absurd number of glitches, bugs, and game crashing errors remain on the disc. DO NOT BUY. Any five star reviews are fakes, as there is no possible way someone could play an entire game….
2K10=Broken
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
Just go to the 2k forums and read. The game has a game breaking frame-rate problem whenever you go into the paint. They obviously rushed this out to meet their release date.
Poor Frame Rate
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
While playing the game in local mode (not online) the frame rates drop considerably, to the point where it feels like you’re playing online over a bad connection. I normally don’t nit pick at technical issues, but this one is very noticeable and aggravating. I’m hoping it can be fixed by a patch, or if you’ve been able to tweak the settings to smooth things out let me know. I haven’t played NBA Live so I have no comparison, but think the competition and choice between the two series is a good thing.
UPDATE 24OCT09: There is detailed information about the frame rate problem on the 2K sports website. They are currently working on a patch to correct this issue and others. In my opinion the games fun factor is greatly reduced due to the current bugs, and the game lacks the spit and polish you would expect from a finished product. It seems more like a game that is still under development. If the patch fixes these issues I would probably raise my rating to 5 stars.
UPDATE 09NOV09: Patch came out and corrected frame rate issues among other things. I’ve increased game rating from 3 to 5 stars. There are still a few nit picky things I don’t like about the game but overall its one of the best basketball games I’ve ever played. Largely due to the fun of “My Player” mode.
Improvement of NBA 2k9
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
My Player mode is lots of fun. There still seems to be some lag during offline use which is unacceptable though.
NBA 2K10 Never Fails
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Graphics and Gameplay are two main things fans need in a game. 2K10 does not lack in either area while Live 10 lacks in graphics. After playing 2K10 a few times you realize that playing in the post is quite difficult and harder to score but I feel that is the reality of the NBA itself. It’s not suppose to be easy so I think 2K10 nailed that in the coffin with the CPU’s defensive gameplay. The offensive gameplay is pretty much the same as last year but I can’t complain because I enjoyed last year’s gameplay. As many of others have said the presentation is amazing and that’s where Live 10 is no competition. Amazing Game! I Recommend it for NBA gamers.
Many Improvement and still Many to Go
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Well I waited awhile to review this game until I got a real feel for it.
I must say it took me about a week to really appreciate the subtle changes that 2k10 has made.
1) The oops off the glass to a team mate or to yourself is a plus… and the Put back Slams are nuts.
2) The ratings of team are no longer high so there is no 1 dominant team, every team can be a threat.
3) Smoother Online play.
4) Improved defense… and the stamina meter makes is so people can’t run around all day with KOBE, LEBRON and D WADE all game like in 2k9.
5) Smarter AI this year it actually feels like you’re playing a real person… The computer ain’t dumb no more they’ll make the extra pass to the open man or make you pay for a blown defensive cover.
6) My player mode gives the game more playability no longer just a season or online game and it actually improves your basketball IQ for playing in Crews mode or Team Matches.
7) Being able to use your created player online is also a plus .
Cons:
1) GLITCHES… you got a fast break going in for the stuff and your dude takes the slowest 2 steps to the basket in the world… Not all the time but it takes away from the smoothness of the game.
2) There are other delays here in there sometime the Ref and the Person taking the ball out tend to play Catch back in forth for like 30 of 40 seconds.. whats that all about. And there are a few other things that can affect game play here and there.
All in all I like this game it just feels more real to me than other B-Ball games. In my opinion it provides for the most realistic NBA experience. The game play is spot on. All though there are Glitches they are not a deal breaker plus 2K is releasing a PATCH for it soon so this game will be the Premiere game it is always been.
Great game, but still has bugs
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Great game, but still has bugs which creates alot of lag when all the players crowd the basket. But everything else about the game is still pretty good.
Hardest Basketball Game I have ever played!
