This unit is exactly what we were looking for, because the newer models of ps3, are all coming out without the backward compatibilities. We are very happy!! Thanks!
PlayStation 3 80 GB Metal Gear Solid 4 Pack
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I was lucky enough to get this pack maybe 2 or 3 weeks after it came out. The Metal Gear Pack was the reason I got the PS3 and the backwards compatibly was a big plus, especially if you have a lot of PS1 and 2 games. My PS2 was basically dying after about 7 or so years of use, and at the time it was hard to find the 60 GB. Granted some people don’t care about the backwards compatibility and all of that stuff, but I find just find it backwards for Sony to release the higher GB capacity models without this feature and the extra usb slots, etc, etc.
I have had no problems with my PS3 thus far. I will say that they are heavy as hell, but other than that it is really a great machine. I haven’t really brought too many blu-rays yet, I don’t really care about that right now, but when DVD becomes obsolete I won’t be left out in the cold, and plus the PS3s are cheaper than a lot of the blu ray players.
The PS3 plays just about any music format, video format, I love being able to use a sd card or a flash drive and import music, video, pictures to my PS3. I haven’t been online with it yet, because I really haven’t had the interest to, plus the free online is a big plus for when I finally decide to. Good call on Sony.
Only minor problem I would say is with some of the backwards compatibility issues. Not with the games so much but with the data. First if you want to import your PS2 memory card data to your PS3 hard drive you will needed to purchase a memory converter which isn’t bad for 15 dollars, and you connect it with your controller usb cord, very easy to upload. However, I’ve noticed on some of the late PS2 cycle games such as Yakuza 2, Persona 3 Fes that sometimes the virtual memory card will inexplicably erase your data sometimes. This has pissed me off with both games I have mentioned, not so much with the latter because I saved multiple times after the incident with losing my half completed Yakuza 2 data. The remedy for this is to save multiple times, especially for rpg titles, plus you can make just about an infinite number of virtual memory cards as back ups just in case.
I think this glitch comes from the fact this model of the PS3 uses emulation while the older backwards compatible models used something called the emotion engine if my memory serves me correct, so with the PS2 games sometimes it’s not spot on. For example Fire Pro Wrestling The Returns and Matrix The Path Of Neo sometimes have a shimmer in the screen and sometimes it doesn’t but probably do to the PS2 engine, but these are just small issues. A large majority of the games are no problem and the PS1 games work flawless.
All and all a good system, and a great purchase, I never thought I would pay $500 dollars(plus getting GTA 4, and the memory card converter), but looking back it, it was a good investment. I am glad that I got this particular bundle and I enjoy it everyday, specially since I can use my full PS1-2 library as well. I say if you have the money to spare, it is well the price. Plus you can always upgrade the hard drive yourself
The last of the 90 nanometer Cell

Although my first PS3 was a 60GB model that was purchased back in May ’07 I reliased that this bundle is becoming a rare breed since it was discontinoued.
Compared to the first batches of the 40GB (sold the 60GB and purchased this one in Nov ’07) units which boasted the smaller and cooler running Cell processor (65nm Vs 90nm) this unit has a better quality components especially the KEM-400AAA lens assembly that broke down after just 13 month of moderate use. It turned out that S*** shipped the first 40GB models with very low quality lenses that had a high rate of premature fialure rate (it was later replaced with the KEM-410ACA assembly.
lastly, the bundled 80GB model shares the same processor of the good old 60GB meaning it will get hot under severe usage contrary to the 40GB and the current 80/160GB models. I am planning to store this unit till my 40GB unit dies on me again. I just paid over $600 to obtain this model which is becoming more and more expensive compared to its launch price of $500.
Cheers

The price is okay. You gotta pay what you have to since their outta production. All I can say is it plays PS3 and almost all PS2 games. What more could one require.
Glad I picked this up…

before Sony discontinued this model. Enjoying LBP, GTAIV, Killzone and many other PS3 games and PSN games. Just the matter of upgrading to a big screen HDTV, to get the full performance from this system.
Good job Sony.
Buy this if you want BC

If you have a library for PS2 games, you better get this. Sony ain’t making them no more.
Best you can buy for a reasonable price.

