Overrated? Pfft. Overhyped? Pfft. Best game of the year.
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This has been the busiest gaming year in recent memory. With games such as Batman: Arkham Asylum, Halo:ODST, Fallout 3 GOTY, Borderlands it would’ve been a great year for many a gamer. I’ve picked up all of the aforementioned games and I’ve gotta say MW2 is the best out of all of them.
I haven’t been able to beat the story yet, but the first few missions are absolutly amazing. Each one was better than the last. The graphics were also revamped, and this is definitly the best looking Call of Duty game ever.
Multiplayer – Lot’s of new additions, including more exp for more objectives. For example you get extra exp for killing the person who last killed you(Payback), you’ll also get extra exp for stopping someone from getting a killstreak (Buzzkill), and so on and so forth. The multiplayer no longer has the perks Juggernaut and Martydom, as these were the 2 most commonly hated perks in the game. Martydom is still in the game, however as a death streak. A death streak is also something new in the game, where if you die a certain amount of times in a row without obtaining a kill, you’ll temporarily gain a perk until you get a kill. Martydom requires you to die 4 times in a row, and once you finally kill someone, you’ll lose it…until you die 4 times in a row again. Juggernaut has been seemingly replaced with a deathstreak of it’s own called painpills. Once you die 3 times in a row, you’ll spawn with extra health for the first 10 seconds after you spawn. As weak as it sounds, it’s saved my life and my opponents life countless times already.
In terms of gameplay online, the multiplayer is the same as before. Kill, get objectives, etc. The weapons seem more balanced, and with the new perks, deathstreaks and addition of customizable killstreaks, it’s rare to have 2 people use the exact same thing. The game has definitly gotten more tactical, and is a huge plus. The maps are gorgeous, however they all have a certain familiar scenery to them. The first time I visited certain maps “Oh, this looks like _______ from CoD4″, yet are completly different, it’s hard to explain, but you’ll understand once you play.
From what I understand there is no co-op in campaign. This is the biggest let-down in the game. However the addition of Spec-Ops partially makes up for it. I’ve spent already more than 5 hours in Spec-Ops and it’s truly the most fun, yet challenging thing I’ve ever had in a Call of Duty game. Spec-ops is only 2 player (Again, another let-down. I hope they decide to 4-player DLC soon), and throw you into situations with an objective. My personal favorite, had me as a ground soldier, and my co-op partner as the gunner for a helicopter. I had to make it from Point A to Point B so that I could get rescued. While I ran around, my partner was shooting down enemies to help clear my path. It was insane. Other missions include racing on snowmobiles, running a training course, and of course defending yourself against waves of soldiers, helicopters and Jeeps!
EDIT – Thought I’d just add a tiny bit about the Hardened edition. The artbook is amazing. It’s amazing. Sorry for being repititous, but…it’s amazing. I opened it and was in shock at how great the artwork looks. The steelbook case looks nice and for those who care about having special covers and boxes etc. this is the version for you. It also comes with Call of Duty Classic (XBL Arcade game, Pretty big too, I believe it was 1.5+Gigs).
This is the definitive game of the year. People have been saying for a while that it’s overhyped and overrated. I’m sorry, but this game deserves all the credit it’s due. It’s amazing in every sense of the word. I give this game a 10/10. THE ONLY flaw in my opinion that this game has is that it does not have campaign co-op online. However the “replacement” Spec-Ops is so much more exciting and fun as a 2 player co-op.
Believe the hype. Buy it. Now.
Zombies?
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
So let me say, having not played Modern Warfare I was very impressed with this game. The campaign was a lot of fun and really got me into what was happening. Also I LOVED the Red Dawn reference which was just brilliant.
Only thing keeping me from giving this game a 5 is very simple. Zombies. CoD WaW set the new standard for online multiplayer with their Nazi Zombies mode and subsequent maps. What CoD MW2 needs is a zombie mode. Taliban Zombie, Russian Zombie, whatever! Anything that we can use the modern warfare weapons to kill zombies would be amazing! In fact the more I think of it the more I am disappointed.
