Okay but annoying
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I really like tycoon type games, but the Cake Mania’s have never been a favorite. I downloaded this since it is available now for free and have found that while it is relatively easy at the starting levels, it gets very hard further in the game. It can also be very tedious at points. You have to be fast and make no mistakes once you get close to the end. That said, I will play this until I beat it but it is still not one I love. After playing the 2nd and 3rd versions of this game, I prefer them as there are better additions than the first.
Not Bad

i like these kind of games, this one isnt too bad, it gives you a lot of upgrade options and all but i finished the game pretty fast. Cake Mania 2 is much better, it just keeps going!!
Annoying Customers
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I’m in my early 20s, and I find this game to be quite entertaining… at first. It’s up to about 10 levels in that I find this game to be VERY repetitive and annoying. First of all, I have to deal with annoying customers all day, and I don’t need a game that gives me even more rude customers to deal with. Second of all, you do a lot of point-and-click work, which gets old really quick. There is no real objective to each level of this game other than to make ends meet. I do not recommend this game to anyone who has to deal with bad customers for a living. And unless you want to prepare your children to enter minimum-waged, hectic sales positions when they grow up, keep this game away from your children as well.
Cake Mania Review

There is a review for this product that only criticizes the Amazon downloader. First and foremost the reviews are intended to provide insight on a product, not a delivery method. I would hate to see reviews on a book that say the shipping guy came in for coffee and hung out, when you try to kick him out he takes your book as well. I would venture a guess that you were too busy thinking of ways to get the delivery guy out of the house to even crack the spine.
Second, I am a computer professional and have over ten years of experience in the field. Anyone who has an issue with the Amazon downloader is a novice and an amateur. You see, Amazon has a problem in that they want to distribute digital products in a method that maintains the producers right to profit and the users desire for ease of use. When you go through trying to circumvent the system because you are a paranoid nut, of course you will have issues. By the way, the real reason your stuff was missing is because they are executables and the restore point without those will remove them. An installation file is not a document to Windows, rather a potential reason for your use of the restore point.
You are using your computer wrong if you set a restore point for every little thing you download from a known and reliable source. Restore points are ideally for major system upgrades, hardware changes, and software with an unknown origin.
Also, there is an option in the downloader to not boot with the computer, and also the ability to select the download location. I would suggest going over software thoroughly to verify that it doesn’t have the features you need before you go nuts and start using Windows Restore point. Ultimately, Amazon wants you to buy from them, they provide this tool so buying is easy, and they make it customizable enough so you don’t uninstall it and continue to make purchases.
If you are also a computer nerd who knows what they are talking about, please thumbs up this so that it takes precedence to the previous paranoid reviewer.
Third, Cake Mania is alright. Not great, not bad, three stars, I rated five so that my three star rank is achieved by evening out the 1-star review of the Downloader.
Light-hearted Veg Material: Had Fun in Spite of Myself
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
A simple concept, but levels up in difficulty pretty fast. I kind of felt like I was waiting tables again. You are in a store where you make cakes of 4 different shapes and colors. You can buy toppers for the cakes to make more money, or faster ovens and frosting machines with which to earn more money, faster.
It is mildly addicting, completely G-rated, and fast paced. I liked the game because every now and then I need a game to unwind with; this fits the bill. This one is quick to learn, has some strategy and skills required, but is fairly simple. Oddly, after making so many “cakes” I had a sense of satisfaction, as if I had genuinely accomplished something. It has decent graphics and is pleasant to look at; it’s cute. A good game for older children. This would get to be too challenging (from a speed standpoint) for children younger than 8 – 10, depending on their ability to rise to a challenge.
This is a good game for younger kids on the lower levels, but they would be defeated pretty early on as it picks up pace fairly quickly. The game requires a combination of skill (natural logistics capability) and luck. It says it has 48 levels, but I didn’t get past 15 (I think I got that high…) If your kids can’t handle the disappointment of losing yet, then take caution and/or forewarn them that the game is difficult to win. My young daughter was attracted to the game, but she would not be able to keep up with it for more than 3 levels of play. A more suitable game (and similar in terms of shape/color matching) would be the Reader Rabbit Learning Adventures for kids (which I think I also reviewed.)
Okay But Graphics Could be Better
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I have to say that I have been spoiled by playing Diner Dash. The graphics in that game are so much better than Cake Mania.
If I had never played Diner Dash, this might be a little more fun but in comparison, it is a disappointment.
There is just not enough variety, even though you can add equipment (it seems too hard to earn enough money in a timely manner to buy upgrades at a decent rate). And the challenge is a little boring after awhile. Don’t get me wrong, it is hard to keep up after a bit but it is not as fun of a challenge.
There doesn’t seem to be enough detail in graphics either. Movement is a little awkward.
Conclusion: Mediocre at best, good for a few minutes of amusement while on hold.
Gets old REALLY FAST
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
It is much like diner dash, except with less to do, and way more boring. It gets old within 10 minutes, and I don’t foresee me ever playing it again. She makes the cakes for people, you go through several processes and gives them to people, it is like a “rush” except sometimes you are clicking here and there and the b*tch doesn’t even do what you tell her to do! Go ahead and get it if it is free, but I would not pay 50 cents for this game.
Addictive game