Ok first of all, this system is the exact system that came bundled with the 80gb Motorstorm bundle, incase you were wondering because i was wondering that myself before i bought it, I bought the system a week ago and apparently you can’t get it from Amazon anymore, and that was the least expensive way at only at $499.99 now the lowest I have found is $630 if you want a new one that is. But I think besides the 60gb this is the best PS3 you can get at a semi-decent price since the cheapest 60gb one I can find was $949. Overall it can do everything the 60gb can except it doesn’t have the same emotion engine, it runs PS2 games of software emulation, not hardware and according to the Sony representative it has about 70-80% backwards compatability, instead of the 98% on the 60gb. Also at least this system comes with an awesome dualshock 3 controller instead of that crappy sixaxis. Oh, and it has has f****** Solid Snake on the box!!!!
The Best PS3 on the Market!!!!!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I was looking into buying a PS3 for awhile now, but was shopping around. I learned that PS3′s can play PSONE games, but not PS2 games. However, there are some models out there that do play them. This is one of those models. I bought the equipment to transfer my game saves from my PS2 and PS1 consoles, and now am fully upgraded for the new generation!
I own a Xbox 360 and a Wii. Out of the three systems, if you are looking for a media powerhouse and the best graphics on the market, this is your system. If you enjoy the online gaming and exculsives such as Gears of War and Halo, go with the Xbox 360. While PS3 offers free online membership, it still does not compete with Microsoft. However, Sony is quickly making a good run and I’m sure they will soon be able to match Microsoft!!! Xbox 360 and PS3 are both great buys, but this bundle takes the trophy.
This bundle also contains a Dualshock 3 Sixaxis controller, Metal Gear Solid 4 (10/10 on Gameinformer meaning it is one of the best games ever created), 4 USB Ports (The other PS3′s only have 2) an SD, Compact Flash, and a Memory Duo slot (Other PS3′s do not have SD, Flash, or Duo slots), a built in wireless gaming adapter, built in Blu-Ray player, 80GB Hard Drive (You can upgrade it without voiding the Warranty at your local Best Buy or do it yourself), all included out of the box. The model number is CECHE01. All you need is an HDMI cord for Hi-Def gaming and you are set!!
Sony does not make this model anymore, and there are very few left! Amazon has them BRAND NEW right now, but won’t for much longer. DO NOT hesitate if you want to buy a PS3, but not sure which one to get. THIS IS IT!!!!!

I love this Metal Gear Solid 4/PS3 combo. It is a lot of fun. I appreciate it a lot. Thank you
Pure bliss so far.

I’ve long held out on a PS3 because
1 – I thought the Xbox360 was superior – better games and Xbox Live is unparalleled
2 – Cost and lack of that many games on PS3
Now, after seeing the MGS4 bundle back on the Amazon site In Stock, I couldn’t resist and went for it.
So, here’s my feedback from the perspective of my wife who is really not that technical or cares for electronics. I got her involved in the “Unboxing” – a term she didn’t know about or cared about
but seeing the PS3 unboxed really made her eyes shine. The slick piano black surface is captivating and the unit feels like it has finesse and class. “Elegance” is what my wife said.
Anyways, after booting it up and playing the demo blu-ray video in 1080i ( not even 1080p although its very tough to tell any diff ), she was hooked by the PlanetEarth trailer thats on it.
I played a quick game and I was mesmerized too. I mean, I have an Xbox360 for the past 3 1/2 years and I’m still giddy with a system that released almost 3 years ago. The PS3 is pretty good.
I fired up Tversity on my PC and it now is a media server to the HD TV. This simple operation felt satisfying.
I connected my PSP to the PS3 and lo ! via RemotePlay I’m connected to the PS3 switching it on and off remotely. That is insane ( it probably has the WOL pkt technology for this ).
The PSN store seems nice and friendly like the Xbox Live Store. Both have comparable features. One nice thing is the PSN is free. However, for $4.25/month, the Xbox360 is a steal and probably the best online service. I like the Xbox Live here over PSN, albeit only marginally. 0
I am excited that I can install Fedora Linux on it tomorrow as well !!!
The games are also pretty nice HOWEVER, I must say that somehow I am preferring the Xbox360 for gaming more than the PS3. Gaming feels gritty and raw and enriching on the Xbox360 ( only slightly more so than the PS3 though ). For everything else, PS3 feels supreme. Who knows, in a year or so, PS3 may overtake the Xbox360 in my house as the gaming king as well.
Overall, I am quite satisfied with the PS3.
Blu-Ray, built-in Wifi and couple of other features make this a must have. However, here are a couple of puzzling drawbacks or missteps Sony made with the PS3 – This system is being marketed as more than a gaming device, its being marketed as a complete home entertainment system with BluRay and all BUT –
1 – it doesn’t include HDMI cables ??? and not even Component. It comes with SD Composite cables. This is a blunder.
2 – it doesn’t include a BluRay remote ??? What @!# Its supposed to be a BluRay player and it doesn’t come with a remote ? I mean, its a built-in prime feature, not an add-on feature but one of the primary draws…
I understand its all to make more money on accessories, but this is where they could’ve sold on these points more. Its like buying a DVD player and finding it has no remote control and you have to buy one separately.
Anyways, to summarize -
Every hardcore gamer should buy the PS3 and the Xbox360 for the complete gaming satisfaction for this generation of consoles.
Buy the PSP too for added fun with the PS3.