Another slight problem is a co-op campaign mode, the special ops are nice but too short and time based. Actual missions with friends would be far better…which also leads back to zombies. It seems the designers for the game decided that only player competition is fun for people when there must be a large fanbase of people who want to do co-op stuff. Just my opinion.

Evolution of an already great series

I have been waiting since the first Modern Warfare game for this game. Was it worth they wait? I would have to say yes, does it break the Call of Duty mold? Not really. I had both the PS3 and 360 version of the game on hand at launch day, but a poorly timed Red Ring of Death on my 360 meant it was a few days before I could play on my Xbox.
The game plays amazingly well on both system, to the degree that I don’t even notice a difference. It almost comes down to which control you like better, or which system your friends are using. Xbox Live is still the standard when it comes to online play, it is easy simple and painless (though not free). It might just be me but it seems that the load times on the 360 are just slightly faster than the PS3. I have had no problems with the online play with either Xbox live or PSN Network.
The fist issue I have is with the difficulty settings, most everyone should be able to enjoy and play through the game on the easiest setting, but from there up the difficulty ramps up for faster than it should The Regular setting on WM2 feel much more like the Veteran setting on MW. This is a hard game for all but the best FPS players. You will die while fighting off wave and waves of bad guys that never stop spawning. That is part of the COD recipe for sure but it makes it particularly frustrating on levels like the Rio slums level. Where you have guys spawning from every direction, none stop and all of whom are master marksman. You will die constantly. I think they could have done better with upping the difficulty a little better at each level. The difference between the easiest setting and the next on up is extreme. The entire game feels more like the plane level on MW on any setting.
The weapon selection for everything but pistols is great. You can’t pick you load out but you will come across so many weapons that finding one you like isn’t an issue. Many of the weapons are kitted out with optics and whatnot similar to the multiplayer mode in MW. There is also a huge assortment of weapons in the game. Where I find them lacking is in the pistol department, there are plenty of M9s, USPs, G18s and Desert Eagles, but it doesn’t come anywhere close to the selection avilable for long arms. As hard as they worked to focus on accuracy I don’t know why they felt it fit to are the US Army Rangers with Desert Eagle pistols. Their incorporation of the UAV is very well done but it doesn’t take you out of the fight the same way the AC130 level did in the first one.
The story is well told and the voice acting is good. But the story is way out there, more James Bond super villain than modern military action like the first one way. There are plenty of twists and turns in the story but I think they could have done it better. The ending in particular is poor for a military style FPS. While you really felt like a military man or SOF operators in the first on the story for the second doesn’t do it quite as well. I wish they would have stuck more with the Tom Clancy style of plausible story than what they came up with. The campaign is also painfully short, even more so than Modern Warfare. To be fair many player will pick up MW2 almost exclusively for the online play, but they showed in Modern Warfare that it was possible to craft an amazing and accurate campaign and muliplayer in one package.
The online play is great and I have had no issues with maps or the network yet. The ladders to unlock weapons and attachment is nothing new to MW vets and is done fairly well. I have issue with the heartbeat sensor, but that might just be me. The Special Forces mode is a good addition for people who prefer to play with their friends against the computer than to play against other players online. Though the SF mission are insanely hard, even on the lowest setting. They also don’t have the same ‘feel’ of the campaign which is good I guess, but it makes it feel more arcade like than COD usually does. People who are prone to throw controllers might want to have some extras on hand for the veteran level setting.
The only thing about this game that disappoints me is the lack of coop campaign play. There is no point in the campaign where you find yourself all alone or where it would be odd to have a human controlled squad mate. I am glad they made the Special Ops mode and it is a lot of fun. But playing through the huge world changing campaign would only be made better if you could live it out with your best buddy online. If they could make it work in COD:WaW I know that they could have been done even better in Modern Warfare 2.