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Although there are a few nice features about this game, there is far more negatives then positives. First off let me start off by saying that I have bought every game that 2k has made, but the last 2 years have been my 2 least favorite in the series. Maybe it is just me and maybe it is because I am not a hardcore gamer anymore, but I just want to sit down and enjoy a game, but I can’t do that with this game. It is impossible to make any shots as I shoot wide open 3 pointers and even lay ups at times and they won’t go in. I can’t even beat the computer unless I am on rookie, but forget playing anything harder they make every shot imaginable. I guess I am just waiting for an explanation from the creators to tell me why the heck did they make this game so dang hard. I am suprised it has got such high ratings I wouldn’t rate it higher then a 6 out of 10, but since it is rated at almost 9 out 10 I am forced to give a 1 star to make it close to its real rating. If you enjoy great graphics and a challenge(in a sports game) then maybe this is for you and you can disregard this message, but if your anyone like myself that doesn’t want to have to memorize about 20 buttons and tons of plays just to win a game(literally you can’t pick up this game and just play and have fun its just frustrating). Hopefully you make the right choice.
NBA2k10 shoots and scores!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is a fantastic B-Ball game! I have to say that it has been nearly 3 years since I have bought a basketball game and decided to try the 2k series again. And I am glad I did! The graphics are much improved and the game play is very addicting! If you have a 1080p HD TV, you are in for a real treat. My son walked in and did a double take – he thought I was watching a Suns game! It is my opinion that the game play in the 2K series is better – faster, more realistic, and more lively than the NBA live game. Try this one out and you will not be sorry!
Feels the same as 2k09 but its good
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
this game feels the same as 2k09. The only thing they have done is improve on graphics and the way you call plays plus other minor things. I also bought live 2010 for the 1st time and believe it or not its really good i would say they both deserve 4 stars but I find myself playing Live more . It isn’t that fake basketball feel anymore. It actually plays like 2k WOW.
Back to 2k10
If you have played this throughout the years I think its time to tell them to change it OMG. It kind of annoys me that they are not changing the game play. I really wanted to give 3.5 but its not an option. Don’t get me wrong its fun but after 1 game you will feel cheated. If this is your first time getting 2k you will enjoy it more than people like me who has always picked this over live. Buy it if your a fan of 2k but save your money if you want something new. Trust me it feels the same. read other reviews a lot of people are saying the same…
This was one of the best game my son had so far….
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
My Son Raj loved this game. When we got it, about 10 of his friends came home to have a look at Graphics and Tricks of this game. As per his comments ” The best game we ever got him so far”
I am very happy.
Thanks.

Good Game
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Very fun game! Don’t be afraid to tweak the sliders to adjust difficulty. Cool shot and “finishing around the basket” animations specific to individual players. A lot of depth in the legacy mode.
1st 2K B Ball game I played in years and it’s good
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
For the sake of the argument, I will keep this brief.
This is the first time in almost 5 years I have played an NBA game on the new gen systems since the first ones came out.
The graphics are great as always but it’s what you expect from a 2K game.
The presentation is good and the controls still give me a pick up and play feel.
I guess if I had any complaints it would be in some of the framerate glitches in the game play whereas sometimes you see players just ‘float’ across the screen occasionally or major loss of framerate during transition drives. But it really doesn’t break the game.
I do appreciate however the ‘real world’ feel of the game as you play you get ‘up to date’ news about league happenings so that the commentary doesn’t feel too old.
Playing this still makes me wish that when the NFL Licence expires a game will be made. Yes, people will hate hearing this but it’s the truth.
Between this ad NBA Live, this is the better buy.
GREAT BASKETBALL GAME!!!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is a great game. Its definitely the most realistic b-ball game but as any game, has its faults. The only problem is the glitchyness when u go to the basket(drive towards the rim) and 2K has said they’ll have a patch soon so its all good. I played the NBA Live 10 demo and it was great so u really cant go wrong this year. I stopped playin NBA Live after 05′ cuz they weren’t changing anything so i switch over to 2K and have been hooked ever since but NBA LIVE came back strong this year so its all good. BOTH ARE GREAT!!!(i just prefer 2K).
2K Sports has done it again
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
2K Sports has managed to keep ahead of the competition for another year with their release of NBA 2K10. The development team has been listening to their fans; The menu selection screens have been made easier to navigate, the graphics tuned up to a surreal level, and the features have been streamlined and tweaked to provide the best basketball simulation on any console. Period.
This game is the best basketball simulation out there, but it isn’t perfect. Sometimes the framerate dips a bit in the post, the defensive system can occasionally have players crabwalking twenty feet from the ball, and the reward system in the new my player mode can be frustrating. Still, even with a couple of minor gripes, it’s the best. 2K needed to leave something to tweak for 2K11 after all.