This PS3 is the last of the backward compatible units and that alone makes
it sought after more than the current models. I’ve had mine for a year
and it runs like the day I took it out of the box. Free online
is great and the interface is brilliant.

I only had this ps3 bundle for 3weeks so far, and i’m loving it. i knew this ps3 did not have the emotion engine(ps2),but it has the emulator, so i have better chances of playing ps2 games, and extra usb ports and flash drive, so i am VERY Happy. Online MG4 is insanely good. I also give many props to the ventor A.P.D. for a secure and speedy transaction.
have had for a year – no problems

Some people are getting the yellow light of death with some older models, but this one for me has worked fine. it worth the price tag because #1: it has media card slots (new ps3′s dont) #2: it can play ps1 ps2 & obviously ps3 games ( new ps3′s cant play ps2 games). just based on those 2 things its worth to buy over the new ps3′s, not to mention its accented in chrome ( new ones are matte “metal” ) BUY THIS ONE NOT A NEW ONE!!!!!!!!!
great ps3

No offense to the sender – but our PS3 was cracked upon arrival – so, we had to send it back. We did get our money back – which is nice. Unfortunately, we are in the market for another one and the prices have gone up a bit.
Real CECHE01 PS3 MGS4 bundle pack
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Saw this item tagged as “Buy New” at Amazon last week, ordered it within the hour in case it gets sold out again and surprisingly I got it in 3-business days even with their Free Super Saver Shipping deal. Just like most of us new PS3 users, I picked the up PS3 console because it is known to be the fastest loading Blu-Ray player out there in the market and it has extra features only found on the older models. Hesitated last year for not picking this particular model. Arrgh! but thank god for Amazon. Took a gamble since I almost got burned at a nearby store in my area which sells the new strip-down PS3 80GB consoles and package them with MGS4 or Motorstorm to make it look like it’s the old CECHE01 model (PS3 with Emotion PS1/PS2 emulation software with the built-in media card reader & total of 4 USB ports).
Navigation is breeze with the Sony XrossMediaBar, similar to the PSP and Sony Bravia. The built-in card reader comes in handy in viewing pictures taken from digital cameras to the living room LCD TV.
Although it’s a good product, it came with below-average A/V cables.
It didn’t come with HDMI cables and Toslink optical cables. Only came with a proprietary composite A/V cable (not even gold-plated). It’s being marketed as a blu-ray player and it doesn’t come with HDMI cables!?!?
If you have buyer’s regret for not picking this up last year, now’s the time to get this before it gets sold out! This model, the CECHE01, is currenlty the second best PS3 console that Sony released. I’ve looked online and no other major retail stores sells these new anymore.
WOW
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Now I have this bundle for about a good month now. This system is really worth it here. First off compare to the other PS3 in retail, u get just about the same thing: the 80 gb, free wifi, the PSN, blu-ray player.
However this comes with couple of features. For starters: The metal gear solid game which even I say you can get it $40-$50. The backward compatibility is worth, lets say another $50, and bam, there goes the your reason why this cost an extra $100. Plus you have the Dualshock 3 controller, which is very good given that it is rechargeable when connected to the system. (but I think the Dualshock 3 controller is being shipped with the PS3 now)Plus, it has the extra two USB’s and also the sd card reader which I found very helpful.
Now this is a brand new system so if you done your homework as I did, you know Amazon is giving you a great deal, where other sellers is trying to sell it for about $100-$150 dollars more, even the used ones are about the $500 range.
Now the reason I gave it a four stars, is because a few things-
If you have a bunch of PS2 games with your memory card, and you want to transfer you saved games, you need an adapter for it (which is $15 bucks, a one time use thing, SMH). Otherwise your going to have to start those games all over again.
The game titles are mostly the same to 360 (for example Modern Warfare, Fallout 3, GTA4, etc ) but you do have a handful amount of Exclusive titles.
To get the perfect picture on your television set, your gonna need the HDMI cable, which did not come with the bundle… but o-well you cant have everything, but it would have been nice if they had included into the bundle.
Dualshock 3 controller is good, but not as good as the dualshock 2 and I must admit, even the 360 have a better controller.
Now I have all three consoles (my wii is in my sister room) and Im gonna be really honest, I still play most of games on my 360 because that was my first “Next Gen console” and like I said earlier they both have similar games, which means most of my games were for 360. However Im starting to play more on the PS3 because of the free wifi, I mean why should I pay to play online when I can get it free on PS3.(PSN seems to doing better every update it gets) and the Graphics on the PS3 is AMAZING, when you have the HDMI cables.
So that is just my opinion on what are the pros and cons of this bundle, choose wisely.
i cant really review this
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
i cant review this item since the UPS sent it to the wrong place and the seller refused to contact me back. i had to go to amazon for a refund.
Try ebay
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I just won an ebay bid on the same item for $415!! That is really a steal since I was considering purchasing this from amazon. I saved over 100 dollars on ebay though so I really lucked out!
This model has PS2 compatibility, which I need because I don’t want a modulator and I don’t have any more inputs on my current tv/vcr setup.
Not all models having PS2 playback really upset me and Sony should have addressed that issue.
This system has a lot of features.