All said Modern Warfare 2 is a great game, good multiplayer, good campaign and well polished controls. Does it live up to the hype surronding the game? I don’t think so, its a great game, but I don’t think it stood a chance with as much as it was hyped. Is it a great new addition to the COD series? absolutely. Will it the best shooter of 2009, I don’t know but it will be hard to beat. It is definietly one of the best shooter of the year, if not one of the betters ones ever made. If you are a COD fan already you’ve probably already got the game in your console. If you are sitting the fence and your a fan of the FPS you shouldn’t miss this game.
Worthy of being a sequel
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Video game sequels tend to be different from movie sequels in that usually they offer many improvements over the original. In the case of this game this is true. The graphics seem much better, the AI seems smarter and don’t resort to simply throwing endless grenades on Veteran difficulty but instead use better tactics (crawling to flank you unseen or tossing a flashbang into your cover and attacking). One complaint I have though is the campaign seems shorter than the previous game, I managed to beat the game in 7.5 hours on Veteran with only a few levels offering me real trouble. The online mode of this game (with the added Special Ops mode) more than makes up for the short campaign. I would recommend the Xbox360 or PS3 versions over the PC for multiplayer as I’ve heard nothing but bad things about matchmaking and hacking. This game is one that can keep you occupied for years, or at least until the next Modern Warfare game is released.
What else is there to say?

Title says it all.
Amazon had this delivered at my home the day of release, along with the $20 credit for a future game. What a deal!
For FPS peeps that haven’t got it yet, what are you waiting for?!
Great graphics, could have improved on some areas of the multiplayer gameplay
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
The graphics in this game are awesome. Some of the best I have seen in a game. If you are a big online multiplayer (XBOX Live), they still have some of the same issues as they had before that make it frustrating to play. (ie. respawning near or in front of enemy units, guns that take too many shots at close range to kill, and more.) The campaing is fun. But, I think once I am finished, I’ll be back to playing the multiplayer on COD:WAW.
The Greatest Shooter game to date!!!

I have played all three levels, and have almost completed veteran,WOW!!! This game takes your breath away. I love games like this. A pure stroke of genius for the creators of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Hardened Edition. What will you think of next, because when you do, I pray I will be there. Thanks again for this wonderful game.
Modern Warfare is More Fun Than Ever
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I was really anticipating this game when it arrived on my doorstep. The first Modern Warfare was such a great game and I expected no less from its sequel. I was not disappointed. Though I found the prompt for the “questionable scene” more questionable than the scene itself, the game had no real issues that I could find. There were a fair amount of story elements that you could appreciate more if you played through the first one. Even so, the game stands alone as a great first-person shooter. Multiplayer is the standard Call of Duty type. I don’t really have any complaints; it’s a great game and I would highly recommend it to those interested in first-person shooters.
Great game, albeit a little over hyped.
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Modern Warfare 2. One of the most anticipated games of all time. Infinity Ward set the bar extremely high with their first installation of COD4: Modern Warfare. Do they meet that mark, or is modern warfare 2 an overhyped money machine?
Story: Just like in other COD games, you play in the shoes of multiple people throughout the story. You play as part of the marines and task force 141. This time around you play a guy named “Roach.” Mctavish from the previous game (AKA Soap) is now your CO, and you are yet again on your way to saving the world. So the story is kind of ‘meh.’ It’s cool that you can go to all these random places all within the span of 5-6 hours, but seriously. The game seems so scattered. The storyline makes sense, as long as you don’t miss anything, but I’m not sure I get everything. There are amazing action sequences and the shootouts are great. But the story could have been better.
Graphics: IW did some improvements to the COD4 engine. This game looks a lot better. There is more destructible environment doodads, enemies are more detailed, guns are amazingly detailed, lighting has made a huge improvement. The game is breathtaking in campaign mode. Looking across the ocean in a helicopter is an experience that I would like to have in real life.
