Amazing game, well-reviewed by others, so here’s what I didn’t like.
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Reviewers like C. Kelleher “cmkelleher” have already posted thorough comparisons of this game to other current racing ones, so I’ll just post what I didn’t like.

Before I do that I need to admit that this was one of the funnest racing games I’ve played through, and I’ve bought most that have come out for the PS3. The developers have done an amazing job and I know I’ll keep going back to it (especially for the drift events)

OK, now the (slightly) bad stuff.

- Le mans – There are a host of tracks of varying types. Some are sunny and wide-open while others are tight, wet night courses. Of all of these, the most uninteresting is ‘Le mans’. It consists mostly of mildly technical sections punctuating long stretches of slight turns. There is even one section where you really just hold the throttle open for nearly 30 seconds without turning a single bit. It’s really the only course I dreaded seeing appear, which was unfortunate since the developers chose to feature it so much. Every four events you’re challenged to ’24-hours of Le Mans’ and it’s even the location for the final ‘boss’ battle.

- Nurburgring (nearly) – Most performance car enthusiasts follow the drama of new cars posting record-braking times on this amazing track (like the new Viper ACR vs. Nissan’s GTR). I loved the prospect of racing on the full track, even if it took 7:30 to do it. Sadly, access is limited to the ‘grand prix circuit.’

- Pole position? – Many races, especially later in the game, are composed of multiple rounds with the same car class but in different locations. If you win (or just do well) in a round you’d expect to be placed near the front of the pack for the next one. Instead, you nearly always start 10th or worse (in a pack of 12).

- View inconsistency – The game has 5 or 6 vantage points from which to play, and I usually choose either inside the car with steering wheel visible or as far as possible above it. The game’s new flashback feature is a great idea and saves a lot of time restarting a race completely because someone spun you out 10 seconds from the end of a race. But when you go into the flashback mode the game doesn’t remember the view you were using, so each entry into that mode starts with a rapid pressing of the view button to get back to your view. The seizure-inducing flash, flash, flash nonsense that happens before it throws you back into the race is also annoying.

- Cars – This game has a decent selection of cars, but I didn’t like how advancement through the game essentially meant abandoning the types of cars I was most interested in. My loved Supra, Skyline, NSX, etc. were useless as the focus of the game shifted into GT-class, F3, F1 and prototype euro cars. Some of these were fun, but I prefer how other games let you upgrade the cars to you like to be competitive with higher classes.

- Bikes! – Why do almost no racing games have motorcycles? I would love to tear around the tracks in this game on a GSX-R. :)

Thanks to Codemasters for an awesome game – can’t wait for your next one.

A great racing game if you give it a chance. Slow to start but becomes additive after a couple of hours.

Best Racing Game for the PS3
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Best racing game for the PS3 so far. Graphics are not on par with GT5, however they are fantastic, and the gameplay is spectacular. Menus are not that polished and the number of cars is not that much, but the ones that you get are really fun to drive. My order for PS3 driving games (just first two are sims):

1) Grid

2) GT5

3) Ridge Racer 7

4) Burnout Paradise

5) Need of Speed Carbon

My sugestion is, stick with these games, all others, including the other Need for Speeds and Midnight Club Los Angeles are very bad.

Not 1080p?
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
the game play is simply fantastic. I have played many other Codemasters racing games and think they are amazing. My only gripe with the game is not being able to view the game in full 1080p. only 720p being the highest res. GT Prologue play’s in full HD 1080p. Other than that, GRID is definitely one of the best driving games on the market!

I wanted a non-violent (No Motorstorm or Burnout) good-looking racing game for my PS3, so I had to decide between Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and GRID. Since a copy of GT5 Prologue will essentially become a coaster once the full Gran Turismo is released, I decided on GRID.

Having been accustomed to the handling in the old NFS series (Hot Pursuit 2, Most Wanted), I spent all my first races in GRID just crashing against walls and other cars. It was only when a nephew came to my house and he won a couple of races -having never before played the game- that I discovered that the problem wasn’t GRID, but me. My nephew knows how to drive a car in real life, while I don’t. He gave me a very basic piece of advice on how to take a curve: “Slow down – Turn – Accelerate”. This made all the difference in the world. Right now I’ve won four golden medals in the European challenges, and I feel confident that I can win a lot more. What started as a love-hate relationship with GRID has now become true love.

Still, I feel it lacks “something”. Perhaps I was spoiled by the NFS focus on sheer fun, and that’s why I have trouble with a more serious (you even manage sponsors!) racing game.

excellent
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Absolutely the best racing game around other than the gran turismos. Wide variety of real cars, (which is imperative to me), unlimited cosmetic upgrades, lots of tuning options. Lots of races, a great career mode, an in depth partnership feature, and lots of varying degrees of difficulty. My only complaint is it gets ridiculously hard at the top levels (as it should), frustratingly difficult. The best feature is the crash rewind feature, which comes in SUPER handy during a 20 minute race. Other games if you slip up once, its over. Here, you have a little bit of leeway. It’s great, it encourages you to take chances and really makes things more exciting. I love racing games and if you can’t wait for GT5, get this to tide you over. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Cars lovers have to had
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have bought this game because I am a formula 1 fan and i noticed it has open-wheel races. But as soon as I started playing the game i got hooked.

There are several different kind of races and in each you have to learn how to drive the car in order to have some achievements, and this creates a lot of fun from a racing game.

I use the Logitech Driving Force GT Racing Wheel and the feel of the car helps you a lot to dive into the action.

Absolutely recommendable for all kind of driving fans!

NO 2 PLAYER!!!
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
You’ve already read other people’s reviews and they are generally spot-on. However, they don’t make it obvious that you can’t have a friend over and play one-on-one. WTF? This is a COLOSSAL downgrade in my opinion. I can only play with people online or find a friend and drag him over and set him up on LAN play with his dedicated PS3/TV.