My wife bought this and loves it…played it non stop for a few nights. Best of all the game was free. Can’t get much better than that.
Addictive game
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This game may seem childish for some but after a while you will find yourself addicted to it. It’s simple but challenging. Overall, a great product and well worth the price.
Challenging to be sure
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I love this game. It is so hard though. If you like the rush you will like this game. It is awesome.
Quite addicting, IMHO
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
PROS:
- fun and addicting, you just want to beat “one more level”
- very easy to learn, but hard to master (especially at higher levels)
CONS:
- slightly repetitive
- a few annoying quirks make you accidentally bake the wrong cake, wrong frosting color, etc and you can’t undo the press
BOTTOM LINE:
I enjoy the game itself and will be playing it again but i’m not sure i’d spend more than a few dollars on it
A good starting Time Management Game
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This was the first game of this type (time management) I’ve tried. I found that I really enjoyed the type of challenge these types of games present, so I thank Cake Mania for that.
At the time I played it I really liked it, but there are a lot of other games of this type out there that are better, including Cake Mania II and III. Once you play II and III, there is no going back to this one. I tried to play the original Cake Mania again recently and it and it is so simplistic by comaparison both in presentation and game flow that I was a bit bored by it.
So all in all, if you have never played this type of game before this is a good place to start. If you have, skip directly to Cake Mania III.
Multitasking a series of repetitive tasks but… where’s the fun?
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
The purpose of the game is to make money buy baking and selling cakes. It’s your mission in life because the ‘big box’ store were unfair competition and, by working hard, you will outcompete them.
The customers will order a specific shape and frosting and they will pay you once the product is delivered. You get a tip if you deliver the cake in a timely fashion or you may lose the customer if you make them wait for too long.
The cycle goes like this:
- hand over the menu
- the customer picks shape and frosting
- bake the requested shape
- apply the frosting
- hand it over to customer
- pick up the money
It gets pretty frantic once you have more than 2 customers waiting and you need to optimize and multitask. You are successful if you meet your dollar target by the end of the day. The pace gets increasingly frantic as the game progresses.
That’s just about it.
I can’t say that the game has a high replay value and, unless someone is absolutely determined to run through the same repetitive cycle at a frantic pace, the motivation to advance is not that great.
On the good side, the graphics are okay in a cartoon/comics-style way. I’m afraid there’s not much else to say. I don’t believe I will play this game again. In fact, since neither my 6 yr. girl or my tween boys expressed any interest in it, I will probably uninstall it. Which, by the way, it’s okay because I can always get it back from my Amazon-maintained downloads library.
Nothing is free, Amazon Downloader is invasive to computer.
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I thought it was strange that I needed to install a downloader to get a ‘free’ game, so I created a restore point on my computer first. First thing I noticed is that the Amazon Downloader stays resident in your computer even when you reboot. I downloaded the ‘Amazon Downloader’ and then downloaded Cake Mania. I also ‘downloaded’ another free game using the Amazon Downloader. Using Windows Explorer I copied the downloaded game setup files to a totally seperate and private folder where I have other personal files in my computer. Then I manually exited the Amazon Downloader program (it even warned me that by doing so I would not be able to download any more games until I run it again or reboot). Then I went to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and ‘completely’ removed Amazon Downloader. Then I restored my system settings using System Restore. Lo and behold, not only were the downloaded games missing from the Amazon folder in My Documents, but the ‘Amazon Downloader’ kept track of the files I copied into a seperate private folder, and it DELETED those files from my personal file folder before uninstalling. I WOULD NOT TRUST THIS AMAZON DOWNLOADER OR ANY OTHER RESIDENT PROGRAM THAT CLAIMS TO GIVE YOU SOMETHING FOR NOTHING. YOU WILL ALWAYS PAY. THEY HAVE BECOME CONfidence ARTISTS AND FOOLED YOU INTO INSTALLING AN INTRUSIVE PROGRAM INTO YOUR COMPUTER. I am disappointed since Amazon had gained my trust as a customer for years but now I wonder what they have done with my personal information and history. Shame on Amazon.
Cake Mania – Free Download
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I downloaded this game for free from Amazon for my 9 year old daughter to play, but she seems a litle bored with it. The game is cute and has nice graphics. Maybe it’s just not intersting to my child. I hope yours enjoys it more.