Gameplay: The game plays just like COD4, but a little easier in campaign mode. they removed that ‘unlimited spawn’ crap. You can actually clear out an area before moving on, rather than having to run forward and taking the chance that you will get torn apart by bullets, randomly. It makes the game a lot more enjoyable, realistic and less of a grind. There are a ton more guns in the game, including machine pistols, shotguns, launchers (not just the RPG like last game), different rifles, TONS of attachments (nearly ever gun has 5-7 attachments now) with a bunch of new ones, like heartbeat monitors and thermal scopes.
Multiplayer: This game is a jewel for multiplayer. The depth that IW added to the game is amazing. There are probably 5 or 6 times more challenges to complete than in COD4. This gives you a lot of incentive to keep playing. finishing an challenge or unlocking a new attachment gives you a sense of accomplishment that makes you come back for more. The matchmaking on Xbox360 is not bad, although it can have some issues with parties and what not. Guns in quake mode seem to kill much faster in this game, than in COD4. You no longer need to pump a guy with a full clip to kill him. The game’s pace feels a bit faster and there are more factions that you can play as. The maps are varied in location and you will undoubtedly find favorites (mine is the sub base). Prestige adds another dimension to the game, allowing you to reset your challenges and unlocks to get a cool emblem by your name. The newest addition to the game is emblems and titles. These unlock for finishing certain challenges and can be very cool titles. The emblems are like avatars and are unlocked in a similar fashion. Perks also have been changed around. Perks now have a normal and pro level. The pro level of the perk gives an additional benefit to the normal effect and are unlocked by doing the associated challenge. For example, stead aim increases hip fire accuracy, the pro version also gives you longer hold breath time. In this way, the perks so of merge many of the perks that were found in the last game. Finally, MW2 adds in the concept of unlockable kill streaks and the idea of deathstreaks. There are MANY more killstreaks available than in COD4. You can now call in air drops, predator missiles, AC130′s and even a nuke (if you’re good enough
). It offers for some great feelings when you call in an AC130 and control the guns to kill people on the ground.
Finally, the spec ops mode. IW added in a new mode called Spec Ops. This pits you and a friend to complete isolated missions of varying difficulty. You get stars for completing them, 1 for regular, 2 for hardened and 3 for veteran difficulty. There are 69 stars total. The missions vary from evade and extract, kill all the enemies, survive along a set path, and even two missions where one player controls a gunner from overhead and the other is on the ground moving on foot. Spec Ops is loads of fun with a buddy and offers for some OH SNAP moments. You can also play by yourself, but whats the fun in that?
Overall I really am enjoying this game. I sold the COD classic code on ebay for more than it is going now (XBLA has it for $15, I sold for $20). The hardened edition has a cool picture book and the case is very sturdy and a nice addition to my game library. If you want a great fps, with action, depth and hours of fun, GET THIS GAME.

A great game, but it lost a little something on the way
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 makes a lot of great advances in both the shooter genre and Call of Duty franchise, but at the same time loses a bit of what made Call of Duty, well, Call of Duty. It is a great game, and a great Call of Duty game, but doesn’t feel like it stepped forward in all the ways one could hope from what previous games have done.
The first Modern Warfare game was unquestionably a blockbuster smash hit, with record sales for the time and really bringing the Call of Duty series into the limelight of shooters along side games such as Halo. It was a vast improvement from the previous installation(CoD 3), much like CoD 2 had done after the birth of series in the first Call of Duty game. With a history of leaping advances in the series both technically and artistically Infinity Ward has not only set a high standard in terms of the game made, but also the game expected next. Modern Warfare 2, while an amazing game that does make strides forward, loses a bit of its soul in the process and falls slightly short of what one could expect.
Once one jumps into the game the technical improvements will be immediately visible. The game has great sound, and the visuals are some of the best I’ve ever seen. The game is full of awe-inspiring moments during the fighting where I would stop to take in the beauty, my favorite of which came during the battle for D.C. The re-recorded gun effects sound great, and the voice acting is top notch as always with many returning actors from before. And is it just me or does Ghost sound and act exactly like Gaz?