Great game, but you’ve been warned…

Very well made game
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I bought this game when it came out and I must say that is very well made indeed. The visuals and sounds are great. The cars are really cool and fun to drive but I don’t like that you can’t have different colors for your cars. You really only choose your team color and that is the color of all your cars then..unless someone can tell me how to have different colored cars in my collection at the same time. Don’t get me wrong, you can change those colors, but it makes all your cars that new color too. To me this game is not as fun as say…Need For Speed…but the drifting in this game is soooooo cool! You can catch some serious sweet drifts in this game! If you want a good racing game with a good drift physics and you have the cash…then this is a worthy title to add to your collection of racers.

I put GRID up against ANY other racing game that I’ve played
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I love racing games but am not a huge fan of the realistic-type racing games (Gran Turismo, Forza, etc.). I read a lot of reviews of GRID before buying it and wasn’t sure whether I would care for it or not. I am a big fan of the Burnout series. I am not a huge fan of the Need for Speed series because I am not really into cars that use spoilers as decoration and use blown-out mufflers to make them sound louder.

That being said, GRID is probably the best racing game I have ever played. I like the fact that you build your own racing team including designing your own “branding” for that team but you don’t get bogged down with choosing decals and other countless inane customization options. The cars in GRID are actual cars (Corvette, Lamborghini, Aston-Martin, etc) as opposed to the Burnout cars that may be modelled after real cars but have silly names.

The racing in GRID is NOT realistic like Gran Turismo but it’s more realistic than Burnout. You start the race with one car and if you bang up that car during a race, it can affect the performance of that car. You have several (usually 5) opportunities during a race to cue the instant replay and re-start just before you crashed so you don’t have to completely avoid crashes altogether but you can’t just bounce off of walls and other cars for the entire race like you can in Burnout, for example. Unlike the latest Burnout offering (Burnout Paradise), you CAN restart any race at any time. There are drifting events and head-to-head races as well as endurance events like the “24 hours at Le Mans” race.

As you progress with your racing team, you can add drivers to your team so that you have multiple entries in the same race. The tracks vary depending on whether you race in Europe, U.S. or Japan but you don’t get bored racing the same track over and over again because they change the tracks for different races. Sometimes, you race in the opposite direction on a particular track and sometimes they add sections to a particular track. So, you don’t get bored racing the same tracks all the time.

I found a lot of conflicting reviews before buying this game and was still not sure what I was going to get when I played it. That’s why I have posted this review. Hopefully, it will clear up any confusion there might be about what kind of racing game GRID is for those of you who may be on-the-fence about purchasing it.

I recommend GRID!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
If you want a game that is a realistic racer, stop looking around. Grid is your next game your going to buy for your PS3 system. From street racing to the demo derby arena, its all here with different racing regions, online racing with 2 to 12 players, and realistic high impact crash damage and sequences. If you want a racing game that’s got bang for your buck, this is it! I recommend this game!

Good game.
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This game is good, but i am a race game player, and it is dificult to me to win a single race, imagine a rookie playing this game on first time playing racing games.

the races are good, and the graphics, and the game play, but it is for payers how played racing games before.

so realistic with the car sounds.

Amazing Game
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
At first, i was gonna get Burnout Paradise or GT 5 but some ppl recommended this game and i said what the heck lemme get. After playing the game i felt really happy bout it since its more real like not like GT 5 in which if you hit the fence your car doesnt get damaged or lose your speed.

And another great thing bout the game is that it has 3 different kinds of races like american cars, Japanese or Track races. I really recommend this game for all who are in favor of car games.

Almost perfect!!!
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
GRID is one of the best racing games I’ve ever played, its not as easy as NFS series or lacks some souls as other games.

When I said the game is almost perfect its for the following reasons:

- The steering with the analog stick is very hard and quick and there is no setting the sensitivity in the options.

- Drifting is extremely hard and I’m not really a fan of it, so i decided to skip all drifting races hoping it won’t affect my progress in the game.

- The team mate selection is a bit crazy, each driver you select is specialized in something and really bad in any other type of races. So either you select a good driver who is trying to beat you to the podium or a bad one who is the last one in the races (almost).

Other than this the game is extremely engaging and has some great graphics.

Recommended for any racing games fan.

Good Racing Game
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Though the graphics are not as detailed as Gran Turismo, this is a very satisfying racing game letting your try lots of different types of cars and lots of different tracks.

There is an overall theme of buying different types of race cars, having a team and competing in the US, Europe and Japan. Though you’ll find a lot of drifting challenges in the Japan races, the remainder are more oriented toward road racing (except for the demolition derbys). Personally, I’m not a fan of the backdrop of race cars, teams, etc., but I still enjoyed the driving.

One big difference with Grid vs Gran Turismo 5 is that in Grid your car gets damaged when you hit something and if you hit too many things, you’re out of the race. A nice feature is your ability to rewind and play again if you get into trouble.

Not bad, not quite Gran Turismo

Not bad, not quite Gran Turismo. But then again its not a sumulation game. What it does it does well and it looks great doing it.

Tried the Demo, and Bought the Game Immediately
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I tried the demo from the Playstation Network and bought the game the same night. This game is that good. The menu options are a delight to say the least. Not overly complex, and styled very well.

The graphics and sounds of this game are top-notch. Even though the damage that becomes visibile on your car may be a bit over-the-top, it looks great. I like how your car eventually becomes totaled if you wreck it too much.

GRID is a bit hard to control because the controls are so sensitive and responsive. I am sure with more time, I’ll be able to finish a race!

Online play is exciting. It is a very enjoyable aspect of this generation of games.