When deciding about what blu-ray player to buy, the Playsation 3 was an obvious choice to me because this particular version is backwards compatible with my PS1 and PS2 games. I have limited space, so the idea of retiring my Playstation 2 without losing games sounded great.
After using the Playstation 3 for a little over a year now, the console has been great. Ive never been able to enjoy a console quite like the Playstation 3.
Here are some of the things I like about it:
- This console has really become my media center. Ive enjoyed playing back (with the separate remote) a huge portion of my music library, wedding photos, and honeymoon photos, onto this thing. Using either one of the USB ports or one of many card readers to load media onto the Playstation 3 is a breeze.
- Im enjoying playing for free online – something I was accustomed to only on my PC, which is seeing age.
- The Playstation Network is easy to browse for free game demos and videos. The majority of my hard drive is full of demos right now.
- The bluetooth controller is great and is the same feel-good shape of the PS2 controller.
- Being able to play my old library of games was great. I think the backwards compatibility of the PS2 is what helped sell a lot of those consoles and give the Xbox a run for its money. To me, Sony is thanking its loyal customers by having this feature. Unlike, for example, when the Super Nintendo would not play regular Nintendo games. They could have made the cartidges a similar shape and chose not to.
I wanted both a Blu-Ray player and a gaming system to play gems like Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. The price is acceptable because I would have purchased two separate pieces of hardware and probably paid more if the technology was not already included in the PS3. Throw in a game like Metal Gear 4 and this is a solid buy.
Overpriced but almost justifyable.
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This product is a bit expensive for being over a year old. It probably should be closer to $400. I guess its worth it for the PS2 backward compatibility and Metal Gear Solid Iv being packaged with it.
I wish I would’ve known that the free pain download advertised expired in December 2008.
The system itself it great. I have all three current generation consoles and the Playstation 3 has the most potential for me to like it still in five years.
The Best Console

This console is great, metal gear is the best series and this has the backwards compatibility so i can play 1-4.
Best option for backwards compatibility
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought this version of the PS3 for the backwards compatibility. This is probably the best PS3 package to get if you do not own a ps2 and/or ps1. The PS3 has finally started getting some good exclusive games, which made the purchase worth it IMO. I would consider the price range still kind of high for a console. Hopefully Sony will lower the price on the PS3 but Sony is probably afraid of a even more losses because it cost them a lot to make the units already.
I recommend getting a longer cable for your controller if you plan to sit farther away than like 5 ft. from your console. If you use headphones like me for audio, be prepared to get a pair of headphones designed specifically to work with the PS3, which can be kind of pricey. I wish the PS3 was built to allow audio over USB and/or had some simple audio output jacks for the basic headphones. If you just use a headset for communication with a mic, then you can just use the USB for that and have the in-game audio over speakers. Also, in case anyone is curious, you can run the PS3 off your computer LCD monitor if it has HDCP enabled (check the specifications on your monitor). If your monitor has HDMI inputs, then it probably can support the PS3. Mine was DVI only, but supported HD. It was a lot cheaper to buy a HDMI to DVI cable than to invest in a new HD TV.
I can’t really speak to the whole Playstation Network vs XBox Live as I do not play multiplayer that much. I will say that the PSN is free which is cool.
Happy Customer

I bought this system so that I could have a Blu-Ray player as well has the option to play not only PS3 games but PS2 games. I find myself more interested in playing PS2 games rather then the shooting and racing games that I only seem to find for PS3. The Blu-Ray quality is amazing and I highly recommend this product.