The biggest complaint on the technical side of the game has been the length of the campaign, which I will admit is rather short, though it took me quite a bit longer than most people have said. Thanks to the in game stats clock I could see the campaign clocked in at around 8 hours for me, but then again I am a notoriously slow gamer. While 8 hours is short, and the length of games in general has been getting shorter than I feel is acceptable, the addition of the Spec Ops missions vastly increases the length of the single player experience. While Spec Ops doesn’t fit in with the main story line, they are a set of 23 seperate missions which can be played solo for the most part or in co-op. The best way to describe them is to compare them with the Mile High mission at the end of MW1. It wasn’t part of the main story, but was rather a side mission that was detached. They are rather fun missions, and with their addition, the single player campaign component of the game should move up to 12-16 hours, which is still short compared to many other games, but does clock in at longer than the average big name shooter that seems to come out these days.
The multi-player is the real winner in terms of length. With an addictive leveling system and new game types one could easily spend months playing MW2 multiplayer alone. The multiplayer offers a chaotic, fast paced experience which feels much like a meat grinder. Though I spent quite a bit of time dying, it never got to me since I was always right back into the action after a brief spawn time and back to killing. The part that will probably suck you in the most is the constant immediate gratification as there is always one more challenge to accomplishment, another level to reach, another game mode or weapon to unlock. The feeling of constant progress through the unlockables worked well in the previous two Call of Duty games, and with the addition of titles and badges there is an even greater amount of content to unlock.
While the game made serious progress on the technical side, I feel like it lost some of what made Call of Duty Call of Duty to begin with. The game is almost as dark and brooding as World at War, which in my opinion is a good thing. Unfortunately the writers took it a bit far as Captain Price will go off on poetic tangents during briefings that seem so far off from the man who before was screaming to get back on your feet whenever you fell. The plot also suffers from becoming complicated, or disjointed. I’m not sure which yet. At certain points in the game characters will do things, big things, plot changing things, for what seems like absolutely no reason and isn’t ever explained that well. Call of Duty games have always been rather thin on plot: there is an enemy, we’re going to go kill the enemy. It works. That’s what the game is based around. Rushing head long into the waiting arms of death. MW2 breaks away from that formula to give a plot full of betrayal and twists which just don’t work. Ernest Hemmingway once said “kill your darlings” in reference to story telling, which meant to take out the things you find to be genius and full of subtetly because more often than not it’s so subtle only you understand it because you told the story. The game is full of “darlings” that I’m sure sounded great to those who had the why explained to them, but forgot about the rest of the world. The last comment I’ll make on the heart and soul of the game is that it also gave up too much on one of its key game components: the headlong rush into death. I can appreciate the games focus on Task Force 141, a special operations unit that operates independently, but the previous games have been about one man in an army, a rush of soldiers pressing forward. In MW2 you’ll more often than not find yourself in a small unit of men, or sometimes simply alone for long periods, which just doesn’t feel right.
For all its faults I will say this about Modern Warfare 2, it is an amazing game. If it were a new intellectual property I would have been blown away by the game. But it wasn’t, and with a history to follow Modern Warfare 2 isn’t all that it could have been. It is still a great Call of Duty game, and an incredible game that stands head and shoulders above most shooters you’ll find out there. At the same time, the Call of Duty series lost a bit of its soul since the last installment. It has all the moves, it can walk the walk, it can talk the talk, but it just don’t have that funk.
For those people who’ve managed to make it this far in life without playing a Call of Duty game I’d say go right ahead and pick up the game. You’ll find an incredible single player exprience packed with action and an addictive multiplayer to give you your money’s worth. If you’re like myself, a twenty something that grew up the series, I’d still say go out and pick up the game. It’s Call of Duty, and it’s still amazing. It is by no means a step down, it just didn’t advance as far as we’ve seen in some of the previous installments.
Review of HARDENED EDITION contents
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I wont bother reviewing the game itself as there are plenty of reivews up for it. Needless to say, it is phenomenal. The $20 credit on Amazon is awesome, and the main reason I buy games from Amazon.
For an additional $20 over the regular addition of the game, the Hardened Edition contains:
The game packaged in a Steelbook case with a very short, black and white manual
An art book
A card/token for a free download of the original Call of Duty
+The original Call of Duty was previously only available on PC. I havent seen a price for it yet, but I’m guessing it will sell for $15 on XBLA and PSN. There is a lengthy single player campaign, as well as 24 player multi-player. The value of the Hardened Edition completly depends on if you’re interested in playing Call of Duty 1. I beat the game for PC years ago, and it’s great. It will remind you of the old Medal of Honor games, and after playing it on my XBOX 360, it seems the graphics, sound effects, and the story have held up relatively well. I think most Call of Duty fans will enjoy the original and will be glad they played it.
+The art book is about 38 pages, and it’s interesting. It actually has commentary from the developers at Infinity Ward, not just pictures. I am really enjoying Modern Warfare 2, so for me it was worth checking out the art book and getting some additional insight into the game. For example, it looks like Infinity Ward originally planned a motorcycle chase through the streets of Washington DC (or possibly Brazil), but it didnt make the final game.
+I love the steelbook. It is the coolest steelbook I have seen, possibly only rivaled by the Gears of War 2 steelbook in the limited edition. It combines colors like gunmetal and black, with a gold and green Modern Warfare 2 logo on the front. The picture on the front is of a soldier, kind of like the regular version of the game, but with cooler colors. The back of the Steelbook is a picture of the White House. If you have never seen a Steelbook before, it is about the same size as a normal XBOX 360 game case, but instead of plastic it is metal. The hinges are heavy duty, the inside is made of very nice and thick plastic, and the case closes perfectly. A Steelbook alone isn’t enough to justify much of an additional cost to a game, but when combined with other items in a “special edition” is a cool and collectable item for fans of the game.
-The only thing I would have liked to see in addition to what is in the Hardened Edition is a dvd with some extra content. This could have included some documentary-style “making of…” videos detailing the development of Modern Warfare 2, in addition to some music, concept art, and so on. I think a dvd like that would have added much more value for your extra $20, but unfortunately is not included.
Thank you for reading!

As a Retired Army /Air Force enlisted and Officer in the U.S.Military over 21 yrs. and combat , this game is fun but i agree with the individual in Iraq , we ( the U.S. ) are the bad guys, the same U.S. that saved many of a foreign countries ass,cut and dry,did not like ending at all , 2 many questions ,this is my 3rd C.O.D. game and my son has them all..is it me or have we truly become a nation playing the political correctness game in every facet of life now, it started with Bush getting a little or a lot (depending) sending us to Iraq (uncalled for)then Obama who is a hell of a lot more nuttier and more dangerous ,on his apology tours, damn i should be president as an independent.. But getting back to this hardened edition ,should have at least had a making of dvd, well i was glad to see the fighting in the U.S. ,could happen..fun game but total B.S. on my country or yours depending where you live ,being the evil meanies ,enuff said..
the reason i said the campaign is 2 short is i DO NOT play online…
Live with anyone or have the time ,every game now is multiplayer.and before all you so called great gamers post your discussions ,save it, i won’t reply here anyway.i own at least 6 working systems..and the games hitting the 360 do not live much up to the ole xbox or whatever systems ,before all this live crap, give me 5 yrs.ago when you got the entire game at once..Graphics in this game are top notch ….
Modern Warfare 2
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’m going to keep this review short and sweet and right away say Modern Warfare 2 is without a doubt 2009′s game of the year and could arguably be the greatest shooter of all time. Although the campaign is a bit cramped at just around 4-6 hours, the high intensity action across all 3 game modes (campaign, multiplayer and the all-new spec ops) makes Modern Warfare 2 the most adrenaline pumping, heart racing shooter I have ever played. I guess you could say Infinity Ward brought out the big guns with this release, and have made this title an instant classic that you must experience for yourself. I picked up the hardened edition at midnight and although I wouldn’t say the $80 price tag is worth the small amount of bonus content, I couldn’t resist spoiling myself for the game I have been anticipating since I finished Modern Warfare on release day 2007.
I will leave a detailed review to somebody who actually has time to write one out instead of spending the time playing this unbelievable game! For now though, go get this game if you haven’t already…you absolutely will NOT be let down.
PC Player? DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Infinity Ward could care less about the PC world of hard-core gaming. They have completely dismissed the PC community in the pursuit of profits. My issues are as follows as it relates to the multiplayer:
- No dedicated servers. I.W. wants you to goto their .net servers that have very little or NO oversight for cheaters and hackers.
- No more than 9 vs. 9 per server.
- Players are placed on servers by rank and score.
- Pay for MAP PACKS.
- Pay for access.
- You are forced to play with bunny-hopp’n, dolphin-flopp’n, running around with their head ‘cut-off’ type of players.
- No admin to manage the game for people that do not follow the rules.
- No such thing as a mod’d server.
- No custom maps.
Great job Infitiy Ward is completly dismissing the PC community in the pursuit of profits instead of putting out a quality gaming experience for all.
Above and beyond the Call of Duty.

Far and away better than the first Modern Warfare. This game pushes the limits and increases everything to 11.
Personally the most fun will be in Spec Ops. Grab a friend and go through Hell together.
Online is so dense. They added so much and it will be fun to play though.
Excellent, if short, single player too.
Graphics, blood, mayhem, and politics! (May contain Spoliers)

I spent a good portion of my Veterans Day playing Modern Warfare 2 and I must express my disappointment. This game was a huge let down for me and I’m not really a Call of Duty/Modern Warfare fan. I didn’t start playing until a year ago, while I was finishing a deployment in Iraq and we were reduced to going to the gym and playing video games (missions were run at the request and support of the local police which means we didn’t get out much and I got very good at games I’d never played before).
I’m not sure what it is, I’m not sure why in the end the US military always has to be the bad guys, but its growing increasingly tiresome. There are enough “bad guys” in the world that I don’t understand the requirement that we spend the last several levels of a game killing American soldiers.
Maybe I missed something, which is possible given the disjointed nature of the story telling in the game. Maybe I missed the key point, the moment in which suddenly America is so monstrous and horrible that the game designers can justify the transition of fresh faced kids fighting to defend family and country into horrid creatures that not only witness the murder of fellow soldiers, but actively participate it. I’m an American Soldier and I’d like to think that if I just watched my commanding officer whack two SF guys I’d do something about it, rather than dousing their bodies in gasoline so he can torch the remains. I really wonder when such things became PC in western socities.
Yes, the game is that graphic. Which is neither a good thing or a bad thing. If you don’t care about the gore factor, then the game is fine. If you can’t stand gore, then you’ve been warned.
So why two stars and not one?
The game is very playable, the graphics are beautiful, and the weapons impressive. You also get to do some pretty “cool stuff”, like scaling an ice flow, rocketing down a river in a zodiac, battling through the blasted remains of Washington DC, lowering yourself down a cliff face to take out a patrol with a knife, and last but not least in what is possible the most insanely blood drinking bad*** moves I’ve seen in a video game you get to pull a knife from your gut and finish off a “boss”.
I just hope I’ll be half as hardcore in my next deployment.

after playing waw for the past year i was really looking forward for this game until i actually played it the story mode was fun but that’s it spec ops is boring the online multiplayer feels like a tom clancy game theres no more run and gun its all about camping which you will experience allot and then gets slow when both team camps and if thats not enough the camper with the best strategy or camping spot gets rewarded with a nuke that wins the game for them regardless of which team is in the lead.matchmaking takes forever to find a match and if the host dashboards or signs out the game suddenly ends giving both teams a loss.ive had many friends return their games back to gamestop due to allot of problems but mainly cuz their tired of getting owned by camping noobs, oh btw they didnt reset the so all the boosters and peaple that had the game before the release hold all the leader boards.so if you like getting camped and nuked by campers go ahead ull love the game.thanks infinity ward for breaking my heart 3
